PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland.—22nd ultimo, on warrant for deserting his wife, Mary Telfer, Cross Street, Newton, James Telfer, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., cook, broad build, fair complexion, fair hair and moustache, grey eyes. Offender was employed on the s.s. “ Maheno,” and is supposed to be in Sydney.

Auckland.—l6th instant, on warrant issued by His Honour Mr. Justice Edwards for absconding from bail, John Kettles, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 7£ in., labourer, native of Scotland, stout build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, dark-grey eyes, mole on right forearm and over right eye, wart on left forearm, several small scars on left forefinger. Offender was on bail pending sentence for forgery and theft at Gisborne, and failed to present himself when required at the Supreme Court. (See Police Gazette, 1910, pages 491 and 516.)

Auckland.—23rd ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, John Fitt, age about thirty, height about sft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh com-

plexion, light-auburn hair, clean-shaved ; fond of drink ; dressed in old light-coloured suit and cap. Offender forged the signature “ Frank Fitt and Co.” to a cheque for £2 on the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, and uttered the false document to Lily M. Olesen, grocer, Epsom.

Newton. -13th instant, on warrant for false pretences, R. J. P. Ogsden (probably fictitious), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., supposed native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, cleanshaved. Offe* der obtained painters’ material valued at £1 15s. from Matthew Bennett, painter, Karangahape Road, by falsely representing that the articles were for Benjamin Leonard, 77 Great North Road.

Papakura.—3rd ultimo, on warrant for false pretence®, T. Bentley, age tbirtv-five to foity, height 5 ft. 8 in., farm hand, native of Liverpool, England, sto* ping shoulders, red nose, clean-shaved; dressed in blue-serge suit and black hard hat. Offender obtained £5 from Gavin McMurray, farmer, by falsely representing that he was employed by Alfred Kidd, Waiuku, and empowered to buy and sell and collect money on his account.

Ngaruawahia.—Bth instant, on warrant of commitment to Mount Eden Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £2 10s. fine and costs for obscene language, Thomas Carroll, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 8 in., miner, native of Ireland, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes ; fond of drink.

Ngaruawahia.—lsth instant, on warrant of commitment to Mount Eden Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £2 18s. fine and costs for obscene language, Denis Cornelius Shannon, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of Ireland, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes; fond of drink. Offender is supposed to have gone to Raglan or Kawhia.

Raetihi.—4th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Herbert Manning Whiley, age twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 7 in., coach-driver and labourer, native of Tasmania, slim build, dark complexion and hair, clean-shaved, some of upper front teeth missing; dressed in dark suit and soft-felt hat. Offender is supposed to have gone to Tasmania. Complainant, EliEa Jane Brimicombe,

Napier. —4th February last, on two warrants fcr failing to comply with a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate children, Alfred or Cockney Masters, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., racecourse-guesser, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair and moustache ; generally wears a dark suit and hard hat. He was last heard of at Auckland. Arrears to 30th January last, £l2. (See Police Gazette, 1910, pages 68 and 274.)

Hastings.—2oth April last, on warrant for deserting his wife, Evaiine J. Pownall, David Pownall, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 11 in., butcher, native of New Zealand, slim build, sallow complexion, black hair turning grey, dark eyes, thin features ; dressed in dark suit and black hard hat or cap. (See Police Gazette, 1910, pages 491 and 535.)

Mangawgka. —23rd ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, Thomas A. Baxter, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 6Jin., labourer, native of England, fresh complexion, lightbrown hair, hazel eyes, prominent nose, clean-shaved, smart appearance ; well dressed. (See Police Gazette, 1911, page 187, and Photographs of Discharged Prisoners, 1911, page 23.) Offender obtained goods valued at £1 Is. from Arthur Funston, manager for Trewby Bros., drapers, by falsely representing that he was of the firm of Baxter Bros., Palmerston North, and had contracts in hand at Mangaweka. He was last heard of at Feilding. Other charges pending.

Wellington.— 12th instant, on warrant for theft of a ladies’ dress ring (recovered), valued at £6, the property of Margaret Hamill, 9 Whittaker Street, Frederick Thomas Keeper, age forty three, height 5 ft. 6Jin., cook, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair and moustache, blue-grey eyes, scar near left eye and on left forefinger ; dressed in brown-twesd suit and black hard hat. (See Police Gazette, 1905, page 378.) He may have joined his wife, who is said to reside at Howe Street, Auckland.

Blenheim.- George Moss, alias Crockett, failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child : Offender wrote to complainant on 7th instant, and gave his address as “ The General Post Office, Sydney.” (See Police Gazette, 1911, page 273.)

Denniston. —12th instant, on warrant of commitment to Westport Police Gaol for seven days in default of paying £1 10s. fine and costs for disorderly behaviour while drunk, David Drummond, alias Dan Daley, age about thirtyfive, height 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in., sailor and collier, native of Scotland, brown hair turning grey, blue eyes, square jaws, clean-shaved ; fond of drink ; dressed in grey suit and lightgrey cap.

Greymouth. John Millar, alias John Francis O’Keefe, default of fine and costs : It has been ascertained by Detective J. J. Cassells, Wellington police, that offender is at present serving a sentence of six months for theft in Sydney. (See Police Gazette, 1911, pages 192 and 232.)

Christchurch. —29th March last, on provisional warrant under the Fugitive Offenders Act for deserting his wife, Agnes Higgins, 20 Charles Street, Prahran, Victoria, John William Higgins, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 9 m., butcher, stout build, dark complexion, dark hair and moustache turning grey, several scars under chin ; dressed in brown suit and dark-green-felt hat. He was )a-t heard of at Sockburn, Canterbury, on 24th ultimo.

Christchurch —About Ist instant, on warrant for false pretences, Cecil Herbert Jeffries and Edwin Clarke. First; Age twentv, height sft. 3£in., woodturner, native of New Zealand, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, small no-e, “ Kia Ora,” butterfly, woman, &c., on left arm; dressed in dark suit and straw bat. (See Police Gazette, 1910, page 90.) Second ; Age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, cleanshaved ; dressed in dark suit and cap. Offenders obtained £2O from Emily Denham, 27 Elgin Street, Sydenham, by falsely representing that Jeffries had entered for and was competing at the boxing-contests at Dunedin on sth instant. They are supposed to have gone to Auckland on 3rd instant.

Temuka. —3lst ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Timaru Police Gaol for forty-eight hours in default of paying 7s. 6d. costs for drunkenness, George Thompson, age fifty-eight, height 5 ft. 7 in., cook, native of Ireland, medium build, grey hair and beard, hazel eyes ; slovenly appearance ; dressed in brown suit,
