PERSONS WANTED.

Kaitaia. — 16th February last, that a distress warrant for £4 Os. 6d. fine and costs for insulting language may be executed upon his effects, Sid Hapakuku, age twentyfive, height 5 ft. 9 in., bushman, Maori, strong build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes; .speaks good English ; quarrelsome when under the influence of drink. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 163.)

Auckland. —l2th instant. A bench warrant has been issued for the arrest for rape of Albert or Bert Brown, alias Williams, alias Looney, alias Arthur James, alias Henry Edwards, alias Alfred Harris, alias Alfred Jordan, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 10in., canvasser, native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, long brown hair brushed back, blue eyes, clean-shaved, scar on left cheek near eye ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and black soft-felt hat ; fond of drink, and consorts with thieves and undesirables ; frequents billiard-saloons. Accused, who was under recognizance to appear at the Supreme Court, Auckland, on the 12th instant to plead to an indictment for rape, did not appear. He may attempt to leave this Dominion, and the assistance of passport officers should be solicited with a view to his arrest. His photograph appears hereunder.

Auckland. —6th instant, for theft of an overcoat (recovered), value £3, the property of John Fallon, James Cook (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-three, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair ; dressed in grey knickerbockers, dark-tweed coat, slouch hat, and long black stockings with green tops. Accused stole the coat from a bedroom at 148 Hobson Street, and sold it to Emanuel Kissin, pawnbroker, for 6s. The photograph of Henry John James on page 43 of Photographs, 1918, has been identified as that of accused. No warrant.

Pukekohe. — llth April last, on warrant for theft of a partially us d cheque-book on the Commercial Bank of Aus tralia, Auckland, No. A174901X to A174930X, value 45., the property of Norman Innes Kemp, farmer, Richardson Road, Mount Roskill, Ngakuru Tuaru Pukeroa, alias Te Teke, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., native of New Zealand, medium build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, scar on left eyelid ; dressed in a grey suit, darkbrown hard hat, and a black overcoat, and wears a returned soldier’s badge. Accused stole the cheque-book from a hamper on Papakura Railway-platform. (See Police Gazette, 1911, page 228 ; 1915, page 466 ; 1919, page 458 ; and Photographs, 1911, page 36.)

Huntly. breaking a pane of glass in Rotowaro Railway-station, William Denton, age about twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 3in., labourer and trucker, native of New Zealand, thin build, bad front teeth, clean-shaved ; dressed in a dark suit, grey soft felt hat, and military overcoat; jockey appearance.

Taumakunui. — W. J. McLennan, false pretences: It has been ascertained by the Palmerston North police that the cheque used by accused to obtain the money was from a cheque book, No. 8594181 to 8594300, which was lost or stolen from the Tane Hemp Company’s Office, Rangitane, on or about the 10th April last. Accused was seen with John Ormond, referred to in Police Gazette, 1918, page 670, in the vicinity of the office on above date, and was then going by the name of Crawford. They are raoecourse frequenters and guessers. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 442.)

Tinui.— sth instant, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address may be instituted against him, Hans Larsen, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 8 in., seaman and labourer, native of Norway, strong build, fresh complexion, red hair, grey eyes, woman on ball, and “ H.L.” on right forearm.

Wellington. —lßth February last, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation, Wilfred John Barber, alias John Barber, age twenty - two, height 5 ft. 5 in., fireman, native of Tasmania, fresh complexion, fair hair, brown eyes. His arrest is desired. (See Police Gazette, 1919, page 456.)

Wellington. —24th April last, that he may be compelled to maintain his wife, Mary Hannah Swanson, Westport, Gustave Adolph Swanson, age about thirty-six, height about 5 ft. 10 in., seaman, native of Sweden, medium build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved or may have fair moustache, palm-tree, snake, and rose on one wrist ; other tattoo-marks on arms ; scar below left knee; slightly stooped; speaks good English. He may endeavour to join a ship.

Westport.— 4th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Margaret Ellen Petheruk, Denniston, is the mother, Janies Herbert Roberts, age fifty-seven, height 6 ft., carpenter, native of England, slight build, sallow complexion, dark hair, brown eyes; fond of drink, and speaks peculiarly when under its influence. Arrears to 15th June last, £4.

Christchurch.— 9th instant, that he may be compelled to pay £lB 16s. arrears due for the maintenance of his daughter, an ex-inmate of Wellington Receiving Home, Francis Burkitt, age about sixty-five, height 5 ft. sin., labourer, medium build, fresh complexion, full grey beard clipped short.

Christchurch. —2nd instant, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 6s. balance of fine and costs for wilful damage, Victor Plihon, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 4 in,, diver, native of

France, medium build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes, “E.V.1.A.” on right forearm. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 395.)

Ashburton.— l4th June last, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Jean Scott, Saunders Road, Allenton, John Robert Scott, age thirty-one, height sft. 11 in., driver, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes ; dressed in a brown suit and black soft-felt hat. He may be living with Sarah Prentice, alias Scott, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 3 in., stout build, fair hair ; an ex-barmaid.

Port Chalmers. —7th instant, that he may be compelled to pay £52 10s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his child, William Henry Martin, age forty, height 5 ft. 8 in., fisherman, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes; anchor, heart, and “T.M.” on right forearm; anchor on left forearm.

Dunedin. sth instant, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £2 3s. fine and costs for attempting to leave New Zealand without having obtained a permit, Alexander Edward Smith, age thirty-four, height 6 ft., ship’s carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, blue-grey eyes, clean-shaved, rose and giraffe on right forearm, hands across the sea and ship on feft forearm, scars on shins ; dressed in a dark-tweed suit, light cap, and fawn waterproof coat; fond of drink.
