PERSONS WANTED.

Dargaville. —l2th August last, on warrant of commitment to military custody for fourteen days in default of paying £3 fine and costs for a breach of the Defence Act, John or Raka Matthew, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 10in., bushman, aboriginal, active build, very dark complexion, long straight black hair ; wears no hat.

Queen’s Street Whare (Auckland). warrant for deserting the s.s. “ Hurunui,” Edward O. Jones, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., trimmer, medium build, sallow complexion, thin features, blue eyes, dark hair, clean-shaven.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). warrant for theft of £lO the property of Arnold Theodore Harris, wharf labourer and farm servant, Maketu, Harold Freeman, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 4 in., traveller and wharf labourer, dark hair and complexion, very dark eyes, pleasant manner, very active walk; usually well dressed in a blue suit and soft-felt hat; dark curled moustache. There are other charges pending.

Auckland. —29th ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “Hurunui,” John Funnell, age thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., fireman, native of England, medium build, fair hair and complexion, fair moustache.

Auckland. 29th ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Hurunui,” Thomas Martin, age thirtyone, height 5 ft. 5 in., fireman, native of England, medium build, brown hair, grey eyes, tattooed on back of each hand.

Auckland. —29th ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Hurunui,” Timothy McDougall, age twentytwo, height 5 fc. 6 in., trimmer, native of Scotland, ruddy complexion, fair hair; speaks with a broad accent.

Auckland.-- 29fch ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Hurunui,” John Taggart, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 5 in., trimmer, native of Scotland, thick-set, dark hair and complexion, bulging eyes.

Hamilton. —4th ultimo, on warrant for theft of £6 10s., the property of Philip Vernon Tnomas, labourer, Reginald Dufaur, alias John Buckley, ago eighteen, height 5 ft. Bin., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, very dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, erect gait, well educated. Has the appearance of a half-caste Maori.

Hamilton. —On or about the 22nd November last, on warrant for theft and forgery, Man (name unknown), age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 10 in., medium build, respectable appearance, clean-shaved; dressed in a darkblue suit and hard hat. Accused forged the name of O. M. Muir to a postal note for £l, which he had stolen from him and uttered same to Mr. Douglas, restaurantkeeper, who can identify him.

Otorohanga. —22nd October last, on warrant for theft of a chestnut mare, four years of age, about 15 hands, white star on forehead, branded “65” on off shoulder; a new stock saddle, large size, knee-pads, nickel mounts ; and a bridle : total value, £3O ss. Identifiable. The property of Thomas Pnilip Keating, farmer, Maihihi Norman Cowley, alias Mick Williams, age about thirty-five, height about 6ft., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sandy complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, freckled face ; usually dressed in dark clothes ; fond of drink and gambling.

Gisborne. —December last, that he may be served with a notice of fine for a breach of the Defence Act, Francis Price, age twenty, height 5 ft. 11 in., canvasser, native of New Zealand, thin build, long hair well oiled, parted in centre, pale complexion; well dressed, usually in dark suit, straw hat, and white-canvas shoes.

Gisborne. —llth June last, on Judge’s warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for three months for failing to pay £l4 ss. fine and costs for assault causing actual bodily harm, David Hughes, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. BJin., miner, native of Australia, stout build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, flat nose ; usually dressed in brown clothes ; well known on the west coast. Napier. —l7th ultimo, on two warrants of commitment to Napier Prison for forty-eight hours and seven days respectively in default of paying 12s. 6d. and £1 ss, fine and costs for drunkenness, David McGee, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 5 in., grocer and baker’s a-sistant, native of Australia, slim build, pale complexion, light-brown hair, blue grey eyes mole on right cheek, scar under chin, face covered with heat-rash ; dressed in a brownish-grey suit and cap.

Napier.— 4th ultimo, on two warrants of commitment to Napier Prison for (1) forty-eight hours in default of paying £1 ss. fine and costs for drunkenness, and (2) fourteen days m default of paying £3 9s. 6d. medical expenses and costs for helpless drunkenness, Arthur Burch, age fortyone, height 5 ft. 10 in., steward and barman, native of England, medium build, dark hair and complexion, brown eyes, “5.0.” and “A. 8.” on left forearm; usually dressed in black clothes.

Wanganui. —llth June last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his mother, William Alfred Bates, age thirtynine, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, stooping shoulders ; usually dressed in dark suit and soft hat.

Bull’s. —lßth ultimo, on warrant for theft of a Bradbury motor-bicycle, free wheel, front wheel broken, back wheel has a piece of wire attached, value £4O, the property of Ranga Ratana, Fred or Ted Gray, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, aboriginal, stout build, curly black hair. Was employed at Barton’s Circus.

Woodville. —Man (name unknown), indecent exposure : There is but little doubt that this offence was committed by Trevor or Thomas Williams, alias Wilson, &c., referred to in Police Gazette, 1913, page 510. It has been ascertained by Constable Tanner, Woodville police, chat he passed through Woodville on the 20th September last. Complainants cannot identify him, so his arrest is not desired. (See Police Gazette, 1913, page 570.)

Pahiatua. —About January, 1918, that he may be compelled to pay £l7 15s. arrears due for the maintenance of his son, an inmate of the Stoke Industrial School, Andrew Alexander Clarke, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of England, fair freckled complexion, light sandy hair, blue-grey eyes, ship on left leg, front teeth missing. Levin. —20bh November last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for three months in default of paying £22 15s. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Janies Henry Coombe, age fortyfive, height sft. 10 in., shearer and carpenter, native of England, medium build, brown hair and moustache, fresh complexion; fond of drink and billiards. Complainant, Henrietta Coombe, Levin.

Eketahuna. — Len Blancke, breach of the Defence Act: It has been ascertained that offender’s name is Baucke. (See Police Gazette, 1913, page 719.)

Petone. —Since January, 1913, that he may be compelled to comply with the terms of a maintenance order, Albert Bell Shelbourne, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, blue eyes, large nose, scar over lelt eye, cast in one eye. May be working at a flax-mill.

Wellington. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Remuera,” F. Sheldrake, age thirty-two, height sft. 7J in., fireman, native of England, slight build, fair complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, heart on left forearm, scar on right side of forehead.

Wellington. 24th November last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Thomas Augustine Glew, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., fitter, native of New Zealand, medium build, pale complexion, dark-brown hair; usually wears a claw-set diamond ring and a gold-mounted shark’s tooth on his watch-chain.

Wellington. —3oth ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Vinstra,” Karl Martelin, age twentythree, height 6 ft. 1 in., fireman, native of Finland, strong build, fair complexion, fair hair, grey eyes, clean-shaven ; speaks no English.

Wellington.—3oth ultimo, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Vinstra,” Eugen Idman, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 10in., fireman, native of Finland, strong build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes ; dressed in dark suit and cap.

Wellington. —7th instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Maisie,” George Soderburg, age thirtyfour, height sft. Sin., fireman, native of Sweden, strong build, dark complexion, hazel eyes.

Wellington. —7th instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Maisie,” J. Liajnmark, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 9 in., fireman, native of Sweden, strong build, fair complexion, grey eyes.

Wellington.—lßth ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, James Martin, age twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 9 in., milkman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair, blue eyes, pale complexion. Complainant, Dorothy Maliowes, machinist, 220 Cuba Street.

Westport. —23rd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Westport Police Gaol for fourteen days in default of paying £5 3s. fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, John Harris, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 3 in., miner and labourer, native of Wales, medium build, fair hair and complexion, grey eyes.

Greymouth. —l2th November last, on warrant of commitment to Greymouth Prison for one month in default of paying £5 3s. fine and costs for theft, Julian or John Taylor, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. sin., labourer and traveller, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh dark complexion, black hair, gold-filled teeth in upper jaw, “ True-love ” and heart on left upper arm.

Rangiora. —lßth November last, that he may be served with a notice of fine for a breach of the Licensing Act, William Leonard Campbell, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, fair hair, blue eyes ; usually dressed in grey suit and cap.

Christchurch. —6th October last, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for seven days in default of paying 15s. fine and costs for a breach of the city by-laws. Edward Carney, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 6in ; , labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and complexion.

Christchurch. —Since 11th October last, that he may be requested to sign a consent for the adoption of his child, an inmate of the Wellington Receiving Home, William Robert Duffy, age thirty-seven, height 6ft., clerk and labourer, native of New Zealand, dark hair, clean-shaven, scar on one cheek. A consumptive in poor health.

Christchurch. —2nd instant, on warrant for being an idle and disorderly person, Martha Stewart, age fifteen, height 5 ft. 3 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, fair curly hair ; dressed in a blue or pink dress worn just below the knee.

Christchurch. —l3th November last, on warrant for a breach of his prohibition order, Henry James Brown, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 8 in., carter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; addicted to drink.

Christchurch.— lsth September last, on warrant of commitment to military custody for seven days in default of paying Bs. fine and costs for a breach of the Defence Act, Albert Turner, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 4 in., stableboy, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes; dressed in light-grey suit and cap. He will probably be found at some racing-stable.

Christchurch. 4th ultimo, on warrant for theft of £43, the property of Charles Leonard Lilly, engineer, 173 Bealey Avenue, A. C. Roberts, age thirty, height sft, 9in., sewing-machine agent, representing the New Home Sewing-machine Company, of Christchurch, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion, very long black hair (cut American style); dressed in grey Norfolk suit and black slouch hat.

Oamaru.—lßth August last, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, Alfred Williams, age about twenty-four, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and fisherman, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark curly hair, clean-shaven ; usually dressed in a dark suit; a reputed pugilist. He is supposed to have gone to San Francisco. Complainant, Emma Lee, Waitaki.

Oamaru. —l9th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, George William Poulsen, age thirtythree, height 5 ft. 11 in., carpenter and joiner, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, cleanshaven, dark hair, large mouth, thick nose and lips ; sometimes wears glasses. He wa3 secretary of the Carpenters’ and Joiners’ Union, Oamaru, and is a well known labouragitator. Complainant, Annie Poulsen, Christchurch.

Dunedin. — William Henry Parker, wife-desertion : Offender is now living in London. (See Police Gazette, 1913, page 708.)

Dunedin. —Bth ultimo, for theft of a bicycle, value £8 (recovered), the property of JOHN ARTHUR PARKIN, 223 Castle Street, J. Day (name probably fictitious), age about seventeen, height 5 ft. 6 in., well built, fair complexion, dark hair, hard hands ; appeared to be employed in the engineering trade ; dressed in a Norfolk jacket with strap, short pants buckled at knee, blue shirt, and black-and-white knitted tie. No warrant.
