Auckland. — Between the 19th and 21st instant, the shop of JOHN WALKER, bird-fancier, 271 Queen Street, was broken into, and the following birds stolen: Ten white fantail pigeons, two blue fantail pigeons, two magpie pigeons, two brown tumbler pigeons, four feather - legged roller pigeons, a chequered cock dragoon pigeon, a red homer cock pigeon, two black-and-white pigeons, fifteen cock canaries, six Yorkshire canaries, and a wood-and-wire canary-cage; total value, £26 10s. 6d. Waipiro Bay. —3rd instant, the property of SAMUEL JOHN McMEEKIN, surveyor’s assistant, a ladies’ 15 ct. gold half-hoop dress ring, claw-set with three rubies and four small diamonds; value, £5. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Jim, otherwise “ Larriky,” Martin, age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 6in., labourer, native of Scandinavia, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, medium build ; dressed in blue-serge suit and Panama hat. Complainant and suspect with others were in the Waipiro Bay Hotel, and complainant passed round the ring in a case for the inspection of the company. Suspect returned the case to him closed. He replaced it in his pocket without opening it. Subsequently he found the ring was missing. Suspect endeavoured to sell a similar ring shortly afterwards.

Palmerston North. —Between 20th and 23rd instant, from the dwelling of LOUIS BARNES, chauffeur, Buffet Hotel, a blue-vicuna suit, “ Made by H. Baker, Wellington,” on tab ; a dark-tweed motor-coat, strap across back, lined with red check, cuffs on sleeves, single-breasted : total value, £9. Identifiable.

Foxton. —Between 28th and 31st ultimo, from a storeroom at the Post Office Hotel, the property of HENRY OBAN, licensee, two cases of John Walker and Son’s whisky and one case of White and McKay’s whisky; total value, £lO 16s. Suspicion is attached to Arthur McKegney, age thirty, height 5 ft. 6 in., flaxmill hand, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, upper front tooth missing ; usually dressed in dark suit and hard black hat.

Petone.— 2lst instant, from Ryan Street, the property of EDWARD LINTERN, a pair of red-painted cart-wheels and a patent axle; value, £4. Identifiable. Two men who cannot be described were seen driving towards the Hutt with the stolen property.
