Auckland. —lsth ultimo, on warrant for theft of an overcoat (recovered), value £4, the property of Thomas Fairhurst, motor mechanic, New Lynn, Alfred Mercer (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., fair complexion, brown hair, clean-shaved ; usually dressed in grey trousers, brown coat and vest, and brown soft-felt hat. The coat was stolen from the Druids Hall and pawned for 10s. by a man of the description given.

Auckland. - Thomas Julius Sellgren, failing to enrol : It has now been ascertained that accused left this Dominion on the 26th December last as a member of the crew of the s.s. “Kurow,”for San Francisco. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 371.)

Arrears to 29th April last, £5 10s.

Gisborne. —l9th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, Cyril Simmons, alias Thomas, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 6 in., freezing-works hand, native of Australia, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair going bald, large dark eyes, V-shaped scar over right eye ; usually dressed in a brown or greenish suit and light-green overcoat with “ C.S.” inside collar.

Wanganui. —27th May last, on two warrants of commitment to Auckland Prison for three days on each in default of paying £1 Is. (10s. 6d. on each) fines and costs for failing to send his children to school, Archibald Campbell Linwood, age about sixty-five, height sft. Tin., native of England, stout build, fresh complexion, grey hair, blue eyes ; usually dressed in a dark-blue suit (no hat).

Dannevirke. —7th ultimo, on warrant for habitual drunkenness, George Charman, age forty-nine, height 5 ft. 6|in., restaurateur, native of England, medium build, sallow complexion, brown hair and moustache, brown bloodshot eyes; usually dressed in a brown suit and brown-felt hat. He failed to appear in answer to a summons.

Masterton.— lst October last, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife and two children, Percival Horace Wilmhurst, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., butcher, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, blue eyes; usually well dressed in a dark suit. Complainant, Florence Wilmhurst, 213 Chapel Street. His photograph is filed in the Superintendent’s office, Wellington.

Upper Hutt. —l4th May last, that she may be compelled to maintain her illegitimate child, Margaret E. Ryan, age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 6 in., barmaid, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes; usually dressed in a dark costume. The child which was in September, 1916, left by accused at Mrs. Auckram’s home, Upper Hutt, has now been committed to the Wellington Receiving Home. She may be living with Stanley Bayly, referred to in Police Gazette, 1918, page 38.

Wellington. —2Bth May last, that he may be located and the Acting Consul for Sweden notified of his whereabouts, Oscar Hugo Emanuel Ekholm, age twentyseven. He has not registered under the National Registration Act., 1915, or under the Registration of Aliens Act, 1917. (P. 18/1242.)

Christchurch. —20th April last, on warrant for theft of a ladies’ bicycle (recovered), value £4, the property of Elsie Stephens, Hereford Street, Mrs. Woods (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-eight, tall, thin build, dark complexion ; dressed in dark clothes and small round felt hat. The description given is that of a woman who sold the bicycle to William White, second-hand dealer. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 359.)

Lyttelton.— 24th ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the barque “Amy Turner,” John Wallace Halcome, age twenty, height 5 ft. 10in., cabin-boy, native of America, good build, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, scar on right thumb. He bas also committed the offence “ landing in New Zealand without being in possession of a passport.” (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 256.)

Ashburton. —2oth ultimo, on warrant for theft from a dwelling of a small leather purse, containing £6, and for breaking and entering and theft of £39 7s. 2d. and a cheque for £B, No. 421166, on Bank of New South Wales, Ashburton, drawn by H. Stephenson in favour of J. Walker, the property of Henry Stephenson, auctioneer, William Clausen, alias Johnston, age forty-nine, height 5 ft. 6£in., labourer, native of Denmark, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair and moustache, blue eyes; usually

dressed in a dark-grey-tweed suit, brown soft-felt hat, and Burberry overcoat, and may be carrying a brown-leather brief-bag. The purse and keys were taken from complainant’s bedroom at Allanton, and his office at Ashburton entered and the remainder of the stolen property taken from the safe.
