Maungaturoto. —l3fcb August last, on warrant for false pretences, George Benfell, age fifty-five, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark hair and complexion, black whiskers. Accused obtained board and lodgings and goods, value £2 10s. 4d., from Annie Wilson, storekeeper, Haurau, by falsely representing that he was going to work on the railway-construction works.

Auckland.— 2lst instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Edmund Carmichael Dinnin, age sixty, height sft. 6 in., labourer and miner, native of New Zealand, thin build, sallow complexion, fair hair, grey eyes, sharp features. His photograph is filed in the Superintendent’s Office. Complainant, Lucy Dinnin, 33 Newton Road.

Auckland. 23rd instant, that a summons for being engaged on the ship “ Hauto ” without being licensed by a “competent authority ” may be served upon him, Otto Fossum, p.ge twenty-eight, height 5 ft. in., seaman, native of Norway, stout build; woman on left arm; cross, anchor, and “ 0.F.” on left hand; “ 0.E.F.” in wreath on right arm; Faith, Hope, and Charity on right forearm; sear on spine and on right fore and middle fingers. Cunningham, age about forty-three, height 5 ft. 6in., farmer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair hair and complexion, upper front teeth missing; usually dressed in riding-breeches and leggings and soft-felt hat; talkative, and expectorates freely. Accused sold the cow at Pirongia to a man named Prentice.

Gisborne.— 2nd instant, that a summons to appear as a witness in case Police v. Caulton, breaches of the Licensing Act, may be served upon him, James Donovan, age about eighteen, height about 5 ft. 5 in., labourer and bushman, native of New Zealand, slight build, curly fair hair, long nose, thin face, growth on neck ; dressed in a grey knickerbockor suit or a grey suit with long trousers.

Strateord, —24th instant, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address may be instituted against him, Henry Hugh Dalgliesh Knight, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 7 in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, slight build fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, brown moustache.

Haw era. —l7th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, John Ryan (mother, Ellen Margaret Ryan), Stanley Bayly, age forty, height 5 ft. 8 in., farm labourer and drover, native of New Zealand, slight build, pale complexion, brown hair and eyes ; right arm has been injured, scar on right palm and on top of head; quiet manner; respectable appearance. Hastings. —llth June last, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address may be instituted against him, A. J. P. Linehan, age seventeen, height about 5 ft. 5 in., station hand, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, grey eyes; usually dressed in a navy-blue suit; sullen disposition.

Wellington. —Bth instant, on warrant for false pretences, Roy Frost, age about twenty-two, height about 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in brown knickerbockers, puttees, dark coat, and black soft-felt bat. Accused obtained the sum of £1 10s. from Henry Horace Dunn, People’s Palace, Cuba Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £3, which he tendered in payment of £1 10s. for board and lodging, receiving £1 10s. change.

Taranaki Street (Wellington).— On or about the 31st July last, on warrant for theft of carpenter’s tools (recovered), value £3, the property of Charles Butter Nixon, 5 Queen Street, Albert William Murray, alias Wallace, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 9f in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on upper lip, anchor over soroll, emblem and “ H.C.” on right forearm, “M” in heart and flags on left forearm ; usually neatly dressed in a blue suit; blind in left eye ; ankles have been injured. During complainant’s absence on active servioe the accused pawned the artioles and sold the ticket. He will probably be found living with complainant’s wife, Maria Jane Nixon. Edwards, age forty, height 5 ft. 10 in., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, decayed front upper teeth; dressed in a brown-tweed suit and soft-felt hat. Accused employed Hugh Robert Davidson, taxidriver, to drive himself and a woman to and from Timaru and to and from Rangiora, and tendered in payment of fares a valueless cheque for £ls on the National Bank of New Zealand, Timaru, receiving £1 in change. The photograph of William Henry Edwards, alias Wilson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1917, page 382, and Photographs, 1914, page 44, has been identified as that of accused.

Christchurch.— 7th November last, for failing to comply with the terms of her release upon probationary license, Frances Curry, age sixty-one, height 5 ft. 2 in., domestic, native of England, medium build, sallow complexion, grey hair and eyes, right thumb has been dislocated. Her license has been cancelled, and her arrest is desired. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 560.)

Lyttelton. —23rd instant, on warrant for being absent without leave from the French ship “Duquesne,” Louis Devran, age nineteen, height about 5 ft. 10 in., seaman, native of France, dark-brown hair, deep-set eyes, flat upturned nose, clean-shaved ; stooping gait.

Thomas, an inmate of Christchuroh Receiving Home, Clarice L. Thomas, alias Cummins, age thirty, height 5 ft. 4 in., domestic, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes; usually dressed in a tweed costume and widebrimmed hat.

Oamaru. —l3th February last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Mary Ellen Meikle, Weston, and two children, Alexander Meikle, age thirty-six, height 6 ft. 2 in., shepherd and contractor, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion, hair, and moustache, blue eyes, long narrow feet; usually dressed in a dark-tweed suit and soft-felt hat; walks with swinging strides.
