PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland. —Counterfeit bank-notes : One of the £lO notes referred to in Police Gazette, 1914, page 263, was tendered on the 4th instant to Jessie Thorburn, saleswoman, Te Aro House, Wellington, in payment for a ohild’s jaoket, by a Woman (name unknown) who evidently became suspicious and left the shop (while change was being obtained) without taking her parcel or ohange. Description : Age about thirtytwo, height about 5 ft. 2 in., slim build, dark hair and complexion, face profusely powdered; dressed in a white-silk blouse, black skirt, and soft white cloth hat with black band. She was accompanied by a little girl, about five years of age, fair hair; dressed in a white-silk frock, and wearing a large amethyst brooch. The woman can be identified.

Auckland.— 22nd December, 1913, on warrant for false pretences, Robert John Robertson, ago thirty-three, height 5 ft. 9|in., steward, native of Australia, thin build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, blue mark on

left forearm, cross on left wrist, flag in square on right forearm, scar on right palm ; very talkative ; usually dressed in a blue-serge suit with double-breasted coat, and straw hat. Accused was awaiting sentence (on bail) on a charge of obtaining £3O from William Nelson, tinsmith, 51 Brown Street, by falsely representing that a piano held by him on the hire system was his own property. Auckland. —On or about the 17th ultimo, for escaping from Rotoroa Inebriates’ Home, Alexander Sadie, alias Ainslie, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 6Jin., boilermaker, native of Scotland, medium build, fresh complexion, darkbrown hair, grey eyes, left forefinger and right leg amputated, scar on top of head. Auckland. —2Bth ultimo, that she may be compelled to pay £5 7s. 6d. arrears due for the support of her child, an inmate of Auckland Industrial School, Ellen Bennett, alias Rutherford, alias Driscoll, age thirty-six, height about sft. 2in., domestic, slight build, brown hair, blue eyes, artificial teeth ; usually neatly dressed. Arrears computed to 22nd June, 1915. Inqrfiry by the Education Department, Wellington.

Hamilton.— 2lst ultimo, on warrant for theft of a letter containing a postal note, No. 830103, for 55., the property of the Postmaster-General, William Edward Cressey, age fourteen, height about 5 ft. 2 in., cadet (Telegraph Department), native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, black hair, dark brown eyes; usually dressed in grey knickerbockers and coat, panama hat and black lace-up boots; smart appearance. He may seek employment at racing stables.

Waverley. 23rd ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Frank Parker, age about twenty-two, height about 5 ft. 7 in., hotel-porter, native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, hair, and eyes; dressed in a white shirt with black stripes and brown suit and tie ; smart active appearance. Accused obtained £1 from Walter Connell by falsely representing that he wanted the money for his brother who was passing through by train on his way to Trentham Camp. He may have a brown suit case with him. There is another similar charge pending.

Hastings.— 2oth October, 1915, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his two illegitimate children, George Patrick Maclachlan, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 7in., farmer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, dark hair; fond of drink. Arrears to Ist ultimo, £lO 17s. 6d.

Wanganui.— 3lst. January last, on warrant for receiving £2 16s. from Isabella P. Prince, on terms requiring him to account for the same to his employer, Louisa Bull, Bull Street, Harry Sutherland, age forty, height 5 ft. Gin., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, fair hair; fond of drink and gambling. Accused was driving a bread-cart for complainant when he collected the amount and failed to account for it.

Palmerston North. —25th ultimo, for theft of a double half-hoop ring set with five diamonds and five rubies, an 18 ct. gold wedding-rir g, and a 9ct. gold open-face wristletwatch with a 9 ct. gold ornamental bracelet attached, the property of John Bannatyne Gerand, jeweller, total value £3O (identification doubtful), H. Payne (name probably fiOtitious), age about thirty three, height about sft. 7 in., thin build, brown hair; neatly dressed in a navy-blue suit and grey cap. Accused, who said he was staying at the Grand Hotel, was permitted to take the jewellery away on the understanding that he would return in half an hour. No warrant.

Wellington.— Arthur Mandle or Mendel inquired for. It has been ascertained by the Wellington police that this man left Wellington on the 2nd instant by the 9.10 p.m. Wellington-Auckiand express. He is still clean-shaved and dressed in a brown Dr. Jim hat, well turned up on one side. He has with him a tin trunk and portmanteau, and is going by the name Mandel. Wellington.— 2lst January last, on warrant for false pretences, Benjamin Bronkhorst, age forty, height atout 5 ft. 8 in., bora'dinghouse-keeper, native of England, fresh complexion, fair hair ; dressed in a light-brown sac suit, and brown soft felt hat. Accused obtained £2 from Frederick Edwin Goodey, Cuba Street, by means of a valueless cheque on the National Bank of New Zealand (Limited), Te Aro. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 739.)

Wellington. —l3th and 14th December, 1915, on two warrants of commitment to Wellington Prison for three days on each in default of paying £3 (£1 10s. on each) for breaches of his prohibition order, John McKinnon, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 6|in., labourer, native of Scotland, medium build, sallow complexion, dark-grey hair, grey eyes, rose on anchor on right arm, half bracelet on right wrist, sailor in wreath and clasped bands on left arm. Wellington. —2sth ultimo, on warrant for assisting in tbe management of a brothel at 95 Molesworth Street, Florence White, alias Stewart, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 6in., prostitute, native of Australia, slim build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes ; dressed in a violetcoloured rough skirt, white-silk blouse, and panama hat with purple ribbon.

Wellington.— 27th December, 1915, and 21st January last, on two warrants of commitment to Wellington Prison for —(1) three days in default of paying £1 10s., and (2) seven days in default of paying £2 10s., fines and costs for breach of his prohibition order, Thomas Forsyth, age forty-one, height sft. B|in., fireman, native of England, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar under left eye, fish on back of left forearm, three dots between left forefinger and thumb. Granity. —26th October, 1915, on warrant of commitment to Westport Prison for one month in default of paying £2 7s. fine and costs for using abusive language, Charles Jones, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. in., labourer, native of England, good build, brown hair, grey eyes, thick nose, speaks with a Cockney accent ; slovenly gait.

Dunollie.— l7th ultimo, on warrant for theft of £2, the property of Michael Patrick Comerford, Runanga, Robert David Morrison, age twenty-seven, height sft. 6in., labourer, native of England, good build, pale

complexion, brown hair, artificial teeth in upper jaw (plate broken), slightly bow-legged, walks with a slight stoop, sears on right arm, tattooed on left arm, striding gait; plausible manner ; speaks with Lancashire dialect; usually dressed in a navy-blue serge suit and straw hat. Accused was employed by complainant as a traveller when he converted the money to his own use.

Christchurch. —l6th July, 1912, that he may be compelled to comply with a maintenance order for the support of his children, inmates of the Government Receiving Home, Walter Willis, age about thirty-two, height about 5 ft. 7 in., waiter, native of New Zealand, dark complexion, dark-brown hair. Inquiry by the Education Department, Wellington.

Dunedin.— 2oth January last, on warrant of commitment to military custody for twenty-eight days in default of paying £5 10s. fine and costs for a breach of the Defence Act, Charles James Brown, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 9in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, speaks with a drawl, reserved manner.
