Accused falsely represented to William Benjamin Anderson, taxi-cab proprietor, that his brother owned 5,000 acres of land at Makaraka, and engaged complainant to motor him to Gisborne. On arrival at Matawhero he disappeared without paying his fare, £25. He may be identical with John Bertram Howard, referred to in Police, Gazette, 1915, page 735.
