PROPERTY STOLEN.
Helensville.— JAMES FRANCIS FERGUSON LAMBERT’S motor-car stolen : The number of the engine is “ C 236683 ” on left side on a plate over inlet water-pipe. (See Police Gazette, 1921, page 551.)
Auckland. —On the 3rd instant the dwelling of GEORGE DIXON, 63 Mount Eden Road, was broken into, and the following stolen therefrom : A sky-blue-voile blouse, two daisies in pink silk with black centres worked on front; and a white-silk blouse with three heliotrope daisies worked on front at each side : value, £2. Identifiable.
Auckland. the 13th and 23rd August last, from a room at King’s Court Private Hotel, the property of LIONEL FRUHAUF, dentist, three pairs of dental forceps; a pair of bending pliers, maker S. S. White ; a pair of upper root-forceps, makers Ash and Son ; and an Automatic mallet : total value, £4. Identification doubtful.
Hamilton. EDWARD JAMES MEARS’S dwelling broken into : A further description of the stolen watch has been supplied by the Hamilton police, as follows : Geneva make, No. 189760, • “ 861.6 ” scratched on inside of case. (See Police Gazette, 1921, page 55]/.) , J
Hamilton. —3rd ultimo, from the back of Almadale Boardinghouse, ‘Victoria Street, the property of CHARLES EDWARD CLARKSON, farmer, a gentlemen’s free-wheel B.S.A. bicycle, No. 218484, black-enamelled with green stripes, 24 in. frame, straight handles with black grips, backpedalling brake, spokes broken in back wheel, odd rubber pedals value, £2O. Mananui. —6th ultimo, from a hut, the property of ARCHIBALD McLEAN, bridge-builder, Ngapuke, a wallet, containing discharge from 3rd Battalion, N.Z. Rifle Brigade, No. 25/131, and £135, made up as follows : Eleven £lO notes, two of which are numbered 092382 and 092383 ; one £5 note ; and twenty £1 notes, one of which ' has been torn and repaired. Suspicion is attached to John Weller, age thirtyfive, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes ; usually dressed in a light-grey suit and soft-felt hat. He has been interviewed by the Mananui police, but no evidence resulted.
Opunake. —26th August last, from a hut, the property of THOMAS SHEGADEEN, sawmill hand, Te Kiri, a 15 ct. gold curb watch-chain ; a gold medal with two wrestlers on it; and a 9 ct. gold oval medal, with “ First prize, T. Shegadeen,” engraved on it: total value, £2O 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Walter Grace, age about twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, prominent nose ; dressed in a blue suit and wide-brimmed hat, and has with him a portmanteau with “ McKenzie ” on it. He was interviewed by the Wellington police, but no evidence resulted.
Whangamomona. 6th ultimo, from a bedroom in the Whangamomona Hotel, the property of ETHEL LOGAN, housemaid, an 18 ct. gold fine ring, set slightly crosswise with three diamonds in claw setting; value, £l6. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Mrs. Pearl Mischewski, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 6 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, stout build, fresh complexion, fair hair, full round face, flat nose. . She lias been interviewed by the Stratford police, but no evidence resulted.
Hastings.— THOMAS SMITH’S bicycle stolen : The number of the ladies’ bicycle is “ 26330,” not “ A 63448.” (See Police Gazette, 1921, page 307.)
Wellington. —l7th August last, from a railway-carriage at Kaiwarra, the property of HENRY JAMES MILLMAN, Lower Hutt, a brief-bag, containing a Bengal razor with “ H.M. ’ scratched on handle ; total value, £3 15s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Woman (name unknown), age about fifty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in. ; dressed in a black dress and hat.
Wellington. —27th August last, from a tram-car, the property of CEDRIC GLOVER ALLEN, traveller, a leather suit-case, containing a ladies’ jade-green evening-dress, black rosette on waist, covered with white net; a pair of blacksatin court-shoes, size 4 ; a white nightdress ; a suit of fawnpoplin pyjamas ; a ladies’ scarf ; a pair of black-silk stockings ; and a hair-brush and comb : total value, £l6. Identifiable.
Wellington.— 9th August last, from a motor-car in Cuba Street, the property of Dr. W. J. H. HISLOP, 190 Willis Street, a brown-leather square handbag with hasp on each end, detachable linen lining with pockets to hold small flasks, containing a small metal case with all-glass hypodermic syringe; three small red cartons containing tubes of hypodermic tablets ; a pair of rubber gloves ; a metal case, containing several rubber catheters ; a bottle containing 4 oz. chloroform ; two cartons containing small flasks ; a small bottle of lysol; a three-cornered bottle of pink tablets of double cyanide; a cardboard box; two or three towels, probably lias “ Hislop Surgery ” marked on them; and various bottles containing drugs : total value, £3. Identifiable.
Wellington. —3lst August last, from a dressing-room in the Bank of New Zealand, Lambton Quay, the property of IVY LILIAN WATERS, typiste ; a reddish-morocco-leather case, containing a ladies’ gold open-face watch with chased back ; a long gold chain with small links, several of which have been repaired ; and £3 : total value, £ls. Identifiable except money.
Wellington.- 22nd ultimo, from the counter in the shop of JOHN STODDART, chemist, 108 Constable Street, a V.P.K. Kodak camera, No. N 139524 4; value, £2 10s. Identifiable. *
Wellington. 6th ultimo, from Willis Street, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department), a gentlemen’s free-wheel Hercules bicycle, No. 178, handles painted black, rubber pedals, Serang tires; value, £B. Identifiable.
Wellington. -19th August last, from a motor-car in Mercer Street, the property of ROBERT JONES, Lower Hutt, a Willard battery, No. 4904144, 5.L.R.3 type, “ E. 8.” or “ E.C.” on top of terminals ; value, £ls.- Identifiable.
Wellington.— HAßT AND PENNINGTON’S handbag, &c., stolen : ' The suspect, Gordon Basil McElwain, alias Mellwain, has been interviewed by the Auckland police, but no evidence resulted. (See Police Gazette, 1921, page 595.)
Taranaki Street (Wellington). — 12th ultimo, from a bedroom in the Hotel Bristol, Ghuznee Street, the property of JAMES ROLAND SMITH, builder, Christchurch, a gentlemen’s dark heavy Scotch-tweed double-breasted overcoat, may have “ Begg and Co., Christchurch,”, on tab ; value, £ls. Identifiable.
Coalgate. ROßEßT CURRIE’S money stolen: The suspect, Harry Britcliff, has been arrested for the offence by the Christchurch police. (See Police Gazette, 1921, page 595.)
Christchurch.— August last, from a workshop at 52 Telford Street, the property of ALEXANDER STANLEY BLACKWOOD, blacksmith, a gentlemen’s silver lever watch, makers Bower and Ferguson, Timaru, “ A. S. Blackwood ” and “ F. Patterson ” on inside of back case, “ A. S. Blackwood ” on scroll on front case ; a rolled gold watch-chain ; and a greenstone ring : total value, £8 18s. Identifiable.
Christchurch. — 13th August last, from a bedroom at the Windsor Hotel, the property of WILLIAM WELSH, labourer, a gold military medal, with “ No. 46818, W. Welsh,” on it ; and a tennis-shirt with tussore-silk front: total value, £2 6s. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Joyce, age about eighteen, height 5 ft., strong build, dark complexion, hair, and eyes ; dressed in a dark brown suit.
Cromwell. —7th ultimo, from a bathroom in McDonald’s Hotel, the property of MRS. H. SANSON, Waipiata, an 18 ct. gold engagement-ring, set with four diamonds in each of four squares, and seven rubies forming a cross in oblong claw setting ; value, £2O. Identifiable.
Dunedin. On or about the 20th ultimo, from a tram-car at Mornington, the • property of the DUNEDIN CITY COUNCIL, a six-volt Columbia battery, 10 in. by 7 in. by 7 in., with two iron handles set in wooden frame, lead plate on top with “ S.E. 315 A.Z. 398 ” on it, “ S.E. 315 A.Z.G. 162 ” on one side, “3 ” painted on one end ; value, £ll. Identifiable. The battery would be suitable for a motor-car or for lighting a small building. Inquiries are to be made at all places where such batteries are recharged,
Winton. — 17th ultimo, the property of FRANK TILLEY, watchmaker, a ladies’ black-enamelled Woods Special bicycle, straight handle-bars with black-celluloid grips, new dressguard, rubber pedals ; value, £5 10s. Identifiable.
