Gympie (Queensland). requested to ascertain the whereabouts of David Thomas, age about sixty, height sft. 5 in., native of Wales, stout build, clean - shaved, slightly pock-marked face, stooped shoulders; heart, anchor, and cross on one arm. He was last heard of at Cloncurry, where he was employed in a copper-mine. He is now believed to be in this Dominion. Inquiry by his wife, Mary Thomas. (P. 16/1126.)
Melbourne (Victoria). —Bth instant. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of George Hawkins, alias Bishop, alias Wildenburg, on a charge of conspiring with Richard Bateman to defraud George Yann of certain money. Description: Age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., thin build, dark hair and complexion, clean-shaved, thin face; dressed in a grey sac suit (rolled lapel and two buttons on coat, “Mark Foy ” on tab) and black-felt hat; a confidence man. He was committed for trial, but bail was allowed and he absconded. His arrest is desired. (P. 16/1554.)
Sydney (New South Wales). —Between the 21st ultimo and the 4th instant the following rings were stolen from the strong-room at the premises of Messrs. ROLLASON AND CO. (Limited), 119 Castlereagh Street: Eight diamond cluster rings, silver-fronted, with six or eight diamonds; a diamond and recon. ruby ring, set with three diamonds and three rubies in claw setting ; a diamond-and-emerald ring, large emerald in centre, surrounded by about twelve diamonds in silver-fronted setting; a diamond-and-tourmaline cluster ring, set with about twelve stones; a diamond-and-opal ring, large black opal in centre, surrounded by six diamonds ; a black opal ring, opals surrounded by about twelve diamonds ; a diamond and recon. sapphire ring, large sapphire in centre, surrounded by ten to fourteen diamonds in silver-fronted setting; a diamond-and-opal cluster ring, set with ten diamonds and one black opal; a diamond-and-pink-tourmaline cluster ring, set with twelve diamonds and one tourmaline in silver-fronted setting ; a diamond-and-pearl ring, large pearl surrounded by diamonds in silver-fronted and mille grain setting; two diamond fancy cluster rings, large diamond in centre, surrounded by small ones in silver - fronted setting; a diamond marquise ring, silver - fronted setting, all diamonds of equal size; twelve diamond cross-over rings, three stones in each, in claw setting; four diamond crossover rings, three stones in eaob, in coronet setting with platinum claws; one emerald-and-diamond cross-over ring, set with one large emerald and two diamonds; a ring set with two emeralds and three diamonds, stones separated, mille-grain setting ; one H.H. ring, set with three emeralds and two diamonds in carved setting ; one H.H. ring, set with six diamonds and one recon. ruby ; twenty-one H.H. rings, set with five diamonds, some claw and some carved settings ; a diamond-and-sapphire H.H. ring, set with five stones ; six five-stone diamond-and-ruby H.H. rings, claw settings; a diamond-and-ru'by ring, set in three rows of five (ten diamonds and five rubies) ; a diamond H.H. ring, originally set with three diamonds (two missing), in carved setting ; a diamond marquise ring, silver-fronted setting ; a diamond fanoy marquise ring, platinum-fronted; eleven single-stone diamond rings; a single-stone diamond ring; five singlestone diamond rings, fancy designs, platinum-fronted setting ; eight two-stone diamond rings, fancy pattern, platinum-and-gold setting ; a one-stone diamond cross-over ring, claw setting ; two three - stone diamond cross-over rings, platinum-and-gold setting; one three-stone diamond cross-over ring, platinum-and-gold setting; nine ladies’ diamond half-hoop rings, numbered respectively 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 17, engraved inside, also maker’s stamp (R and reversed R) inside ; a cross-over ring, set with two pearls
and a diamond ; a oross-over ring, set with two diamonds and a pearl—all rings are 18 ct. gold : total value, £I,OOO. Inquiries are requested at pawn and second-hand shops with a view to tracing the stolen articles. Should any information be received, a communication is to be sent to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington. (P. 16/1552.)
