EXTRACTS FROM NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

(From New Zealand Gazette, 1918, pages 1011, 1012, 1076, and 1082.) Amending Regulations for Fishing for Salmon and for Trout in Salmon Rivers. LIVERPOOL, Governor-General. ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government House at Wellington, this eighth day of April, 1918. Present : His Excellency the Governor-General in Council. WHEREAS by Orders in Council dated the twenty-first day of September, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, and the thirtieth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, and published in the New Zealand Gazettes No. 144, of the twenty-first day of September, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, and No. 17, of the seventh day of February, one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, regulations were made providing that the season for taking quinnat salmon and for taking trout in salmon rivers shall extend from the fifteenth day' of January to the fifteenth day of April:

And whereas it is desirable that such season for one thousand nine hundred and- eighteen shall extend to the tenth day of May in that year .; .... Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in exercise of the power and authority conferred upon him by section eighty-three of the Fisheries Act, 1908, and of all other'powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby make the following regulations for the purposes of the hereinbefore-recited Act.

REGULATIONS,

1. The 1918 season for taking quinnat salmon and for taking trout in salmon rivers shall end on the 10th day of May, 1918, instead of on the 15th day of April, as provided for in the said regulations of the 21st day of September, 1917, and the 30th day of January, 1918 ; provided that after the 15th day of April it shall be unlawful to take salmon or trout in the Waitaki River above a right line drawn from the west end of the stone wall near Clarksfield on the north bank to Borton’s Railway-station, or in the Rangitata River above the mouth of Lynn Creek near Mount Peel. 2. Any person committing a breach of the above regulation is liable to a fine of not less than £2 and not more than £SO.

Altering Regulations for Trout and Perch Fishing in the Hawke's Bay Acclimatization District. LIVERPOOL, Governor-General. ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government House at Wellington, this second day of April, 1918.

Present : His Excellency the Governor-General in Council. WHEREAS it is enacted by Part II of the Fisheries Act, 1908 (hereinafter called ‘‘ the said Act ”), that the Governor-General in Council may from time to time, by Order in Council gazetted, make regulations, to have force and effect throughout New Zealand, or only in such waters or places as are specified in the regulations, for, amongst other things, imposing any conditions or restrictions upon the taking of any fish : And whereas, by Order in Council dated the first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 30, of the ninth day of the same month, regulations for the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatization District were made providing, inter alia, that no bait other than artificial fly shall be allowed in the Tutaekuri or its tributaries; and it is desirable to amend such regulation in the manner hereinafter described :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon him by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities enabling him in that behalf, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby revoke the said recited Order in Council of the first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and sixteen, in so far as it refers to the Tutaekuri River or its tributaries, but not further or otherwise, and doth hereby make the following regulation in lieu thereof:—

“ Provided that no bait other than artificial fly, artificial minnow, or spoon shall be used for taking fish in the Tutaekuri River or its tributaries.”

Hares protected in Feilding and District Acclimatization District. LIVERPOOL, Governor-General. ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government House at Wellington, this sixteenth day of April, 1918. Present : His Excellency the Governor-General in Council.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by section seven of the Animals Protection Amendment Act, 1910, His Excellency the Governor-General of-the Dominion of New Zealand, ■ acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby suspend the operation of the said section seven within the Feilding and district Acclimatization District described in the Schedule hereto with respect to hares.

SCHEDULE. All that area in the Wellington Land District bounded towards the north by the Kawhatau and Pourangaki Streams from the Rangitikei River to the summit of the Ruahine Range ; thence towards the east generally by the summit of that range to the Manawatu Gorge, and by the Manawatu River to the Raukawa Road ; thence towards the south generally by that road which forms the north-eastern boundaries of Section Nos. 455 and 454, Block VIII, Kairanga Survey District, to the Palmerston-Ashhurst Road ; thence by that road to Stony Creek Road ; thence by that road and the railway-line to the Oroua River ; thence by that river to Awahuri; and thence by the Awahuri-Bull’s Road to the Rangitikei River ; and towards the north-west generally by the Rangitikei River to the Kawhatau Stream aforesaid.

Hobson Acclimatization District defined.

LIVERPOOL, Governor-Genera^

IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile. Earl of Liverpool, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby appoint those parts of the said Dominion described in the Schedule hereto to be a district under and for the purposes of the said Act, and I do hereby declare that such district shall be known as the Hobson Acclimatization District.

SCHEDULE. All that area in the Auckland Land District, commencing on the sea-coast at the north-western corner of Block V, Waipoua Survey District; and bounded by the southern boundaries of Blocks I, 11, 111, and IV, Waipoua Survey District, to a public road, across that road, and by the western, southern, and south-eastern boundaries of Section 10, Block I, Tutamoe Survey District, to the north-eastern corner of the last-mentioned section, across a public road, and by the north-eastern boundaries of Sections 5,6, and 7, Block V, Tutamoe Survey District, to the south-eastern corner of Section 5, Block I, Tutamoe Survey District; thence by the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 5,4, 3, and 14 of the last-mentioned block, and part of the southern boundary of Section 5, Block 11, Tutamoe Survey District, to the intersection of a line running between the north-western corner of Section 3, Block XIII, Punakitere Survey District, and Tutamoe Trig. Station ; thence by the last-mentioned line to Tutamoe Trig. Station; thence generally by the northern and north-eastern boundary of Hobson County as described in New Zealand Gazette, 1917, page 3065, to the Otamatea County; thence by the northern boundaiy of Otamatea County as described in New Zealand Statutes, 1886, page 315, to the main road to Waipoua ; thence by the western side of that road through Maungaturoto to the Great North Road, and by the western side of that road to the eastern boundary of Otamatea County; thence by the eastern and southern boundaries of Otamatea County, the eastern and southern boundaries of Hobson County, to the sea; thence by the sea to the north-western corner of Block V, Waipoua Survey District the place of commencement.
