SPECIAL INQUIRY.

Invercargill. —3rd instant. Information is required as to the identity of a Man whose body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition at the entrance to Biuff Harbour on the 24th ultimo. Description : Between forty and fifty years of age, height about 5 ft. 6in., stout build, four teeth missing from left side of lower jaw, which may have fallen out since death, as the remaining ones were very loose; dressed in dark-tweed trousers and vest, soft white shirt with blue stripes, blue tie with black stripe,‘ white celluloid collar, and tan lace-up boots recently half-soled. The following articles were found on him: A pair of steel-rimmed pince-nez in a case stamped “ T. M. Rankin, watchmaker, Invercargill”; an Ansonia open-faced metal watch ; a brass curb chain; a flat gold-mounted greenstone pendant, with part of the mounting broken ; a common door-key ; and a pencil marked “ Lewis and C 0.,” Invercargill. The body had evidently been in the water about two months. Any information obtained is to be sent to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington. (P. 15/802.)
