Helensville.— l7 th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Henry Willoughby Joyce, age fifty-seven, height 6 ft., insurance agent, native of England, medium build, swarthy complexion, grey hair, light-blue eyes, large nose, three dots on right forearm, scar on left forefinger ; dressed in a grey suit and carries a walking-stick ; plausible manner. Accused obtained £lO from Charles Herbert Fastier, manager, Bank of New Zealand, Helensville, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount on the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland. Queen Street (Auckland). — ultimo, on warrant for theft of a ladies’ gold ring, set with an oval diamond ; a ladies’ gold ring, set with a diamond slightly chipped ; a ladies’ heavy gold ring, set with a cluster of diamonds in platinum ; and a ladies’ gold ring, set with three diamonds in slightly cross setting, total value £lO6, the property of Maud Ashman, housekeeper, Harbour View Road, Birkenhead, J. R. Elder, age about thirty-two, height .about 5 ft. 11 in., traveller, medium build, fair complexion, fair hair brushed back, blue eyes, gold inysevera-l' sido- fAth, noticeable /lump on back of neck below harf yusually pressed yf a browif suit and light hat. Accused, who said he was a traveller ftfr Pever’s perfumes, became friendly with complainant’s daughter and borrowed the rings. After wearing them for a few days in her company he disappeared. Accused stole the money from a chest-of-drawers in his mother’s residence.

Auckland. —18th January last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying £2l 15s. arrears due on a maintenance order, Sydney Wright, alias Wrightson, age forty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, hazel eyes, prominent ears; cross, ballet-girl, and dagger on right forearm ; woman’s bust, “ Esther,” clasped hands, flowers, and star on left forearm. Auckland. —27th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Robert Irwin Meaclem, alias Meaclean, alias Meaehlem, alias Rogers, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft* 9f- in., mechanic, native of New Zealand, stout build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes ; clasped hands and flowers on right forearm ; woman, Maltese cross, ship, flag, lifebuoy, heart, “ M.C.,” and anchor on left forearm ; dressed in a brown suit, grey-felt hat, and tan boots. Accused obtained thirty cases of benzine and two cases of Mobiloil, value £62 11s., from the Vacuum Oil Proprietary Company, Queen Street, by falsely representing himself to be Robert Meaclem, builder, Mokoia Road, Birkenhead. Gisborne. — ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, James Beattie, age about twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 5 in., motor-driver, native of Scotland, slight build, ruddy complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, sharp features ; usually dressed in a grey or brown suit and soft-felt hat. Accused obtained £95 for a Ford motor-car from Robert James Kerrige, motorgarage manager, Peel Street, by falsely representing that the car was his own and free from encumbrances, whereas it was held under mortgage CySamuel McKee, Tokomaru Bay. ‘L f Z<6y

Manaia.—,loth ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, Charles Crawford, alias Frank Sinclair, alias Frank Connell, alias Francis Fred Connell, age about forty-three, height 5 ft. 8 in., cook and hotel porter, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion, grey hair, hazel eyes ; dressed in a grey sport’s suit and grey bat ; talkative ; smart appearance. Accused forged the name “ Richard C. Malcolm ” to a cheque for £6 ss. on the Bank of New Zealand, Opunake, and uttered it to Rene Leon Avery, licensee, Manaia Hotel, (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 641.) i /

Wanganui.—On or about the 15th ultimo, for theft of a pair of boots, and a pair of field-glasses (recovered), value £lB 2s. 6d., the property of Bertie William Willis, booksellers, Wicksted Place(l) Man (name unknown), age about thirty, height 5 ft. sin., dark hair and complexion dressed in a blue suit: and (2) Man (name unknown), age about fifty, height 5 ft. 7 in., fresh complexion, grey hair, stooped shoulders ; dressed in a grey suit, and wears a returned soldier’s badge. The boots were stolen from complainant’s office and sold in a second-hand shop. No warrant.

Masterton. 27th January last, that she may be served with a witness summons in ' complaint against Jack Albert Himona for maintenance of her child, an’ inmate of Wellington Receiving Home, Myrtle Annie Ida Himona, age twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 3 in., domestic, native of Australia, slight build, fair complexion, dark long hair, blue eyes, no upper teeth, scar on top of head ; dressed in a choco-late-coloured overcoat and high-heeled shoes.

Wellington.22nd October last, that he may be located and induced to pay £B, which was advanced to him by the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London in April, 1920, Charles William Bryham, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 7 in., fireman, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, lighthouse and “ Nov. 21st, 1919.” on right forearm. Christchurch. — 10th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a watch, chain, and pendant (recovered), value £lO, from the dwelling of Edward Albert Wenmoth, clerk, 13 Woodbridge Street, Beckenham, E. A. Williams (name probably fictitious), age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, strong build, ruddy complexion, brown hair ; dressed in a dark-blue suit and light-felt hat; quiet manner. The articles were recovered in J. Barker’s pawnshop in Worcester Street.

Timartt. 6th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Frances Lillian Sapwell, Arthur Street, Albert Sapwell, age thirty -three, height about 5 ft. 9 in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, upper teeth artificial.
