EXTRACTS FROM NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

(From Gazette, 1917, page 861.) Regulations for Sambur or Ceylon Deer Shooting, Counties of Manawatu, Oroua, and Kairanga. LIVERPOOL, Governor. ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this fifth day of March, 1917. Present : The Honourable A. L. Herdman presiding in Council. IN exercise of the powers vested in him by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “ the said Act ”), His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby make the following regulations respecting the Sambur or Ceylon deer shooting season within the Counties of Manawatu, Oroua, and Kairanga (hereinafter called “the said district ”).

REGULATIONS. 1. Sambur or Ceylon deer (stags or bucks only) may be taken or killed within the said district from the Ist day of June, 1917, to the 3lst day of July, 1917, both days inclusive. 2. Licenses to kill such deer may be issued by the Chief Postmaster at Wellington, and the Postmasters at Palmerston North, Bull’s, Foxton, and Marton, on payment of a license fee of 205., in the form prescribed in the Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Acts and these regulations. 3. No licensee shall be allowed to take or kill more than two stags or bucks of nob less than four points, and one hind; and, further, the said Chief Postmaster and Postmasters shall not issue more than one license to take or kill deer to the same person. 4. No licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him. 5. Nothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or portion thereof. Schedule. No. License to take or kill Game (Ceylon Deer). , of , having this day paid the sum of £ , is hereby authorized to take or kill Sambur or Ceylon deer (stags or bucks only, and one hind) within the Counties of Manawatu, Oroua, and Kairanga, from the Ist day of June, 1917, to the 3lst day of July, 1917 (both days inclusive), subject to the provisions of the Animals Protection Act, 1913, and the amendments thereof, and the regulations made thereunder. Declaring a certain Area at Pouto Point to be a Sanctuary for

Native Game.

LIVERPOOL, Governor

PURSUANT to the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the area described in the Schedule hereto shall be a sanctuary for the purposes of the said AnimaLs Protection Act, and that no native game shall be taken or killed within the said area.

SCHEDULE. All that area of water, comprising 410 acres (approximately), known as ITumahuma Lake, and situated in Block XIII, Hukatere, and Block I, Okaka Survey Districts, in the Auckland Land District. Also all that area of water, comprising 47 acres (approximately), known as Waingata Lake, and situated in Blocks I and If, Okaka Survey District, in the Auckland Land District. Also all that area of water, comprising 168 acres (approximately), known as Kanono Lake, and situated in Blocks I and 11, Okaka Survey District, in the Auckland Land District. Also all that area of water, comprising 43 acres (approximately), known as Kopupuarere Lake, and situated in Block 11, Okaka Survey District, in the Auckland Land District. Also all that area of water, comprising 4 acres, lying in Subdivisions 6 and 7 of Pouto No. 2e Block, and a distance of fifty chains (approximate) from the south-western corner of Subdivision 6, and situated in Block 11, Okaka Survey District, in the Auckland Land District. Declaring a certain Portion of the Taieri River at the Styx, Central Otago, to be a Sanctuary for Imported and Native Game. LIVERPOOL, Governor. PURSUANT to the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify and declare that the area described in the Schedule hereto shall be a sanctuary for the purposes of the said Animals Protection Act, and that no imported or native game shall be taken or killed within the said area.

SCHEDULE. One mile of the Taieri River upstream from where the Styx Creek enters the said river, and in addition a belt of land ten chains wide on the loft bank of the river for the length of one mile upstream, and on the right bank for mile upstream all the land between the river and the public road. Regulations for Deer-shooting, Lakes District.

LIVERPOOL, Governor

XN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908 (hereinafter called “the said Act”), I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations prescribing the deer-shooting season in the Lakes District Acclimatization District, and the conditions affecting the same, and also the form of license and the fee payable therefor.

REGULATIONS. 1. Red-deer stags may be taken or killed within the Lakes District Acclimatization District from the 2nd day of April, 1917, to the 21st day of May, 1917 (both days inclusive). 2. Licenses to take or kill red-deer stags may be issued by the Postmaster, Queenstown, on the recommendation of the secretary of the Lakes District Acclimatization Society, on payment of a license fee of £4 in the area described in the First Schedule hereto, and on payment of a license fee of £5 in the area described in the Second Schedule hereto; such licenses to be issued in the form prescribed in the Third Schedule hereto, and subject to the said Act and these regulations.

3. No licensee shall take or kill more than four red-deer stags, and no red-deer stag shall be killed carrying antlers with less than ten points. Ball cartridge ody to be used. 4. The licensee must give notice to the said Postmaster of the date on which it is his intention to stalk deer ; such notice to be posted, or delivered, or telegraphed three clear days before such date. 5. No doe, hind, or fawn shall be taken or killed on any pretext whatever; and no licensee shall allow any dog to accompany either himself or any attendant he may have with him. 6 rlothing herein contained shall extend to authorizing any person to sell any deer or any portion thereof. 7. Regulations as to deer “tags,” per New Zealand Gazette No. 40, Vol. I, of 20th May, 1909, page 1408, shall be strictly adhered to by each licensee, who, in addition thereto, shall return all unused “ tags ” to the Secretary of the Lakes District Acclimatization Society, Queenstown, immediately he has finished stalking for the season for which such “tags” have been issued, together with a statement of the number of deer shot. 8. Any person committing a breach of any of these regulations shall be liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding £2O. g First Schedule.

WHEREAS by a Warrant dated the twentieth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and seventeen, made under the Animals Protection Act, 1908, regulations were made prescribing the deer-shooting season in the Canterbury Acclimatization District: And whereas it is expedient to amend the said regulations as hereinafter mentioned: Now, therefore, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers vested in me by the said Animals Protection Act, 1908, do hereby make the following regulation.

REGULATION.

The number of licenses to be issued by the Chief Postmaster at Christchurch, upon the recommendation of the Secretary of the North Canterbury Acclimatization Society, shall not exceed twelve.
