Exhibition of Cinematograph-film prohibited

An order, a copy of which is published hereunder, has been made by Hon. Minister of Defence, under Clause 1 of the War Regulations made on Ist Marcn, 1916, prohibiting the exhibition of a cinematograph-film entitled “ Timaru by the Sea.” If any attempt should be made to exhibit this film, officers in charge of districts will give written notioe in accordance with clause 2 of the above-mentioned regulations to those concerned in the exhibition of the film.

Whereas by clause 1 of the regulations made on the Ist day of March, 1916, u,nder the War Regulations Act, 1914, and the amendments thereof, it is provided that the Minister of Defence may, by order signed by him and delivered to the Commissioner of Police, prohibit the exhibition of any cinematograph or moving picture which represents or purports to represent, or may be reasonably supposed to represent, any event in the course of the present war: And whereas the cinematograph picture entitled “ Timaru by the Sea” is deemed by me to represent an event in the course of the present war : Now, therefore I, Sir James Allen, Minister of Defence, do hereby prohibit the exhibition of the said cinematograph picture. Dated at Wellington, this 30th day of September, 1918.

With reference to the memorandum of the Hon. Minister of Justice published in Police Gazette, 1918, page 577, relative to a ballot to be taken on the question of a police association, ballot-papers have now been issued for distribution to members of the Force, and are to be returned to the scrutineer (Mr. W.
