Dargaville.—lst; March last, on warrant for horsestealing, Tu Toaka, age sixteen, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, aboriginal, slight build, copper complexion, black straight hair, dark-brown eyes, prominent upper lip, good teeth, scar on right instep. Accused took a pony, the property of Joseph Powell, labourer, from a paddock at Tangowahine, and sold it to Robert Henry Watson, Te Karaka, for £3 10s.

Dargaville.—l2th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife and four children, Laurits or Lauritz Anderson, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 6 in., seaman, native of Norway, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, large nose ; woman’s head and “ R.S.T.” no right upper arm ; angel, star, shield, “ God bless the Sailor,” &c., on right forearm. Auckland.—29th April last, that she may be compelled to maintain her child, Irene May Clarke, an inmate of Manurewa Children’s Home, Ellen Clarke, age about fifty-four, height about 5 ft. 6 in., cook, stout build, florid complexion, fair hair ; usually carelessly dressed ; untidy appearance.

Manaia.—Bth February last, on warrant for false pretences, Jesse Butler, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 7£in., slight build, dark hair, scar on bridge of nose ; usually dressed in a brown suit, rough heavy tan boots, and soft-felt hat ; sharp features; fond of drink. Accused tendered a valueless cheque for £6 to Charles Blake, motorgarage proprietor, in payment of an account for £5, receiving £1 in change.

Waipawa.—lst ultimo, for forgery and uttering, W. Martin, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, dark hair and complexion, brown eyes ; well dressed in a dark suit and cap. Accused obtained £1 from George Martin, butcher, Otane, by means of a valueless cheque for £lO, drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, in favour of W. Martin, and signed “ Frank Marshall.” He is identical with P. C. Graham, referred to in Police Gazette, 1918, page 371.

Palmerston North.—22nd April last, that proceedings for failing to register as an alien may be instituted against him, George Kairooz, age twenty, height about 5 ft. 5 in., motor mechanic, native of Syria, slight build, dark hair and complexion.

Masterton.—Bth instant, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address may be instituted against him, Maurice Ferguson, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 7 in., auctioneer.

Wellington.—lst instant, on warrant for theft of a “Dodge” motor-car (recovered), value £425, the property of Newton King, Hawera, William McKinnon, age about twenty-seven, height 6 ft., native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion, black hair, dark eyes, heavy dark eyebrows, slight impediment in speech; dressed in a light-

grey suit, slate-coloured soft-felt hat, and black lace-up boots. He is a returned soldier, and is said to have been wounded in one leg. His parents are said to live at Opotiki. Accused stole the car at Hawera on Ist instant, and drove it to Wellington, where he placed it in Magnus Sanderson’s garage to be sold. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 417.)

Wellington. —lst November last, for failing to comply with the terms of his release upon probationary license, John Harvey, alias Henry Hargreaves, alias Cook, alias Taylor, age fifty-three, height 5 ft. 3Jin., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, darkbrown hair, brown eyes, three upper front teeth missing ; crossed anchors, “M.L.,” and three leaves on left forearm ; slightly deaf. His license has been cancelled and his arrest is desired. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 621.)

Wellington. —Bth instant, on warrants for theft of a double-breasted heather-mixture overcoat, lined with brown sateen, small strap at back, ticket-pocket inside right outside pocket, home-made black-satin hanger, and three overcoats (recovered), total value £l3, the property of Herbert Thornley, Robert Rowse, Leslie Kaywood, and John Stick, clerks, care of Union Steamship Company, (1) A. Wilson (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, medium to thin build, fresh complexion, brown hair, thin long features, clean-shaved ; dressed in a brown or slate-coloured suit and soft-felt hat; and (2) B. White (name probably fictitious), age about nineteen, height about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, thin build, pale complexion, fair hair, thin long features; wearing a light-grey overcoat (too large for him) and dark soft-felt bat; careless appearance. The coats were stolen from the coat-room at the Union Steamship Company’s office and sold at Levy’s secondhand shop by men of the description given.

Picton. —7th Maroh last, on warrant of commitment to Pioton Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 fine and costs for being found illegally on licensed premises, George Andrews, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fair complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved, thin face; may be dressed in a brown suit and oap or soft felt hat; plausible manner.

Greymogth. —Bth April last, on warrant for false pretences, Joseph Parr, age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 10in., coal-miner, native of New Zealand, thin build, fair complexion, watery blue eyes, prominent hooked nose, clean-shaved, sharp features ; dressed in military (sergeant’s) uniform ; hangs head when walking ; he holds one arm by his side and says he was shot through the wrist. Accused obtained £5 from John Grattan, miner, Rewanui, by falsely representing that he was a returned soldier, short of money, and unable to get to his home at Westport.

Christchurch —4th ultimo, that he may be compelled to maintain his daughter, Evelvn M. Fluerty, an inmate of Te Oranga Home, George Robert Fluerty, age fortytwo, height about 6 ft., bushman, strong build, sallow complexion, black hair going bald, brown eyes and moustache, round face ; a three quarter-caste Maori. Inquiry is at the instance of the Southland Charitable Aid Board.

Dunedin. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Barbara Emrie Bossward, Arthur George Bossward, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., cook and fireman, native of Tasmania, medium build, dark hair and complexion, grey eyes, scar over left eye, olasped hands and star on left forearm, “ SM” on right forearm.
