Ponsonby. —Between the 7th and 10th instant the Pon* sonby Public School was broken into, and the following stolen, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT, two pea-rifles, 1902 model, branded “ E. D.” and “ No. 109 ” and “ 110 ” on stocks, value £1 each (identifiable); and 1,000 rounds of ammunition, value 10s.

Rotorua. —On or about 30th ultimo, from the lines of the 4th Regiment encampment at Rotorua, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT, a bay medium-draught mare, seven years old, “ M ” on near shoulder, had a white cover on, branded “Stanley” over “M.M.” on near side; a bay mare, seven years old, about 15 bands 1 in. high, recently clipped, old barbed-wire scar on one fore fetlock and scar on near hind cannon bone, had cover on with “A. R.” on each shoulder and “M. G. S., 4th M.R.” on near flank : value, about £2O each.

Wairoa. —16th April last, from the dwelling of GEORGE HESLOP, sheep-farmer, an 18 ct. gold ring, set with a diamond and pearls ; a ring, set with several emeralds ; an 18 ct. gold ring, set with pink stones and pearls ; a gold ring, set with a small diamond; an 18 ct. gold scarf-pin, opens with hinge; an 18 ct. gold necklet, large locket attached; an 18 ct. gold brooch, with cluster of diamonds in centre: value, £SO. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to William Simpson and his wife, who had been employed as a married couple on the station and left about the above date. Descriptions: First, age about thirtv-seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, butcher, and seaman, medium build, clean-shaved, fair hair, becoming bald, teeth missing on both sides of upperjaw, blue eyes, hooked nose, round face ; dressed in darkblue suit and hard black hat. Second, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., native of New Zealand, brown hair, round face, fairly stout build, grey eyes, pale complexion, false teeth, pleasant manner.

Ormondville.— PANE URUORANGI, rug, &c., stolen: On inquires made by Constable McLeod, Ormondville police, the suspect, James Horne, is no longer supposed to have committed the offence. Cheviot.— 26th ultimo, from Wester’s stable, the property of MICHAEL BARRY, labourer, a black horse, aged, about 15 hands high, small white patch on forehead, legs somewhat stiff, broken to saddle and harness, mine and tail cut short, had on a new canvas cover, “J. J. McCaskey, Saddler, Cheviot, Singlesticks,” on it; total value, £6. Identifiable.

Lyttelton. —lst instant, from the Sailor’s Home, the property of HORACE SAVILLE, a dark-brown threequarter overcoat, blue stripe running through it, brown lining, turned-up cuffs, breast-pocket on each side, “ Gardiner and C 0.,” on tab, strap with two buttons on back, seaman’s discharge-book and papers in one of the pockets ; value, £1 15s. Fairlie. —Ist instant, from the hut of ERNEST WILSON LEE, shepherd, Mount Nessing Station, a gentlemen’s nearly new fawn-coloured overcoat, “ Kaiapoi Woollen Mills ” below bottom button of coat; value, £2 10s. Suspicion attached to John Williams, age thirty three, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and seaman, medium build, fair complexion, fair moustache only ; dressed in dark-blue suit and black hard-felt hat. Ravensbourne. Between the 23rd and 30th ultimo, from Orosland’s yard, the property of EDWIN LEACH, carpenter, a gentlemen's black-enamelled free-wheel bicycle, B.S.A. fittings, Enfield frame, slightly turned-up handles, rat-trap pedals, celluloid mud-guards (back one repaired with bootlace), back-pedalling brake; value, £5.
