Devonport.- instant, that he may be compelled to pay £B2 ss. 4d. arrears due for the maintenance of his two sons, Alexander and Cyril McDonald, inmates of St. Mary’s Industrial School, Alexander McDonald, age forty-five, height about 5 ft. 5 in., painter, native of Scotland, medium build, brown hair turning grey, grey eyes, long note, light-brown moustache, thin features ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and soft-felt hat ; fond of drink.

Auckland. 26th September last, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation, Hughriah Edward Cornelius Glover, age twenty, height 5 ft. 6Jin., butcher, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, liglit-brown hair, blue eyes; horse’s head, shoe, and flowers on left forearm ; flowers and “ Esma” on

Thames. — 29th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences. Emil Bernhart Johansen, age about forty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, supposed native of Sweden, strong build, sallow complexion, brown hair and eyes, heavy moustache ; dressed in a brown-tweed suit and grey cap ; slovenly appearance. He mav be in possession of a certificate of registration, No. 119/2. Accused obtained £8 from Alfred Berridge, storekeeper, Ngatta, by falsely representing that Allan D uglas, farmer, for whom he had been working, owed him that amount, and on whom he gave an order to the

storekeeper. He may have with him a seven- or eight-year old chestnut horse with white face, about 14 hands, hog mane and tail, rope-mark on neck ; and a nearly new saddle and bridle, which he is suspected of stealing from Charles Kendail, Waitakaruru.

Gisborne. —l4th instant, that she may be compelled to pay arrears of maintenance due for the support of her son, an inmate of Weraroa Industrial Sohool, Elizabeth Priston, alias Mrs. Rafter, age about thirty-eight, height 5 ft., domestic, stout build, dark hair, prominent* eyes, scar on one leg ; dressed in a light gaberdine costume.

Inglewood. —l3th instant, on warrant for false pretences, Jack Austin, age twenty-three, height about 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of Scotland, strong build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, clean-shaved ; dressed in a darkbrown suit and dark cap ; speaks slowly. Accused was negotiating with Mrs. Lacey to buy her farm, and before the transaction was completed he sold three of her cattle to Harold Henry Olson, farmer, Egmont, for £36. He was accompanied by two young men in a motor-car.

Waipukurau. —2oth instant, that she may be compelled to maintain her daughter, an inmate of Wellington Receiving Home, Jessie Pilcher, age twenty-three, domestio, native of New Zealand, medium build, pale oomplexion, fair hair, grey eyes ; usually dressed in a blue dress and red hat.

Takapau. — 6th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Napier Prison for two months in default of paying £l9 Is. 2d. balance of fine and costs for supplying female Maoris with liquor, John Ryan Coughlan, age about thirty-three, height about 5 ft. 7 in., roadman, native of New Zealand, stout build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, cleanshaved ; fond of drink. Accused obtained carpenters’ tools (recovered), value £8 165., from Richard Alfred Wakelin, of the Stewart Timber, Glass, and Hardware Company (Limited),

Courtenay Place, by falsely representing by telephone that he was C. Smith, Masterton, and requested that Charles Bernard Allen be supplied with the tools, and the price charg* d to Mr. Smith. Accused obtained a “ D.1.C.” brand trenchcoat, value £7 17s. 6d., from David Wil.-on, of the Drapery and General Importing Company (Limited), by falsely representing by telephone that he was G. Hume, of Featherston, and that his motor-driver would call for the coat. He is identical with George Alison, referred to in Police Gazette, 1919, page 632, and preceding paragraph.

Blenheim. 2lst ultimo, that summonses for perjury and wilful damage to a motor-car may be served upon him, Clarence Day, age twenty, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, full face ; usually dressed in a grey-tweed suit and soft-felt hat ; boyish appearance ; fond of drink.

Christchurch. —Between the 2nd and 6th instant, for theft of a gentlemen’s overcoat (recovered), value £l2, the property of George McDonald, licensee, Royal Hotel, Oxford Terrace, A. Yates (name probably fictitious), age twentyfour, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, medium build, sallow complexion, fair hair; dressed in light-coloured trousers, dark sac coat and vest, and fawn soft-felt hat. Accused sold the coat for £1 to David Bell, second-hand dealer. No Warrant.

Christchurch.— 3lst ultimo, on warrant for making a false declaration for the purpose of procuring a Registrar’s certificate under the Marriage Act, John Cockerell, age twenty-six, height sft. Bin., cook, good build, pale complexion, black hair, dark eyes, i-lightly large Roman nose, scars on fingers of one hand which have been injured ; broad features ; Jewish appearance.

Christchurch.— 24th September, 1917, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for seven days in default of paying £2 10s. fine and ocsts for a breach of his prohibition order, Patrick O’Connor, alias Sher, age sixty-six, height 5 ft. 6J in., labourer, native of Ireland, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair turning grey, blue eyes.
