June and December last, on warrant for false pretences, Charles Gerard, alias Charles James Gerard, alias Gerad, age about thirty-seven, height about 5 ft. 7 in., architect and mental healer, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, brown eyes, faint scars under jaws ; usually dressed in a brownish or grey suit and brown soft or light-grey felt hat. Accused, who stated that he was an architect, arrived from Australia on the 4th May last, and took rooms at 360 Lambton Quay, where he practised mental healing. He instituted a system of advertising for the acquaintance of women with a view to matrimony, and by falsely representing himself to be single and by promising to marry her on the 6th instant, he obtained £2O from Dorothy Frances Bakewell, Khandallah, for which offence the above warrant has been issued. He is suspected of having taken away tablecloths and table-centres, &c., the property of Miss Bakewell, which he was given possession of pending the marriage. He also obtained money from other women by falsely representing that he would give them six months training in toilet-work. He is said to have received correspondence from Australia in the name of Lestrange or Lestrang. His wife may be accompanying him. There are several charges pending. J^
