PERSONS WANTED.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —16ih ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Tongariro,” Albert Edward Hidings, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 6 in., steward, native of-Eugland, medium build, pale complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, scald-mark on chest, small scar on back of right hand, several small scars on back, second toe on each foot missing. Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). —18th ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Tongariro,” Thomas Haggarth, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 5 in., fireman, native of England, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, clasped hands and heart on right arm ; usually dressed in a dark suit and cap ; surly expression.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland).- 18th ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s s. “Tongariro,” Benjamin Thomas, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 7in , trimmer, slim build, fair hair and complexion, grey eyes ; usually dressed in a dark suit, cap, and scarf.

Auckland. —3lst ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain her child, Mrs. L. Clark, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 5 in., domestic, native of England, good figure, fresh complexion, dark hair, brown eyes; respectable appearance. Complainant, Miss Jackson, Industrial School, Mount Albert.

Auckland. —19th January last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 17s. costs for attempted suicide, Thomas Crawley, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., fireman, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, grey eyes, hand and rose on right forearm.

Auckland.— 2oth January last, for theft of a suit-case and contents, recovered (except an 18 ct. gold double-bar brooch, upright bar in centre, set with a ruby and diamond ; a Swan fountain pen ; an 18 ot. gold brooch, set with sapphires), total value £l6 10s., identifiable, the property of Jane Linberg, Man (name unknown), age about thirty, height s ft. 7in., medium build, dark hair and eyes; usually dressed in dark clothes and hard hat; dirty appearance. No warrant.

Auckland. —23rd ultimo, for false pretences, Man (name unknown), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, fair complexion, dark-brown hair ; well dressed in dark clothes. Accused obtained two calabash pipes (one silvermounted with bent stem and amber mouthpiece, 8.8.8. brand, in red case; the other silver-mounted, with vulcanized mouthpiece), value £2 10s. 6d., from Gertie Campion, by falsely representing that they were intended for a presentation to one of the staff of the South British Insurance Office. Accused is supposed to have an accomplice, who offered one of the pipes for sale, and who is described as follows: Age about forty, height about 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair ; shabbily dressed in a blue suit and soft brown hat; fond of drink. No warrants.

Auckland. — George Ebert, default of maintenance: It has been ascertained that accused is identical with George Ebert, referred to in Police Gazette , 1912, page 73, and Photographs, page 12. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 183.)

Auckland.—7th February last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Mary Agnes Hardwick, James Hardwick, age forty, height 5 ft. 3 in., miner, native of New Zealand, medium build, pale complexion, dark hair, brown eyes. Arrears to 4th instant, £l2 Is.

Auckland. —3rd instant, that he may be compelled to contribute towards the maintenance of his grandchild, Eileen Cullen, an inmate of St. Josephs Industrial School, Alexander Money, age fifty-six, height 5 ft. 9 in., carpenter and joiner, native of Scotland, slight build, fair complexion, grey hair, brown eyes, pock-marked face, scars on back of head ; carries his head to one side. Inquiry by the Education Department, Wellington.

Auckland. —31st ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for three months in default of paying £B7 Is., arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his child, Gordon Lincoln Campbell, Angus Campbell, age forty-three, height 6 ft., labourer, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar on right thumb and forefinger, left little finger has been broken at first joint. Arrears oomputed to 19th January last. (See Police Gazette , 1913, page 393.)

Auckland. 27th ultimo, on warrant for smoking opium, Lee Fong, alias Ah Lee, alias Lee Kee, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 2 in., laundry-man, native of China, slight build, sallow complexion, black hair, darkbrown eyes. Accused failed to appear in answer to a summons for smoking opium at his laundry in New North Road. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 167.)

Auckland. —23rd ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Violet Stewart, 37 Rose Road, Frank Stewart, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 9 in., biograph operator, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark hair and complexion, brown eyes, bushy eyebrows, good teeth, scar on back of neck. Waipawa. —9th February last, that two summonses for failing to maintain his wife and family may be served upon him, Edgar Gibbert Moody, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and complexion. His photograph is filed in the Inspector’s Office, Napier.

Taihape.— 24th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wanganui Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 3s. fine and oosts for drunkenness, John Greenwood, alias Greenwell, alias Grunwood, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 6^in., labourer, native of Australia, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, grey eyes, flat broken nose, right middle finger injured. Taihape. —2nd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wanganui Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £2 9s. fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, Frank Harvey, age fifty - three, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, fair bair, grey eyes ; usually dressed in dark clothes and wide soft hat. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 174 )

Wellington. —lßth December, 1915, that he may be compelled to maintain his four children, inmates of the Wellington Receiving Home. Frederick Blacklidge, age thirtytwo, height 5 ft. 9§in., labourer, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, curly dark hair, brown eyes, danc-ing-girl on chest, butterfly on each upper arm, ivy-leaf and half-bracelet on left forearm, clasped hands on right wrist, ring on left ring finger, bust of woman on right thigh, woman and child on right calf, swimming-girl on left calf. Inquiry by the Education Department. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 18.)

Wellington. Frederick William Gough, false pretences : It has been ascertained by the Wellington police that accused was wearing khaki uniform on the 28th February last, and is likely to continue wearing it. (See Police Gazette, 1916, page 218.)

Mount Cook. —27th January last, on warrant for theft of a pair of twill sheets, value 155., identifiable, the property of Robert Henry Nelson Stewart, 14 Epuni Street, »Elsie Joan Atkinson, age twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 10in., dressmaker, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, black hair, hazel eyes. She may be dressed in a black tartan skirt, white blouse, and black hat, and may be representing herself as Nurse Anderson recently returned from Flanders. There are other charges pending. Kaiapoi. —6th instant, on warrant for failing to make provision for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Edward Miller, age about ninoteen, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer and carter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown bair, blue eyes, face twitohes when he is talking ; usually dressed in dark trousers, black coat and boots, and light check cap. Complainant, Lillian Rose Fisk.

Lyttelton.— 2nd instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Arawa,” Louis Yercesi, age twenty, height 5 ft. 6 in., seaman, native of America, medium build, sallow complexion, fair hair, large nose ; usually dressed in dark clothes and muffler ; Jewish appearance.

Christchurch.— 3lst October, 1910, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Ernest George Price, age about thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 7|in., ex naval seaman and painter, native of England, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue-grey eyes, large nose. Arrears to 27th ultimo, £127 10s. (See Police Gazette, 1911, page 190, and Photographs, page 31.)

Christchurch. —22nd July, 1915, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, Frederick Boyce, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., ex-railway surfaceman and soldier, native of New Zealand, slim build, dark complexion, hair, and eyes. Complainant, Amy Catherine Long, 7 Bishops Road, Papanui.

Ashburton. warrant for £1 10s. for a breach of the by-laws may be executed upon his effects, Janies Ogilvie, age about forty-nine, height about 6 ft., carpenter, thin build, sallow complexion, hair turning grey, grey eyes, large nose ; usually dressed in dark clothes and cap.

Ashburton. —Ist ultimo, on warrant for failing to make provision for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Harry Miles, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 2 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, hair, and eyes. He left New Zealand with the 10th Reinforcements on the 4th ultimo. Complainant, Ivy Young, Hinds.

Timaru. —7th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Timaru Police-gaol for seven days in default of paying £1 fine and costs for assault, J. Rodgers, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 9 in., fireman, native of England, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, square jaws ; usually dressed in a brown suit and cap and tan boots.

Dunedin. —3lst ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his two children, William Saunders, age forty, height 5 ft. 9§ in., labourer and fireman, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes ; flag on right arm ; heart, anchor, and cross on left arm ; usually dressed in a dirty suit and cap, and wears a blaok handkerchief round his neck; fond of drink.
