XN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908,1, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following native game—viz,, grey duck, teal, pukeko, and black swan—may be killed within the Ashburton Acclimatization District, comprising the County of Ashburton (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, both days inclusive. And Ido hereby restrict the number of such native game that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twenty-five head in all.

SCHEDULE. Areas wherein Native Game shall not be killed. 1. All that area in the Canterbury Land Distriot being the two small lakes known as Maori Lakes, situated in the Heron and Tripp Survey Districts, and the area included in a line running parallel to and 20 chains distant from the shores of those lakes. 2. Ali lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or reserves for the preservation of imported or native game. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following imported game—viz., cock pheasants and Californian and Australian quail—may be killed within the Auckland Acclimatization Distriot, comprising the Counties of Rodney, Waitemata, Eden, Manukau, Franklin, Thames, Ohinemuri, Piako, Raglan, Waikato, Waipa, Kawhia, Awakino, Waitomo, and Ohura, and that part of each of the Counties of Matamata and West Taupo lying north of a right line extending southwesterly from the summit of Puwhenua Mountain, at the easternmost corner of Matamata County, to the summit of Rangitoto Mountain (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, to the thirty-fiist day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, both days inclusive; and do hereby restrict the number of cock pheasants that may be killed by any one person in any one day to twelve. (except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto) from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, both days inclusive; and do hereby restrict the number of such native game that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twentyfive head in all.

SCHEDULE. Areas wherein Imported and Native Game shall not BE KILLED. 1. All that area in the County of Waitemata bounded on the north by the Wairau Creek from its mouth to the main road from Devonport to Waiwera; on the west by the said road to its junction with the Sea View Eoad ; on the south by that road to the sea ; and on the east by the sea to the point of departure. 2. All those areas at Waitakerei,, Nihotapu, and Huia, in the County of Waitemata, vested in or under the control of the Auckland City Council for the purposes of waterworks, recreation, or the conservation of the native flora and fauna. 3. Little Barrier Island, Hauturu, Auckland (see New Zealand Gazette No. 104, of the 14th December, 1899, page 2266). 4. Hen and Chickens Islands. 5. All that area within a radius of three miles from the General Post-office, Auckland. 6. The Rangiriri (or Karaka) Lake, Waikato. 7. The Auckland Acclimatization Society’s hatchery and game-farm at Tapapa, near Okoroire, including a radius of a mile in all directions therefrom. 8. All that section, containing by admeasurement 141 acres, more or less, being the Hamilton Domain, including the Rotoiti or Hamilton Lake, Borough of Hamilton. 9. Fresh-water Lake, known as Lake Hakanoa, near Huntly, Waikato, and an area of 5 chains in width surrounding the said lake. 10. All that part of tho Waihou River between the Waiorongomai Bridge and the Mangaiti Bridge over such river. 11. Great Barrier Island County. 12. All lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or reserves for the preservation of imported or native game. And I do further notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each; and the Chief Postmaster at Christchurch is hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game. And I do further notify that the following native game—viz., grey duck, spoonbill duck, pukeko, and black swan—may be killed within the above-mentioned district (except in the areas mentioned in the Sohedule hereto) from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, both days inclusive. And Ido hereby restrict the number of such native game that may be killed by any one person in any one day to not more than twenty-five head in all.

SCHEDULE

Areas wherein Imported and Native Game shall not

BE KILLED. All that area in the County of Akaroa situated in the Akaroa and Ellesmere Survey Districts, Canterbury Land

District, containing by admeasurement 1,540 acres, more or less, being the lake known as Lake Forsyth, including all roads fronting on the shores of the said lake. Also all those reserves in the said county and survey districts numbered 3186, 3187, 3185, 2903, 250, 810, 890, and 157.

Also that area situated at Woodend, in the Mandeville and Rangiora Road District, and defined in notification published in Gazette No. 93, of Bfch November, 1900. Also that area known as Yarr’s Lagoon, near Greenpark, and defined in Gazette No. 52, of 23rd June, 1904.

Also all that area within one mile on each side of the West Coast (Christchurch-Hokitika) Road from Springfield to Dillmanstown.

' Also Ahuriri Lagoon. Also Horse-shoe Lake. Also Glenmark Lagoon. Also Cheviot Lagoon. Also all the River Avon and its tributaries to the tramwaybridge at New Brighton. Also lagoons at Amberley—namely, all that area, containing 74 acres, more or less, being Section No. 5664, Block XII, Grey Survey District, the said section being the property of Alfred Edward Tutton, of Amberley. Also all that area, containing 162 acres, more or less, being Section No. 7409, Block XII, Grey Survey District, the said section being the property of Frederick Busch, of Newlands, Amberley. Also mill-dam and land at Oust the property of Mr. R. Gardner.

Also small lake at Waikari, containing 3 acres, more or less, the property of Mr. H. T. Matthews. Also Blythe Swamp, situated in Stonyhurst Survey District, containing 40 acres, more or less.

Also all lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or re serves for the preservation of imported or native game.

And Ido further notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of tw*enty shillings each. All that area in the Wellington Land District bounded towards the north by the Kawhatau and Pourangaki Streams from the Rangitikei River to the summit of the Ruahine Range ; thence towards the east generally by the summit of that range to the Manawatu Gorge, and by the Manawatu River to the Raukawa Road; thence towards the south generally by that road which forms the north-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 455 and 454, Block VIII, Kai-

ranga Survey District, to the Palmerston - Ashhurst Road ; thence by that road to Stony Creek Road ; thence by that road and the railway-line to the Oroua River ; thence by that river to Awahuri; and thence by the Awahuri-Bull’s Road to the Rangitikei River ; and towards the north-west generally by the Rangitikei River to thß Kawhatau Stream aforesaid.

All that area in the Wellington Land District bounded towards the north-west and north generally by the Counties of Wanganui, Waimarino, and East Taupo from the mouth of the Wangaehu River to the Rangitikei River, and the north-eastern corner of the County of Rangitikei; thence towards the east generally by the County of Hawke’s Bay and the summit of the Ruahine Range to the Feilding and District Acclimatization District, as described in the Neiv Zealand Gazette No. 38, 4th May, 1899; thence towards the south-west, south-east, and north-east generally by that district and the Counties of Dannevirke, Woodville, and Weber to the sea at the mouth of the Waimata River ; and thence again towards the south-east, south, and west generally by the sea to the moutn of the Wangaehu River, the place of commencement: including adjacent islands (excepting Kapiti). The aforesaid area comprises the Counties of Hutt, Makara, Masterton, Featherston, Castlepoint, Wairarapa South, Pahiatua, Eketahuna, Maurioeville, Akitio, Horowhenua, Kairanga, and Rangitikei, and parts of the Counties of Manawatu, Oroua, and Kiwitea, together with the Boroughs of Carterton, Foxton, Greytown, Karori, Levin, Lower Hutt, Marton, Masterton, Onslow, Palmerston North, Pahiatua, Petone, City of Wellington, Eastbourne, Miramar, Taihape, Eketahuna, and Featherston, and the Town Districts of Hunterville, Johnsonville, Martinborough, Upper Hutt, and Mangaweka.

Section 36. —No person shall kill, destroy, or shoot at any game or native game with anything but a shoulder gun, and no such gun must exceed size No. 10 at muzzle. No gun shall exceed 10 lb. in weight. Any person offending against this provision is liable to a penalty not exceeding £2O. Section 19.—N0 person shall sell any native game, or take or kill any native game for the purpose of sale, without previously taking out the required license. Fee £2. Penalty not exceeding £lO. Section 21.—N0 sale of imported or native game shall take place prior to Ist June. If any person holds a license to sell game— -i.e., imported game—he is not liable to pay a second fee on taking out a license to sell native game ; but both licenses must be taken out if it is intended to sell both kinds of game. Section 31. —No imported game or native game to be exported without the written consent of the Minister of Internal Affairs. Section 3.—Season for taking or killing native and imported game (other than deer and godwits), Ist May to 31st July. Section 30.—N0 imported or native game, whether chilled or otherwise, to be held in possession for a greater period than seven days after close of season. The Animals Protection Act, 1910. Section 10. —Every person who destroys or injures or captures any bird which is indigenous to New Zealand, or who robs or destroys the nest of any such bird, is liable to a fine not exceeding £2O.
