PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland. —Bth March last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £2 10s. fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, Theodore Paulgrain, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, oross, Union Jack, and woman on right arm, heart pieroed with dagger and girl on left arm.

Auckland.— 2lst instant, on warrant for deserting his wife, Frederick William Fox Layton, age forty-five, height sft. 7 in. or 8 in., farmer, native of England, strong build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair turning grey, hazel eyes, near-sighted and wears spectacles, brown moustache, may have beard, middle finger of right hand off at second joint, first joint of right thumb off; dresses well. Offender arrived in Lyttelton from Canada in the latter part of last year, and is said to have been employed by the Mutual Provident Company at Christchurch up to January last, and is supposed to have married a woman in the South Island

Auckland. —19th January last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £6 fine and costs for discharging firearms and three days in default of paying £1 13s. fine and costs for wilful damage, Henry Gisborne, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 7in., waiter, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, full blue eyes; wears fashionably-cut clothes.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). 6th instant, on warrant for deserting from the s ; s. “ Orari,” C. Kuhls, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 7 in., pantryman and seaman, native of Germany, speaks broken English, medium build, weight about clean-shaved, blue eyes, fresh complexion ; smart appearance ; generally wears dark suit,

Hamilton. —9th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying 16s. fine and costs for indecent language and six weeks in default of paying £5 17s. fine and costs for obscene language, Robert Scott, age thirty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, clean-shaved, round face ; very untidy appearance ; generally dressed in dark coat and trousers, no vest, and greencoloured soft-felt hat; seaman appearanoe.

Morrinsville. —On or about 25th March last, on warrant for forgery and uttering, Charles Hart, age twenty - eight, height 5 ft. 9in., labourer and jockey, native of New Zealand, slight build, about 11 st. weight, sharp angular features, blue-grey syes, fairly large nose bent a little to one side, square prominent chin, very talkative, fair hair, cleanshaved, no front upper teeth (stumps visible when he laughs), slightly bow-legged. Accused was working for G. D. Hayhurst, farmer, Tirau, and when leaving stole a blank cheque, and filled it in for £9 7s. 6d., signed it “ G. D. Hayhurst,” and cashed it at the Tirau Hotel. (See Police Gazette, 1912, page 246.) The jockey Charles Hart (see Police Gazette, 1910, page 309), who is 5 ft. 2£in. high, was arrested for this offence by the Rotorua police, but was found not to be identical with offender, who is 5 ft. 9 in. high and not 5 ft. 3 in. as reported by the Morrinsville police and inserted in Police Gazette, 1912, page 281.

Ohakune. —3oth ultimo, that a summons may be served on him for being drunk in a railway-carriage, E. Hine, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 4in., news-runner, stout build, fresh complexion, fair moustache and hair turning grey ; usually wears a grey suit and hard black hat; fond of drink. His wife is said to reside at Taihape.

Wairoa.—- 18th instant, that a summons may be served on him for assault and supplying liquor to a Native, Richard Tobin, age about twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer and roadman, supposed native of Ireland, well built, dark complexion, usually wears a small dark moustache, quiet manner, speaks with an Irish accent. He is supposed to be about Masterton.

Wanganui.— l7th instant, on warrant of commitment to Wanganui Gaol for seven days in default of paying £2 10s. fine and costs for entering licensed premises while prohibited, Charles Morgan, age thirty-seven, height sft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand,-medium build, dark complexion, clean-shaved except heavy black moustache, black hair, blue eyes, stammers slightly; usually wears dark suit and cap ; fond of drink.

Feilding. —lßth instant, on warrant for committing a grossly indecent act in a public place, Saoaon Anderson, alias German Charley, age forty, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of Germany, medium build, ruddy complexion, fair sandy hair and moustache, blue eyes; dressed in brown coat and vest, light trousers, light narrow-brimmed soft-felt hat; speaks broken English, and has lived with the Maoris about Awahuri; fond of drink.

Greymouth. —lsth instant, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £2 3s. fine and costs for playing two-up, John James Isaac Todd, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. BJin., labourer and busbman, native of Ireland, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, scar on upper lip and on right side of neck. Christchurch. —24th October last, on warrant for theft of a stallion, the property of William John Straw, value £4O, William Downing, age between thirty-five and forty, height 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in., drover and farm labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and moustache. Supposed to be about Springston or Tinwald. Offender was engaged to travel the horse, and was about Springston for some months. On the above date he sold the horse for £37 10s., and has not been seen since. He sometimes goes by the name of Anthony Downing. (See Police Gazette, 1911, page 546.)

Christchurch. —2lst instant, on warrant for failing to provide his wife, Mary Anne Harris, with adequate means of support, Alfred Harris, age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 10in., foundry hand, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, brown eyes, heavy eyebrows, fair moustache, large mole on right side of face, numerous tattoo-marks on arms, may have flower-pot and flower on left arm, and “M. R.” and “ Minnie” on right arm. He is supposed to be working about the Denniston mines. (See Police Gazette, 1912, page 282.)

Christchurch. —3oth ultimo, on warrant for theft of £lO, the property of the New Zealand Egg Essence Company, Christchurch, George Renold Fulyard, age twentyeight, height sft. 9in., engineer and commercial traveller, native of England, dark complexion, clean-shaved, about 12£ st. weight, has a peculiar twitch about his mouth when talking; dressed in dark-brown worsted suit, rather tightfitting, and cap or hard-felt hat. Offender was travelling for the above company, and received £lO from Messrs. Griffin and Smith whioh he was not authorized to do. On the 2nd instant he also obtained £lO from Ellis and Newton, Stout Street, Wellington, and is supposed to have left for Sydney on the 3rd instant.

Christchurch. —30th April last, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for three months for disobeying an order of Court to pay 15s. a week towards the maintenance of his wife, John Samuel Taylor, age twenty-six, height 6ft. 2 in., sawmill employee, native of New Zealand, stout build, dark complexion and hair, dark eyes, clean-shaved. He is supposed to be in the Marlborough or Nelson District. He is now in arrears £l2 15s,

Christchurch. obtaining by false pretences from Tamerlane Yitrivious Whitmore, upholsterer, a sewing-machine, a marble clock, a cot and mattress, bedding, a child’s chair, and a stretcher, value £l9 4s. 6d., Donald Joseph McMaster, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 6 in., stock-buyer, native of New Zealand, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. He obtained the goods by falsely representing that he was employed by Dalgety and Co. He was at Cheviot in April last buying stock for the Farmers’ Co-operative, and has been employed at Eketahuna. He is a married man, and will have two small children with him. (See Police Gazette, 1903, page 163, and 1904, page 290.)

Christchurch.— l6th ultimo, on warrant for disobeying an order of Court for the maintenance of his wife, Gordon Ross, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 9 in., sceneshifter, native of New South Wales, stout build, fair complexion, blue eyes. On the above date he was in arrears £B. He was last heard of in Auokland, where he was employed by the Marie Baines Company.

Christchurch. —2lst instant, on warrant for theft of jewellery from the dwelling of Margaret Tompkins, value £35 155., Peter Skeathman (name probably fictitious), age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., supposed labourer, slight build; dressed in dark-tweed suit. The jewellery was pledged at P. Metz’s pawn-office for £3 by the abovedescribed man.

Ch.” on tab, value £4 12s. ; two pair brown boots, size 7 and 8, value £1 each ; a pair brown saddle-tweed trousers, value 17s. 6d.; a rug, darkish-colour, with red stripes, value £1; two flannel singlets, value 4s. 6d. each; two pairs underpants, value 4s. 6d. each : total value £9 7s. 6d. : the property of Frederick Locker and others, Thomas McYene, age about twenty-three, height 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair with long fringe in front, prominent lower jaw, good set of teeth, clean-shaved; boyish appearance; dressed in green-coloured tweed suit. He is supposed to he carrying a sack swag.

Dunedin. —loth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for twenty-four hours in default of paying 10s. fine and costs for drunkenness, Daniel O’Sullivan, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 4£in., jockey and labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, darkbrown hair, dark eyes, mole on left cheek, scar on chin.

Waitahuna. —On or about 6th instant, for false pretences on Edward Pearson, hotelkeeper, Waipori, John B. Chalmers, age about twenty-eight, height about 6 ft., rabbiter, supposed native of Scotland, reddish hair, fair complexion, medium build; dressed in brown suit and soft brown hat. He was rabbiting in the district with a man named Harold McGrath, and left the district with him on the 16th instant. Offender signed and cashed at complainant’s hotel a valueless cheque on the Union Bank of Australia for £3. Other charges pending. No warrant.
