INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.
Brisbane (Queensland). —24th ultimo, a warrant has been issued by the Brisbane Bench for the arrest of Albert Clarence Elliott, charged with knowingly and fraudulently uttering a false document, purporting to be a cheque, drawn on the Commercial Bank of Australia (Limited), Brisbane, for £23, dated 10th January, 1916, and signed *■ James Reed,” at Brisbane, on the 10th January, 1916. Description: Thirty-seven years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, dark complexion and moustache, grey eyes, brown curly hair, medium build, speaks with a nasal accent; a typist or telegraphist; has served three years with the Field Artillery, Auckland ; a native of Kamo, Whangarei, New Zealand. Offender is identical with Albert Clarence Elliott, deserter from the Australian Imperial Force, Brisbane (vide Police Gazette, 1916, page 98.) He may be identical with Albert Clarence Elliott, referred to in Neiv Zealand Police Gazette, 1910, page 360. If located an urgent communication is to be sent to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington. (See Queensland Police Gazette, 1916, page 115.)
Bathurst (New South Wales). —On the 27th January last the dead body of a man, whose identity, further than being known as “ Alf,” has not been established, was found in the Bank of Vale Creek, Bathurst, death having taken place during the previous night from natural causes accelerated by intemperance. Description of deceased : Forty to fifty years of age, 5 ft. 6in. high, medium build, strong brown hair and moustache tinged with grey, grey eyes, teeth missing from both jaws, ruptured in right groin and urinary organs affected ; clothed in a black-tweed pencil-striped suit, cream net shirt, drab soft felt hat with black band, and elastic-side boots ; a groom or cook ; had with him a dirty swag. Believed to be a native of Taranaki, New Zealand. Was a heavy drinker. (See New South Wales Police Gazette, 1916, page 1.06.)
Sydney (New South Wales).— The following cable has been received from the Sydney police : 11 Escaped from legal custody here, 12th instant, whilst under committal on serious charges, including shooting with intent to murder, Donald Frazer, alias McPherson, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. Biin., blacksmith, native of Victoria, thin to medium build, brown hair turning grey, about ten days’ growth beard, blue eyes, face and neck deeply creased result of skin disease ; dressed in a dark-grey suit (stripe through material), and black boots. He is identical with offender same name, alias Wilkins, alias Dixon, vide New South Wales Police Gazette, 1915, page 503, also Photo-book 73, page 143. Arrest urgently desired.” Polioe in all districts will pay special attention to this. (P. 16/385.)
