INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.

Sydney. A warrant has been issued by the Water Police Bench for the arrest of a man named F. W. Figg, charged that he, being a clerk to T. F. Wiesener (Limited), did steal the sum of £35, the property of his said master, at Sydney, on the 22nd October, 1912. He is described as being about twenty-six years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high, medium build, very dark red hair, fair complexion, clean-shaven, an inveterate cigarette-smoker; generally dressed in dark clothes and light-grey travelling-cap ; left his last known address, 133 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst, on the 30th October last, accompanied by a woman (supposed wife), twenty-five years of age, tall, fair complexion, light-brown hair, slight build, good figure, attractive appearance ; generally wearing a blaok dress and large black hat. Supposed gone to Melbourne or Brisbane. The total defalcations are said to be £605, made up of Bank of England notes of the following description and denominations ; Fifty £5 notes, Nos. Brisbane.— lnquiry requested for Thomas William Beattie, age thirty-three or thirty-four, height about sft. 8 in., ruddy complexion, reddish hair, clean-shaved, blue eyes, labourer, native of County Armagh, Ireland ; dressed in navy-blue serge suit, tan boots, black bard hat. His wife states that he left Brisbane by the s.s. “ Aramac ” on the 12th ultimo, and stated his intention of coming to New Zealand in search of employment. He is an army pensioner, and prior to leaving Brisbane made application for his pension to be paid at Auckland. His wife wishes him located with a view of communioating with him, as she is now almost destitute. (P. 12/1989.)

Launceston. — James Francis Clark is charged on warrant issued on the 25th ultimo, by E. L. Hall, Esq., J.P., for that he, being a person of sufficient means, has, without reasonable cause or excuse, left his illegitimate male child, of whom Ada Powell is the mother, without means of support at Launoeston for a period of three consecutive months —to wit, from the 24th June, 1912. Description : Age twenty-six years, 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in. high, thick build, fair complexion, fair hair and moustache (may be clean-shaven) ; ridge on nose as if broken, scar on left side of face, has gold tooth right side of upper jaw, has habit of fidgeting when conversing; dresses neatly and well; was employed as a traveller for the Singer Sewing-maohine Company; left by t.s. “ Loongana ” on 27th April last for Melbourne; likely to be at Adelaide, Broken Hill, or New Zealand.
