Auckland. —23rd ultimo, for false pretences, Man (name unknown), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, fair complexion, dark-brown hair ; well dressed in dark clothes. Accused obtained two calabash pipes (one silvermounted with bent stem and amber mouthpiece, 8.8.8. brand, in red case; the other silver-mounted, with vulcanized mouthpiece), value £2 10s. 6d., from Gertie Campion, by falsely representing that they were intended for a presentation to one of the staff of the South British Insurance Office. Accused is supposed to have an accomplice, who offered one of the pipes for sale, and who is described as follows: Age about forty, height about 5 ft. 8 in., medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair ; shabbily dressed in a blue suit and soft brown hat; fond of drink. No warrants.

She may be dressed in a black tartan skirt, white blouse, and black hat, and may be representing herself as Nurse Anderson recently returned from Flanders. There are other charges pending.
