Bin., supposed labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, full face, black hair turning grey, eyes slightly crossed; usually dressed in greenish-brown tweed suit, panama hat, and tan boots; erect gait; well spoken. Accused obtained goods to the value of £7 2s. 7d. from Dezso Roland by falsely representing that he was Dr. Pomare’s scrutineer at Tui Pa Polling-booth and for wh'oh he would receive £3O.

Ngaruawahia. —4 th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of his release upon probationary license, Edward Thomas Hughes, alias Saule, alia $ Wilson, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 9Jin., labourer, native of New Zealand, stout build, clean-shaven; dressed in a dark suit and cap. His license has been cancelled, and his arrest is desired. (See Police Gazette, 1914, page 452.)

Te Awamutu. —9th instant, for theft of a brown or black gelding, aged, about 15 hands high, hogged mane, scars on front legs, white on one hind leg, switch bang tail; a brown well-worn gig with sliding-seat, “ Spinley ” or “West, Te Awamutu,” painted on it; and a set of harness: value, £25: identifiable: the property of Finlay Bros., stableproprietors—George Funnell, alias Paul, alias Herbert Bartlett, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. sJin., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build; usually dressed in dark-tweed suit and cap. Accused hired the turn-out, stating that he was going to Puketirota. He has not returned, and it is now believed that he has disposed of it. No warrant. Napier. —Since about 4th September last, that she may be compelled to support her daughter in St. Joseph’s Industrial School, Upper Hutt, Mary Jones, jun., age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 3in., domestic, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, medium build, two hearts and wreath on right forearm. Port Awanui. —21st ultimo, on warrant for theft of a black hack gelding, five years old, about 15 hands, hogged mane, shod all round, one hock enlarged, and a saddle and bridle (saddle and bridle recovered), total value £l6, the property of George McKeddie, stable-proprietor, Te Araroa, Leslie Franks, alias R. Stewart, alias Sturd, age about thirty, height about sft. in., supposed engineer, supposed native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, prominent features, shghtly prominent upper teeth ; dressed in a shabby light-brown suit and cap ; speaks at times with American accent, and appears to be well acquainted with Dover and Kent. He may be identical with Frank Stewart, referred to in Police Gazette, 1913, page 750.

Hastings. —Since 30th October last, that a summons may be served on him for a breach of the New Zealand Railway By-laws, Lewis Nicholas, age fifty, height 5 ft. 10in., camp-cook, strong heavy build, fair hair turning grey, fresh complexion, fair moustache.

Inglewood. George Mears Payne, wife-desertion. Accused is supposed to be travelling in the Wairarapa for the A.M.P. Society under an assumed name. (See Police Gazette, 1911, page 129.)

Shannon. — Peter Neame, failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his child : It has been ascertained by the Criminal Registration Branch that accused is undergoing sentence in New South Wales for vagrancy. Blackball. —18th September last, on warrant of commitment to Greymouth Prison for one month in default of paying £5 9s. 4d. fine and costs for theft, William Ross, age twemy-eight, height 5 ft. 4 in., miner and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and com plexion, grey eyes; dressed in a grey suit and soft bat; coalmark on left wrist; slovenly appearance.

Greymouth. —27tb ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Oscar Backman, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 10in., labourer, native of Sweden, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, “ O.B.” on right forearm.
