LIVERPOOL, Governor XN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908,1, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following native game—viz., grey duck, teal, pukeko, and black swan —may be killed within the Ashburton Acclimatization District, comprising the County of Ashburton (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fifte-n, both days inclusive. And Ido hereby restrict the number of such native game that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twenty-five head in all. SCHEDULE Areas wherein Native Game shall not be killed. 1. All that area in the Canterbury Land District being the two small lakes known as Maori Lakes, situated in the Heron and Tripp Survey Districts, and the area included in a line running parallel to and 20 chains distant from the shores of those lakes. 2. LIVERPOOL, Governor. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following imported game —viz., cock pheasants and Californian and Australian quail—may be killed within the Auckland Acclimatization District, comprising all that area bounded towards the north-west generally by Kaipara Harbour and Otamatea County, thence towards the north-east by the sea to the south-western corner of Coromandel County, thence by Coromandel County to its south-eastern corner, thence towards the east generally by the sea to the northernmost oorner of Tauranga County, thence by Tauranga County and Rotorua County to the summit of Puwhenua Mountain, thence by a right line to the summit of Rangitoto Mountain, thence by West Taupo County and Kaitieke County to the north-eastern corner of Whangamomona County, thence towards the south by Whangamomona County to Clifton County, thence towards the west and again towards the south by Clifton County to the sea, and thence again towards the west generally by the sea to Kaipara Harbour, the place of commencement, including Great Barrier Island (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, both days inclusive; and do hereby restrict the number of cock pheasants that may be killed by any one person in any one day to twelve. SCHEDULE. Areas wherein Imported and Native Game shall not BE KILLED. 1. All that area in the County of Waitemata bounded on the north by the Wairau Creek from its mouth to the main road from Devonport to Waiwera; on the west by the said road to its junction with the Sea View Road ; on the south by that road t,o the sea ; and on the east by the sea to the point of departure. 2. All those areas at Waitakerei, Nihotapu, and Huia, in the County of Waitemata. vested in or under the control of the Auckland City Council for the purposes of waterworks, recreation, or the conservation of the native flora and fauna. 3. Little Barrier Island, Hauturu, Auckland (see New Zealand Gazette No. 104, of the 14th December, 1899, page 2266). 4. Hen and Chickens Islands. 5. All that area within a radius of three miles from the General Post-office, Auckland. 6. The Rangiriri (or Karaka) Lake, Waikato. 7. The Auckland Acclimatization Society’s hatchery and game-farm at Tapapa, near Okoroire, including a radius of a mile in all directions therefrom. 8. All that section, containing by admeasurement 141 acres, more or less, being the Hamilton Domays, including the Rotoiti or Hamilton Lake, Borough of Hamilton. 9. Presh-water Lake, known as Lake Hakanoa, near Huntly, Waikato, and an area of 5 chains in width surrounding the said lake. 10. All that part of the Waihou River between the Waiorongomai Bridge and the Mangaiti Bridge over such river. 11. Great Barrier Island County. 12. All lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or reserves for the preservation of imported or native game. And I do further notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each; and the Chief Postmaster at Christchurch is hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game. And I do further notify that the following native game viz., grey duck, spoonbill duck, pukeko, and black swan—may be killed within the above-mentioned district (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto) from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, both days inclusive. SCHEDULE. Areas wherein Imported and Native Game shall not BE KILLED. All that area in the County of Akaroa, situated in the Akaroa and Ellesmere Survey Districts, Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 1,540 acres, more or less, being the lake known as Lake Forsyth, including all roads fronting on the shores of the said lake. Also all those reserves in the said county and survey districts numbered 3186, 3187, 3185, 2903, 250, 810, 890, and 157. Also that area situated at Woodend, in the Mandeville and Rangiora Road District, and defined in notification published in Gazette No. 93, of Bth November, 1900. Also that area known as Yarr’s Lagoon, near Greenpark, and defined in Gazette No. 52, of 23rd June, 1904. Also all that area within one mile on each side of the West Coast (Christchurch-Hokitika) Road from Springfield to Dillmanstown. Also Ahuriri Lagoon. Also Horse-shoe Lake. Also Glenmark Lagoon. Also Cheviot Lagoon. Also all the River Avon and its tributaries to the tramwaybridge at New Brighton. Also lagoons at Amberley—namely, all that area, containing 74 acres, more or less, being Section No. 5664, Block XII, Grey Survey District, the said section being the property of Alfred Edward Tutton, of Amberley. And I do further notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each; and the Chief Postmaster at Gisborne is hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game. killed within the Feilding and District Acclimatization District, described in the First Schedule hereto (except in the areas mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, both days inclusive ; and do hereby restrict the number of cock pheasants that may be killed by any one person in any one day to ten, and the number of Californian quail to fifty. And I do further notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each; and the Postmasters at Feilding, Kimbolton, Apiti, Halcombe, Pohangina, Rangiwahia, and Ashhurst are hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game. All that area in the Wellington Land District bounded towards the north by the Kawhatau and Pourangaki Streams from the Rangitikei River to the summit of the Ruahine Range ; thence towards the east generally by the summit of that range to the Manawatu Gorge, and by the Manawatu River to the Raukawa Road; thence towards the south generally by that road which forms the north-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 455 and 454, Block VIII, Kairanga Survey District, to the Palmerston - Ashhurst Road ; thence by that road to Stony Creek Road ; thence by that road and the railway-line to the Oroua River ; thence by that river to Awahuri; and thence by the Awahuri- Bull’s Road to the Rangitikei River ; and towards the north -west generally by the Rangitikei River to the Kawhatau Stream aforesaid.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur Wdliam de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following imported game —viz., Californian quail and Mallard duck (English wild duck) may be killed within the Otago Acclimatization District (except with respect to Californian quail in the areas mentioned in the First Schedule hereto), comprising the Counties of Vincent, Maniototo, Waihemo, Waikouaiti, Taieri, Peninsula, Tuapeka, Bruce, Clutha, and part of the County of Southland, being all that area in the Provincial District of Otago bounded on the east and south by the ocean from Shag Point to the mouth of the Mataura River; on the west, south-west, and south by the Mataura River-and the Counties of Southland and Wallace; on the north-west by the ocean ; and on the north, north-west, and north-east by the Counties of Westland and Waitaki (excepting therefrom the County of Lake and the areas mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, both days inclusive. And I do also notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings ; and the Chief Postmaster at Dunedin and the Postmasters at Alexandra, Clyde, Cromwell, and Roxburgh are hereby authorized to sign and. issue the said licenses to kill imported game.

And I do hereby restrict the number of Californian quail that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twenty-five head in all. And I do hereby restrict the number of mallard duck that may be kilted by any one person in any one day to not more than twelve head in all. And I do hereby notify that the following native game viz., grey duck, spoonbill duck (or widgeon), teal (except black teal), and black swan —may be killed within the above-mentioned district (except in the areas mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto) from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, both days inclusive. And I do hereby restrict the number of native game that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twenty-five head in all, exclusive of black swan. The number of black swan which may be killed is not limited.

FIRST SCHEDULE. Area wherein Californian Quail shall not be killed. A straight line commencing from the north-eastern corner of Macraes Township (Section 63, Block I, Highlay) to the mouth of the Shag River; thence by the ocean to the mouth of the Tokomariro River; thence by straight line to the most southern portion of Waipori Town; thence by the western boundary of the said town, then by straight line to the southern corner of the Town of Macraes ; thence by western boundary of the said town to the northern boundary of Section 54, Block I, Highlay; thence per line to the northwestern boundary of aforesaid district to the commencingpoint.

SECOND SCHEDULE. 1. All that area in the Greenvale Survey District described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 81, of the sth October, 1899, page 1870. 2. FIRST SCHEDULE. All that area in the Wellington Land District bounded towards the north-west and north generally by the Counties of Wanganui, Waimarino, and East Taupo from the mouth of the Wangaehu River to the Rangitikei River, and the north-eastern corner of the County of Rangitikei; thence towards the east generally by the County of Hawke’s Bay and the summit of the Ruahine Range to the Feilding and District Acclimatization District, as described in the Neio Zealand Gazette No. 38, 4th May, 1899; thence towards the south-west, south-east, and north-east generally by that district and the Counties of Dannevirke, Woodville, and Weber to the sea at the mouth of the Waimata River; and thence again towards the south-east, south, and west generally by the sea to the mouth of the Wangaehu River, the place of commencement: including adjacent islands (excepting Kapiti). Station ; thence going westerly and southerly it crosses the Ruatangata Road at Ngararatunua Settlement; afterwards crossing Three-mile Bush Road near Campbell’s ; after passing through State Forest Reserves of 1,580 acres and 1,600 acres it strikes Maunu Road near Black Bridge ; crossing Otaika Road at Raumanga it passes to the south-east of the Borough of Whangaiei, and crosses Head’s Road at Reyburn’s house; after crossing Whareora Road near the caves and Kiripaka Road near the church the boundary passes through Cork’s Farm and back to starting-point; including the Borough of Whangarei and the Town District of Kamo. LIVERPOOL, Governor. ORDER IN COUNCIL. At the Government Buildings at Wellington, this twelfth day of April, 1915. Present : The Right Honourable W. F. Massey, P.C., presiding in Council. IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, as amended by the Animals Protection Amendment Act, 1910, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby suspend the operation of section ten of the said Animals Protection Amendment Act, 1910, for the period commencing on the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, and ending on the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, with respect to the species of birds indigenous to New Zealand mentioned in the Schedule hereto ; and, with the like advice and consent, doth declare that such suspension shall be subject to the provisions contained in the Warrants in respect of the shooting season in each acclimatization district.

Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington, 7th April, 1915. rpHE attention of sportsmen, game-dealers, and others is called to the following provisions of the Animals Protection Act, 1908, and the Animals Protection Amendment Act, 1910. H. D. BELL, Minister of Internal Affairs.

The Animals Protection Act, 1908. Section 36.—-No person shall kill, destroy, or shoot at any game or native game with anything but a shoulder gun, and no such gun must exceed size No. 10 at muzzle. No gun shall exceed 10 lb. in weight. Any person offending against this provision is liable to a penalty not exceeding £2O. Section 31.—N0 imported game or native game to be exported without the written consent of the Minister of Internal Affairs. Section 3. —-Season for taking or killing native and imported game (other than deer and godwits), Ist May to 31st July. Section 10. —-Fee for license to take or kill imported game (other than deer) to be £l. Section 30.—N0 imported or native game, whether chilled or otherwise, to be held in possession for a greater period than seven days after close of season.

The Animals Protection Act, 1910. Section 2. —-Use of cylinders prohibited. Section 10.—-Every person who destroys or injures or captures any bird which is indigenous to New Zealand, or who robs or destroys the nest of any such bird, is liable to a fine not exceeding £2O.
