Auckland.— Bernard Faber, alias Smith, obscene language, is now serving a sentence of three months in Sydney for theft from the person. (See Police Gazette , 1914, page 777.) (C.R. 11/115.)

Woodville. —18th ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, Sydney Mexted, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 11 in., native of New Zealand, good build, fair complexion; dressed in riding-breeches and leggings or putties, navy-blue coat and vest, and Panama hat. Accused forged his father’s signature (“ Jesse Mexted ”) to a cheque for £lO 10s., and uttered it to Prank Martin Kenney, jeweller, in payment of £5, for a silver hunting lever watch, No. 302762. He is in possession of his father’s cheque-book on the Bank of New Zealand, Dannevirke, Nos. 78441 to 78464. There are other charges pending.

Hastings. —2lst Ootober last, on warrant for false-pre-tences, Franklin John Smith, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., showman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, hazel eyes. Acoused obtained £l3 from Patrick Joseph Charles Lloyd, teller, Bank of New South Wales, Hastings, by falsely representing that he had £2O in that bank at Auckland. Wanganui.— 26th July last, that he may be compelled to maintain his wife, an inmate of Porirua Mental Hospital, Francis Sorrell Smith (known as Pompy Smith), age about forty-six, height 5 ft. in., labourer and pawnbroker, native of England, good build, dark-brown hair going bald, decayed prominent teeth, prominent chin, thin face, clean-shaved ; usually dressed in a grey suit and cap or felt hat; untidy appearance. He was discharged from Featherston Camp on 20th May last.

Wanganui. —2nd instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Florence Ruth Frances Dorothy Roy, and two children, Alfred Franklyn Roy, age fortynine, height 5 ft. 8 in., sailmaker and lineman, native of England, medium build, sallow complexion, curly black hair, dark eyes, tattooed on arms, small crown moustache, wrinkled face ; usually dressed in a grey suit and blaok hard hat; stooped shoulders; fond of drink. Arrears to 12th ultimo, £7 7s. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 314.)

Wellington.— l7th ultimo, for theft of a ladies’ gold ring (recovered), value £2O, the property of Jeff Johnson, showman, New - Zealander Hotel, Edward Myers, alias Myer Myers, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 5 in., tailor, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, hazel eyes, scar on right side ; dressed in a dark brown coat and soft-felt hat. The ring was stolen from a bathroom in the Ne.v-Zealander Hotel and sold to a second-hand dealer for £1 ss. on the 20oh ultimo by a man who gave the name “M. Myers.” The photograph of the suspect has been identified as that of the offender. No warrant. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 449, and Photographs, 1915, page 33.)

Wellington. —4th instant, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address may be instituted against him, William James Bansley, age fifty-one, height 5 ft. in., seaman, native of Australia, slight build, dark hair, blue eyes. He claims to be an American.

Kaiapoi. — 2Gth July last, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address may be instituted against him, Stephen Leg g, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 2 in., farmer, native of England.

Christchurch. —3rd instant, on warrant for failing to maintain bis wife, Sophia Herbert, 15 Richmond Terrace, New Brighton, Sydney James Herbert, age thirtyseven (looks older), height 5 ft. 10 in., seaman, stout build, fair complexion, curly grey hair, hazel eyes, scar on nose, broken teeth, woman and anchor on one forearm ; usually dressed in a dark suit and soft-felt hat; fond of drink, and very abusive when under its influence; erect gait. His photograph is filed in the Superintendent’s Office.

Dunedin. —l4th ultimo, on warrant for being absent from the s.s. “ Remuera ” without leave, Joseph Harris, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in, greaser, dark hair and complexion, brown eyes, thick nose, small fair moustache ; “ M.C.M.G.,” anchor, and oross on left arm ; usually dressed in a dark suit and black muffler.
