PERSONS WANTED.

Whangarei. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for theft of a horse (recovered), value £B, the property of Henare Mahunga, farmer, Opahi, Toe Pere, alias Pera Royal, age thirty, height 5 ft. 8 j in., labourer, native of New Zealand ; strong build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, scar on left temple ; dressed in riding-breeches and puttees, brown coat, and black-felt hat; sullen manner ; fond of drink. Accused stole the horse from complainant’s paddock and sold it for £2. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 527.) '

Whangarei. —4th October last, on two warrants for committing a grossly indecent act, and obscene language, Carl Tanner, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 9 in., joiner and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, lightbrown hair, blue eyes, large mouth, thick lips ; dressed in a grey-tweed suit, fawn overcoat, and black soft-felt hat smart appearance. Accused appeared on the 26th October last in answer to summonses, but failed to appear at an adjourned hearing on the 9th November. / ’

Auckland. 4th instant, for theft of two rings (recovered), value £57 10s., the property of Ella Pope, 5 Gordon Road, Mount Eden, Mrs. L. Smith, alias Williams, age about thirtyfive, height about 5 ft- 4 in., washerwoman, strong build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes ; dressed in a tussore-silk costume or dark skirt and white blouse. Accused was employed by complainant when she stole the rings and pawned them. There are other charges pending. No warrant. •

Auckland. ultimo, that he may be induced to pay £197 'Bs. Auckland. — ultimo, on warrant for bigamy, Francis Arthur Blackett, alias Matthew George Seager, alias James Arthur Blackett, age about forty-four, height 5 ft. 8J in., farm labourer and barman, native of England, good build, dark complexion, dark hair going grey, grey eyes, dark moustache, right arm has been broken, right big toe deformed, slightly stooped; dressed in a grey suit and soft-felt hat; surly manner ; fond of drink. Accused married Bertha Leila Hitchings at Woolston on the Ist June, 1909, and on the 4th December, 1916, under the assumed name Seager, he went through the form of marriage with Lillian Jane Sutherland, his wife being then alive. Auckland.— 29th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Mary Ann Ross, Birkdale, Angus Ross, age sixty-three, height 5 ft. 10 in., carpenter, thin build, florid complexion, grey hair. Te Awamutu. 29th ultimo, on warrant for obtaining credit by fraud, J. Vernon (name probably fictitious), age about forty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and mill hand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, several days’ growth of beard ; dressed in a dark suit, felt hat, and brown boots. Accused employed Thomas Davis, taxi-proprietor, to drive him from Wharepahunga to Tirau, and in payment of his fare he tendered a valueless cheque.

Raetihi. —7th November last, on warrant for theft of a sack of chaff (recovered), the property of Robert Hilton Wilkie, farmer, Para para Road, Oreore, Harry Wallen, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer and blacksmith, native of New Zealand, medium build, pale complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes ; usually dressed in a brown or blue suit; quarrelsome when under the influence of liquonf /See Police Gazette, 1920, page 732.) £ 4- U<4 /

Hawera. — November last, on two warrants of commitment to Hawera Police-gaol for forty-eight hours each in default of paying £2 (£1 on each) fine and costs for breaches of his prohibition order, 'William McGarvie, age forty, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair, grey or blue eyes. Wanganui. —29th ultimo, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation, Gerald Thomas Silk, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on left hand, portion of left little finger missing, scar on right shin, left ankle deformed. He has not reported to the Probation Officer, Ernest Ching, Police-gaoler, Wanganui, since the 21st ultimo, and his arrest is desired. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 616. /6 •$ ■J 7/

Palmerston North. 3rd instant, on warrant for false pretences, A. J. Burling, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, florid complexion, light-brown hair ; dressed in a brown suit, black soft hat, and tan boots ; lame on one leg. He may be accompanied by his wife, age twenty-three, height about 6 ft., fair complexion. Accused obtained £ls from Alfred Elvery Pond, livery-stable keeper, 11 Bourke Street, by falsely representing that he was employed by Robert Burling, Masterton.

Palmerston North. — ultimo, on warrant for attempted false pretences, Vincent Joseph Leathern, age about forty-seven, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer and taxi-driver, native of New Zealand, stout build, ruddy complexion, black hair turning grey, blue-grey eyes, scar on right cheek and on left temple ; dressed in green-gabardine trousers, grey coat, and brown soft-felt hat; talkative ; fond of drink ; frequents race meetings. Whilst at Awapuni races accused attempted to obtain £lO from John Moore Johnston, secretary, Manawatu Racing Club, by means of a valueless cheque, which complainant retained. Eeatherston. —lst November last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £7 10s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife and two children, Thomas Payne, age forty-eight, height 5 ft. . 6 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, curly dark-brown hair, blue eyes, small scar on forehead and on rigjit cheek, mole on left breast, second left toe crooked ; fond of drink ; plausible. Wellington. 7th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Rubina Margaret Goodman, 186 Aro Street, George Goodman, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., steward, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, black hair and eyes ; dressed dark-brown suit and grey cap ; quarter-caste-Maori appearance.

Wellington.— 27th November last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying 13s. fine and costs for drunkenness, William Anderson, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 5 in., bootmaker, native of Scotland, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, scar on left side of chin. ■/ .•

Wellington. —2nd ultimo, that he may be returned to Weraroa Industrial School, William Alexander Scorringe, age thirteen, height about 5 ft., native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, dark hair, brown eyes ; dressed in green short trousers, brown jersey, black stockings with red band at tops, anHblack sandals.

Wellington. llth November last, for escaping from Sunnyside Mental Hospital in 1913, Herbert Rinsford Manchester, alias Leather Manchester, alias Bert Rathfield, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, dark complexion, dark - brown hair, grey eyes ; shabbily dressed ; impediment in speech. He is a dangerous criminal lunatic and was seen in Wellington in November last. His return to the mental hospital is desired, (See Police Gazette, 1903,pape45A

Wellington. —Bth October last, that he may be located and the District Repatriation Officer, Wellington, advised, Francis Joseph Hall, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes. He left Wellington for England in July last, but expressed his intention to return to New Zealand. (P. 20/1531.)

Wellington. 6th October last, that he may be located and the District Repatriation Officer, Wellington, advised, Arthur Griff en, age thirty-two, height sft. 7Jin., waiter, native of England, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. He may be identical with A. Griffen who deserted from the s.s. “ Manuka ” at Sydney in December, 1919. (P.20/1497.)

Wellington. On or about the 6th September last, for theft of ten Government debentures at £5 each (recovered), the property of Agnes Stewart Boyd, 14 Fairview Crescent, Kelburn, Man (name unknown), age about thirty-eight, height about 5 ft. 4 in., medium build ; well dressed. Accused stole the debentures, and sold them at the Central Auction-mart to William Ball, fishmonger, Brooklyn. No warrant.

Nelson. —On or about the 15th" November last, on warrant for false pretences, Robert P. White, age about forty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., bushman and miner, strong build, dark curly hair turning grey, blue eyes, full round face, cleanshaved ; swaggering gait ; dressed in brown-check suit, black cotton shirt, and soft-felt hat. Accused obtained money and board from James Christie, boardinghouse-keeper, Tophouse, Nelson, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount on the National Bank of New Zealand, Nelson. Westport.— -4th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Westport Prison for one month in default of paying £9 12s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his son, John Duthie, an inmate of an industrial school, Benjamin Duthie, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved ; dressed- in a brown suit and light-felt hat ; fond of drink. Christchurch. —19th October last, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for one month in default of paying £l3 14s. 6d. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, Charles Henry Leigh Walters, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 11 in., land agent and farm labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, ruddy complexion, brown hair, grey eyes ; usually dressed in a navyblue suit and brown soft-felt hat; fond of horse-racing and gambling. Christchurch. —22nd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 fine' and costs for a breach of the City By-laws, Edgar Somerset, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 10 in., farmer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes ; usually dressed in a dark-grey sac suit and soft-felt hat. /1/V

Lyttelton. 27th June last, that she may be located and the Registrar of Births, Lyttelton, advised, Blanche Read, age about twenty-three, height 5 ft. 1 in., domestic, slight build, large mouth, gold front teeth. On the 12th June last, at Nurse Olsen’s home, the above-named gave birth to a male child, and she has failed to register the birth. She may be accompanied by John Read, referred to in following paragraph.

Lyttelton. 27th June last, that he may be located and the Registrar of Births, Lyttelton, advised, John Read, age about thirty-three, height 5 ft. 10 in., supposed traveller, native of New Zealand, thin build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, clean-shaved ; • dressed in a navy-blue suit; delicate appearance. He may be accompanied by Blanche Read, referred to in preceding paragraph, who is supposed to be his wife.

(J amaru. —22nd September last, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for two months in default of paying £8 2s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, John Patrick O’Connor, age twenty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, large front teeth ; usually dressed in a brown suit, and wears hat on sid&of head. /

Dunedin. —15th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value £5, the property of Ernest Albert Borrow, 742 George Street, J. Francis (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-two, height about 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, fresh complexion, black hair ; dressed in a dark-brown suit, blackfelt hat, and tan boots ; smart appearance. Accused stole the bicycle from St. Andrew Street, and sold it at Auston’s second-hand shop for £1 10s.

Dunedin. 7th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Rose Zetland Blyth, 43 Selwyn Street, and eleven children, Stephen Rintoul Blyth, age fifty-five, height 5 ft. 3 in., cook, native of Scotland, strong build, fair hair, bluegrey eyes, slight squint in left eye, clean-shaved, bow legs. His photograph is filed in the Superintendent’s Office, Dunedin.

Dunedin. November last, on warrant of commitment to military custody for fourteen days in default of paying £1 10s. fine and costs for failing to attend drill, Russell Stuart Reid, age about eighteen, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, pale complexion, light-brown hair, thin features.
