The Maori Council of the Matatua Maori District has made by-laws under the Maori Councils Act, 1900, and the Health Act, 1920, in which provisions are made, inter alia, — For the notification of deaths to the nearest Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, and for the burial of human corpses within a specified time : Prescribing penalties for persons committing nuisances ; Regulating all privies ; Governing tangis, huis, and gatherings from a sanitary standpoint; and Prohibiting hawking without a license, drunkenness, smoking by youths, and gambling. , (See New Zealand Gazette, 1922, page 274.)
