Auckland.— 19th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his children, 'William John Arthur, age forty, height 6 ft., miner, native of Australia, stout build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes, upper lip damaged by fighting, scar over right eye; usually dressed in a grey suit and cap ; fond of drink. He may have gone to Sydney. Complainant, Henrietta Arthur, 41 Grey Street, Auckland. (See Police Gazette, 1913, page 561.)

Auckland. —On or about the Ist February last, on warrant for false pretences, H. Graham, age about thirty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., blacksmith, supposed native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, fair moustache turning grey. Accused, having answered an advertisement by Messrs. Burns and Co. for a blacksmith to proceed to Matiere, obiained £1 4s. fnm them to pay his fare, but never reached there.

Auckland. — 9th February last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying £ll ss. fine and costs for using gelignite to catch fish, William Reid, age forty, height 5 ft. 7Jin., native of Scotland, medium build, sallow complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; clasped bands, heart, and “ friendship ” on right forearm. Waihi.— Stephen Reay, failing to provide for unborn illegitimate child : It has been ascertained by the Dunollie police that accused is now in England. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 747.)

Huntly.— 2Brd ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, George Barrett (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-three, height about 5 ft. 3 in., labourer, supposed colonial, slight build, pale complexion, brown hair, blue-grey eyes, high forehead; wearing a dark suit, brown cap, and soft white shirt; has the appearance of a farm labourer. Accused stole three blank cheques on the National Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, from bis employer, E. N. Grimwade. He filled one in for £6 ss. 6d. and forged Mr. Grimwood’s name to it, and uttered it to William Thomas Draper, care of Messrs. Green and Colebrook, storekeepers, Huntly, in payment of an account, receiving £5 9s. 6d. in change. (See following paragraph.)

Huntly. —24th ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, George Barrett (name probably fictitious): Accused forged the name of E. N. Grimwade to a cheque for £5 10s. 6d. on the National Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, and uttered it to Edward William Sheeran, bootmaker, Huntly, in payment of an account, receiving £4 11s. in change. The number of the third stolen cheque, whioh has not yet been made use of, is H 02711. (See preceding paragraph.)

Tauranga. —10th instant, on warrant for theft of a gentleman’s bicycle, value £2 10s., with owner’s name scratched on saddle underneath saddle-cloth (which is green), the property of Arthur Hicks, George Hale, alias Davidson (name probably fictitious) age about thirty, height about 6 ft., strong athletic build, dark hair and complexion, cleanshaven; dressed in a blue suit and cap; very talkative; criminal appearance.

Te Kuiti. — 21st ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for three months in default of paying £SO 13s. fine and costs for a breach of the Licensing Act, James Kyle, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, large nose ; dressed in a blue suit and soft hat; smart appearance. Te Kuiti. —24th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying £52 18s. 6d. fine and costs for a breach of the Licensing Act, William Fitzmaurice, alias Murphy, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 9fin., spieler and labourer, native of Ireland, strong build, fresh complexion, auburn hair, hazel eyes, scar on right side of face and under chin, wrinkled face. He is supposed to be identical with offender of same name referred to in Police Gazette, 1910, page 343.

Te Kuiti. —llth instant, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month for vagrancy, Thomas Carroll Hunter, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 11 in., butcher and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, brown eyes, one front tooth gold-filled ; dressed in a dark suit and soft hat.

Gisborne. —10th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of Ruby Solomon, Frederick Bolland, age about thirty-four, height 6 ft., cook, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, dark curly hair, dark-brown eyes, mole on right cheek, right forefinger missing and also two teeth from lower jaw. fSee Police Gazette, 1915, page 161.)

Hawera. —l4th instant, on warrant for forgery and uttering, G. Evans (name probably fictitious), age about forty, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, dark hair and complexion, dark-brown moustache; wearing a dark suit. Accused forged the name of Robert Hannah to a cheque for £5 on the Bank of New Zealand, Hawera, and uttered same to Joseph Caldwell, hotelkeeper. The cheque-book from which the cheque was taken was stolen from a bedroom at the Egmont Hotel on the 14th instant and is the property of one George Mackie. It is numbered A 171613 to A 171636. Accused may be identical with a hotel thief named Stratton, and may be wearing a false moustache.

Opunake. —Since May, 1912, that he may be served with a summons for failing to comply wi h the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, Patrick Hallinan, age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 9 in., busbman and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and complexion, thin features, grey eyes, high cheek-bones, thin prominent nose, dark moustache; stooping shoulders. Woodville. —17th December, 1914, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 fine and costs for using insulting language, James McLaughlin, age thirty-five, height sft. Bin., guesser and labourer, native of New Zealand, stout strong build, fresh complexion, dark hair inclined to curl, blue eyes.

Wellington. —4th instant, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying £1 Is. costs for drunkenness, James McLaughlin, age forty-three, height 5 ft. sin., fireman and labourer, native of Scotland, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes; Faith, Hope, and Charity and clasped hands on right arm ; British coat-of-arms and sailing-ship on left arm. Wellington.— 9th instant, on warrant for omitting without lawful excuse to perform a legal duty and thereby ki.ling one James Hamblyn, John Dickson, age about twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 7 in., mental hospital attendant, supposed native of Scotland, medium build, sallow complexion, brown hair, clean-shaved ; usually dressed in dark clothes.

Wellington. —l3th instant, that he may be persuaded to return home, Thomas Charles Wood, age sixteen, height 5 ft. 7 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair hair and complexion. Portion of right middle finger missing; usually wears a light-grey knickerbocker suit, and sometimes goes without a hat. He is a bugler, and is anxious to join the New Zealand or Australian Reinforcements. A member of the Y.M.C.A. Inquiry by his mother, Jean Street. Masterton.

Wellington. —lßth instant, for breach of his probationary license, which has now been cancelled, Thomas Leonard Easton, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 7Jin., machine expert, native of New Zealand,, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, scar on left little finger. Christchurch. —loth March, 1914, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for six months in default of paying £24 3s. 2d. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Harry Petrie, age forty-six, height 5 ft. 4§in., bootmaker, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes. (part recovered), the property of Joseph Schleeman, boardinghouse-keeper, Bath Street, Thomas Williams (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, thin build, pale complexion, brown eyes ; dressed in a dark suit and grey cap; active appearance.
