Rawene.—3lst August, 1917, that a distress warrant for £2 costs for failing to render personal service may be executed upon his effects, Sydney Stephens, age twentyone, height 5 ft. 8 in., aboriginal, slight build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes. He is now on active service under the name Sydney Tahaua.

Auckland. —6th February last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying 13s. costs for driving a motor-bicycle in Victoria Street without a light, Basil Orr, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 7in., dark complexion, clean-shaved.

Auckland.—2sth ultimo, on warrant for failing to make provision for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, George Nicholson, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., engineer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair oomplexion. Complainant, Gladys Hunt, Vincent Avenue, Remuera.

Auckland. —25th February last, on warrant of commitment to military custody for twenty-eight days in default of paying £5 13s. fine and costs for failing to render personal service (Defence Act, 1909), Joseph Morley, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 9 in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes.

Rotorua.—2lst March last, on warrant of commitment to Rotorua Police-gaol for seven days in default of paying £1 16s. fine and costs for introducing liquor into a Maori pa, James Miller, age fifty-three, height 5 ft. 10 in., mill hand, native of England, slight build, fresh complexion, dark hair turning grey, blue eyes, dark moustache turning grey; slightly stooped; slovenly appearance; fond of drink. Tokaanu.—l7th March last, on warrant for theft of an overcoat (recovered), value £B, the property of Frederick Lowe, Napier, Albert Smith, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 7 in., motor engineer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, curly dark hair; usually dressed in blue trousers, coat, jersey, and cap; fond of gambling. Accused when leaving Tokaanu left the coat with John Cullen, and has since written for it.

Napier. —3rd instant, on warrant for false pretences, Edward Colbeck (name probably fictitious), age about forty-four, height about 5 ft. 10 in., medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, irregular teeth ; usually dressed in a blue-serge suit, fawn-felt hat with rim turned down, and dark-grey-tweed overcoat, and wears a returned soldier’s badge and number of military-service colours on lapel of coat. Accused obtained from the licensee of the Terminus Hotel a blank cheque on the Union Bank of Australia, Napier. He filled it in for £3 155., payable to J. W. Mexted, drawn by Edward Golbeck, and tendered it to David Sligh, boardinghouse-keeper, Craven Street, from whom he received £2. The cheque was subsequently returned marked “ No account.”

Waipukurau. —3rd instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Frederick Harvey McGregor, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, curly dark hair, blue eyes, clean shaved ; usually well dressed in a navyblue suit and grey-felt hat. Complainant, Maud McGregor.

Timaru. —Between the Ist April last and the 19th ultimo, on warrant for theft of £2O, the property of the South Canterbury Returned Soldiers’ Association, Sidney Percy Roberts, age tnirty, height 6 ft. l£in., labourer, native of Australia, stiong build, dark hair and complexion, grey eyes ; usually dressed in a grey or brown suit and brown cap or slouch hat. Bin., aboriginal or half-caste, medium build, copper complexion, black hair, clean shaved, sharp features ; usually dressed in a dark suit and felt hat; speaks good English. Accused sold the bicycle to Leslie Watson McNeill, cycle-dealer, Manchester Street.
