Whangarei. —l7th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £5 fine for obscene language, James Maloney, age fortysix, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, broad nose ; usually dressed in dark trousers and blue-serge coat and vest; affable manner. Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —7th instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Kinross,” Manuel Gallard, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 5 in., fireman, native of Spain, stout build, sallow complexion ; speaks broken English.

Auckland. —2nd Maroh last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, John Graham, age thirty-nine, height 6 ft., cook, native of England, slim build, fair complexion, dark hair turning grey, blue eyes, round shoulders ; stooping gait; wears spectaoles. Auckland. —Between the Ist and 31st March last, for uttering counterfeit silver coins, Edward Hodder, age about thirty-seven, height about sft. 6in., supposed jeweller and canvasser, slight build, thin pinched features; dressed neatly in a light-brown suit, soft light-ooloured-felt hat and tan boots; dark Jewish appearance. He was an associate of a man named Atkinson, who was suspected of counterfeiting, and who carried on business as a jeweller in Adelaide Road, Wellington. Accused is supposed to be identical with Edward Joseph Hodder, referred to in Police Gazette, 1912, page 242, and also with Joseph White, a suspected counterfeiter. No warrant.

Auckland. 2nd February last, that he may be compelled to maintain his son, William S. Carroll, an inmate of St. Mary’s Industrial School, William Carroll, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 5 in., seaman, native of England, medium build, swarthy complexion, brown hair and eyes, large nose ; scar over each eye, on nose, and on each lip; tombstone inscribed “ In Memory of My Dear Mother,” and rose, shamrock, and thistle on right forearm; “ W.C.” on left forearm. Auckland.— 6th instant, cn warrant for assault and robbery, Walter Turner, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., hawker, native of Australia, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes ; usually dressed in a brown shabby suit and black soft-felt hat. In a urinal at the Newmarket Hotel accused assaulted and robbed Harry Kerr, taking £1 ss. from him. Auckland.— 23rd February last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven dais in default of paving £2 9s. 6i. costs for attempted suicide, Margaret Ellen Colquitt, alias Halley, &c., age thirty-one, height sft. 3in., domestic, native or New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, brown hair, bluo eyes. Waihi. —Between the Ist January last and 31st ultimo, on warrant for theft of bullion value £2O, the property of the Waihi Gold-mining Company (Limited), W. Stewart, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 8 in., supposed native of Australia, medium active build, sallow complexion, black hair, full grey or dark eyes, slightly hooked nose ; usually dressed in a dark or brown suit, linen double collar, black boots, and Dr. Jim or straw hat; and wears a gold double watch-chain, and a signet ring (set with a flat smooth greenish stone) on left little finger; slightly Jewish appearance; walks with head slightly forward. Accused resembles John Oscar Bell, alias West. (See Photographs, 1911, page 47.) He bad been buying stolen gold from William Duncan Smith, who has been arrested. He may visit other goldfields in this Dominion.

Gisborne. —lsth April last, on provisional warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, Nita Higgins, Walter Jackson, alias Walter Wilson, age about twenty-nine, height about 5 ft. 9 in., butcher, native of Australia, medium build, fair complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes, straight nose, long thin face, three upper teeth missing; left-handed; usually dressed in a brown suit, or grey trousers and black ooat, grey soft-felt hat, and black lace-up boots. He may now be growing a beard. Accused left New South Wales without providing for the maintenance of his child. Complainant, Ethel May Higgins, Forbes, New South Wales.

Gisborne. — 6th ultimo, for theft of a cheque for £6 (recovered), the property of Percy William Smith, Mangapapa Valley, Man (name unknown), age thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., supposed bushman, medium build, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in dark clothes. Complainant lost the cheque, and it was afterwards presented by a man of above description to Harry Skillon, barman, Gisborne Hotel, who cashed it. No warrant.

Taumarunui. — James O’Brien, assault and robbery : It has been ascertained by tbe Rahotu police that accused has assumed the name W. Strongman, and that he passed through Okato aud New Plymouth on the 16th ultimo; He has a brother, Jerry O'Brien, an ex-pugilist, living in Auckland. (See Police Gazette, 1913, page 394.)

Napier.— 2sth April, 1915, on warrant for failing to provide his wife wicn adequate maintenance and leaving New Zealand without the permission in writing of a Magis-

trate, William Blowes, age sixty-four, height 5 ft. 11£ in., farmer, native of England, active build, dark complexion, grey hair, large hazel eyes, bushy eyebrows, high cheekbones, long aquiline nose, thin features; woman holding vase, flowers, and leaves, and other profuse tattooing on arms; ring on middle finger (believed left hand) ; name (probably “ Wiremu ”) on chest; usually dressed in a blueserge suit and dark soft felt hat; deep loud voice ; keeps the company of socialists. He was last seen in Melbourne in November, 1915. Extradition expenses from the Commonwealth of Australia are guaranteed. Complainant, Margaret Adelaide Blowes, Clive.

Marton. —22nd April last, on warrant of commitment to Wanganui Prison for four days in default of paying £1 6s. fine and costs for assault, Patrick Edward McHugh, age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 9 in., drover, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes; usually dressed in brown riding-breeches and leggings, brown coat and vest, and light-felt bat; erect gait.

Petone.— 23rd ultimo, on warrant for endeavouring to impose upon a charitable institution, Daniel Barney Sullivan, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of Ireland, thin build, sallow complexion, fair hair, blue eyes right hand missing, prominent chin ; dressed in khaki riding pants and putties, grey coat and vest, khaki-felt hat, aud tan boots; very talkative ; fond of drink; low appearance. Accused endeavoured to impose upon the War Relief Association by falsely representing that he was a returned soldier and a married man with a family.

Wellington.—l6th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his four children, Alfred George Tattle, age thirty-five, height sft. 6in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes; woman in tights on right arm; woman in tights, bust of woman, and three dots on left arm. Nelson. —Bth instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, Miri Gay, George Thomas Austin, age forty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., compositor, native of England, stout build, fair complexion, light brown hair going bald, blue eyes, round full face ; usually dressed in a brown or black suit, and brown-felt or black hard hat. He is fond of drink and gambling, and frequents billiardsaloons. His photograph is filed in the Superintendent’s Office, Wellington. Christchurch. —24th August, 1915, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for tbe support of his wife, Henrietta Sandford, Linwood, Samuel Sandford. age about fifty-five, height 5 ft. 10^in., labourer, native of Ireland, slim build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, grey eyes, large crooked nose; fond of drink. Christchurch.— 9th December, 1912, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for three months in default of paying £47 3s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, Francis Burkitt, age fifty, height sft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slim build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, hazel eyes, scar on right arm and wrist, right little finger twisted; usually shabbily dressed ; fond of drink.
