PERSONS WANTED.

+ Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). 22nd ultimo, on warrant for being absent without leave from the s.s. “Westmoreland,” H. Cham ley, age twenty six, height 5 ft. 3 in., seaman and gunner, native of England, medium build, pale complexion, fair hair ; dressed in naval uniform ; slightly stooped.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). 22nd ultimo, on warrant for being absent without leave from the s.s. “Westmoreland,” C. Jeffs, age twenty-five, height sft. in., seaman and gunner, native of England, medium build, fair complexion; dressed in naval uniform.

Huntly.— A. E. Whitcombe, alias “ Whitty the Paddocker,” theft: It has been ascertained by the Huntly police that the accused is now in France, having left this Dominion with the 22nd Reinforcement. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 218.)

Karangahake. —29th ultimo, that a summons for a breach of the Railway By-laws may be served upon him, Frederick Wills (known as Kelly), age thirty-two, Height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and bushman, native of New Zealand, brown hair, clean-shaved ; usually shabbily dressed ; fond of drink.

Te Araroa. —27th ultimo, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address in accordance with the provisions of the Military Service Act, 1916, may be instituted against him, Colin Jamieson Duff, age about twentynine, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and teamster, slim build, dark hair and complexion ; very talkative.

Wellington. —3rd instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Leila Blaokett, Arthur Blackett, alias Lovett, age forty-seven, height 5 ft. 7f in., labourer, native of England, slight build, dark complexion, grey hair, blue right forearm has been broken, scars on left forefinger. Wellington.— lßth April last, on warrant for forgery, John Lawrence Sullivan, age about fifty, height sft. 10 in., clerk, strong build, ruddy complexion, dark hair turning grey, grey protruding eyes ; slightly round shouldered, short pointed beard turning grey ; usually dressed in dark clothes (morning coat) and bowler hat; good address, plausible manner. Accused forged railway consignmentnotes, and retained sums of money which had been paid to him for railage on goods.

Westport. -25th ultimo, on warrant for failing to make adequate provision for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Patrick McDade, alias Kennedy, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 9 in., gold-miner,

native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, hair, and eyes. He holds his head to left side when walking ; usually dressed in a dark suit and black hard-felt hat. Complainant, Esther Mary Finnerty.

Greymouth.— 2lst June last, on warrant of commitment to Greymoubh Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 7s. 6d. fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, Alfred Kirk, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and seaman, native of England, strong build, sallow complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved, burnscar on back of neck; usually dressed in a grey suit and cap; limps slightly. The distress warrant, referred to in Police Gazette, 1917, page 488, has been executed and endorsed “ No effects.”

Otira.-— James Duggan, deserting from Expeditionary Force : Accused’s correct name is John Duggan. (See Police Gazette, 1917, page 504.)

Waikari.— 26th ultimo, for theft of a bicycle (recovered), value £4 19s. 6d,, the property of Edward James Becker, 66 Procter Street, Papanui, John Brown (name probably fictitious), age about nineteen, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and carter, native of New Zealand, slight build, pale complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, round-shouldered ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and felt hat; erect gait; speaks very quickly. He is probably identical with Charles Lilly, referred to in Police Gazette, 1917, page 558. (See “ Property Stolen,” this issue.) (No warrant.)

Christchurch. —4th instant, that a notice of fine for £3 7s. for failing to attend drill may be served upon him, Cyril Clarence McCarthy, age sixteen, height about 5 ft. 4£in., native of New Zealand, fair hair and complexion ; dressed in a dark suit and grey hat.

Timaru. —3rd instant, that two notices of fines for £1 7s. and 17s. respectively for breaches of the Licensing Act may be served upon him, Edward Dennis Galligan, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, scar on forehead and on left side of face ; dressed in a dirty grey suit, and grev slouch bat; slovenly appearance. Dunedin.— lsth ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, George Smith, age thirty, height 6 ft., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, bald, blue eyes, fair moustache; usually dressed in a blue suit and soft-felt hat. Complainant, Elizabeth Dickson, Waibola.

Balclutha. —2Bth August last, that proceedings for failing to notify his change of address in accordance with the provisions of the Military Service Act, 1916, may be instituted against him, Charles Duncan Lyle, age thirtysix, slaughterman.

Kaitangata. 27th ultimo, that a notice of fine for £1 7s. for failing to render personal service may be served upon him, Henry Dennison, age nineteen, height 5 ft. Bin., labourer and trucker, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, fair hair; usually dressed in dark clothes and cap ; cunning appearance.
