PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland. —3rd instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Olive Graham, Sylvester Auckland. Graham, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 6 in., blacksmith, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown ejes, small features. Arrears to 17th ultimo, £25.

Auckland.— 3lst ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for twenty-four hours in default of paying 6s. costs for drunkenness, James Clark, age thirtysix, height 5 ft. Bin., fireman, native of England, strong build, dark hair and complexion, hazel eyes, scar over each eye, woman and sailor on right arm, snake on left hand.

Auckland.— Oscar James Hodder, default of maintenance : No action is to be taken at present. (See Police Oatette, 1916, page 217.)

Auckland. —7th January last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of pajing £4O 16s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his two children, inmates of St. Mary’s Industrial School, Alexander McDonald, age fifty-four, height 5 ft. 5 in., painter, native of Scotland, medium build, fresh compl xion, brown hair, blue eyes, blue spot on right forearm. Arrears computed to 13th December, 1915. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 582.)

Auckland. —lßth February last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, Thomas Short, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 10 in., carter, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, short thick neck. Arrears to 4th February last, £6. Complainant, Annie Nicholson, 64 Franklin Road.

Newmarket. —3rd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Kaitaia Police-gaol for fourteen days in default of paying £5 costs for deserting from the s.s. “Orari,” F. A. Collins, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., baker, native of England, medium build, sallow complexion, light-brown hair; walks with a slight stoop. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 98.)

Thames. —24th January last on warrant for theft of a gold-mounted boar-tusk watch-chain (recovered), a silver watch, a pair of riding-pants, a pair of boots, and a hat, total value £l2 7s. 6d., identifiable, the property of Ratoru Mikare, William Tuki, alias Jack Tuki, age about twenty-five, height about 6ft., labourer, aboriginal, medium build, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes. Accused pawned the watch-chain at Auckland on the 31st January last.

Napier. —loth February last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Geraldine Akahuta, and children, Rau Akahuta, ago twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 6|in., labourer, aboriginal, medium build, cooper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, fiat nose, “ R.A.” on left forearm, scar on left thumb, scars on shins. His photograph is filed in the Inspector’s Office, Napier. Arrears to Ist January last, £ls 10s. 6d. (See Police Gazette, 1913, page 508.)

Patea.—l7th January last, on warrant foe failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Andrew Golman, age twenty-five, height 5 ft, 9£in., painter and soldier, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, prominent nose. Accused left New Zealand with the Ninth Reinforcements. Complainant, Mary Scott.

Taihape. —lst February last, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, Reginald Herbert Beliss, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., tailor and soldier, native of New Zealand, slim build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes. Accused left New Zealand with the Ninth Reinforcements. Complainant, Kathleen Beattie.

Taihape. —27th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying Bs. balance of fine and costs for drunkenness, Charles August Tomlinson, age fifty-two, height sft. sin., reporter, native of New Zealand, stout build, florid complexion, grey hair, hazel eyes; usually dressed in a greytweed dirty suit, hard black hat and tan boots.

Wanganui. — 10th instant, on warrant for obtaining credit by fraud, J. D. Goodwin, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 9 in., native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, dark hair; usually dressed in a green Norfolk suit and brown soft bat: smart appearance. Accused incurred a debt of £lO with Lawrence Joseph Cronin, motor-car proprietor, by falsely representing that he was employed by the Government inspecting telegraph-lines. Accused used complainant’s ear for two days, and then cleared out. There are other charges pending. He is probably identical with Harold Carter, alias A. J. Carter, alias Harold Barnaby, referred to in Police Gazette, 1914, pages 335 and 353. (See Police Gazette, 1915, pages 580 and 628 )

Waipukurau. —2sth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, F. G. Berry (name probably fictitious), age about forty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey ; usually dressed in drabcoloured riding-pants, greenish-grey Norfolk coat, tan boots and leggings, and grey cap ; smart appearance. Accused obtained £1 Is. 6d. from Victor Aulin, shop-assistant, by means of a valueless cheque for £3 on the Bank of New Zealand, Dannevirke. He committed other offences under the names Harris and Burberry.

Levin. —9th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for six months in default of paying £l9. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Kate Leader, Albert Leader, age forty, height 5 ft. 6in., blacksmith, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eves ; usually dressed in a dark-tweed suit and black soft-felt hat; very talkative, and uses a great deal of slang; fond of drink. He is well known to most racehorse owners and trainers.

Masterton. —l2th instant, that she may be compelled to contribute towards the maintenance of her son, an inmate of an industrial school, Harriet Maud Parsons, alias Larkins, age thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, stout build, fresh complexion, dark hair.

Greytown North. —lsth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wanganui Prison for one month in default o f paying £3O 10s. 6d. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Amy Grace McLean, and two children, Finlay John McLean, ase forty-three, height 5 ft. 5 in., farmer and commission agent, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes; well educated; pleasant manner. Wellington. —27th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Pauline May Wiggins, William Henry Wiggins, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 7 in., motor mechanic, native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes. Arrears to 27th ultimo, £7 10s.

Wellington. —27th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Mary Welsh, Alfred Welsh, age twentysix. height 5 ft. 10 in., native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes. He is a member of the military police. Arrears to 27th ultimo, £4 Is.

Wellington. —l3th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Annie Elizabeth Florance, George Thomas Florance, age thirty-six, height 5 fc. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and complexion, brown eyes. Arrears to 13th ultimo, £32.

Wellington. —lsth February last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for twenty-four hours in default of paying 15s. fine and costs for being illegally on licensed premises, Robert McCartney, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 3in., medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair and eyes, prominent nose.

Wellington. —6th instant, on warrant for unlawfully landing in New Zealand, Joseph Joseph, age twentyeight, height 5 ft. 9in., fireman, native of India, slim build, black hair and complexion, brown eyes; speaks English fairly well. Accused, who is a prohibited immigrant, landed at Wellington on the 6th instant. He is also wanted on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Uganda.”

Wellington.— William Alexander Sammons, dedefault of fine and costs, has paid £3 to the Lower Hutt police. There is still 3s. owing on the warrant. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 706.)

Reefton.— Bth instant, that a notice of fine for £2 7s. for dry-boring may be served upon him, Samuel Arlow, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., miner, native of New Zealand, fair hair and complexion, grey eyes; usually dressed in a grey-tweed suit and hard-felt hat; frequents hotels.

Rangiora. William Alfred Stevens, default of maintenance: It has been ascertained by the Rangiora police that the arrears are £l4 Is. sd. —not £2O 15s. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 204.)

Christchurch. —l9th October, 1915, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for six months in default of paying £1 15s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Robert Goodsman Telfer, age sixty-two, height 5 ft. 3Jin., dealer and farm hand, native of England, strong build, fresh complexion, grey hair and eyes, scar on left leg and on right forefinger; left leg has been broken. Timaru. —loth ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, James Benjamin Weir, age twenty-three, height about 5 ft. 10 in., butcher, labourer, and soldier, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes ; usually dressed in a brown suit and brown soft-felt hat. Complainant, Martha Madeline Jarvis, Mount Somers.

Dunedin. —7th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of Alfred Gentleman, an inmate of Caversham Industrial School, Joseph Gentleman, age fifty-four, height sft. 4|in., plasterer and labourer, native of Tasmania, medium build, fresh complexion', brown hair, dark-grey eyes, thick nose.
