Auckland. — 6t’n ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Mount Eden Prison for seven days in default of paying £2 10s. fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, William Scott, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 7 in., seaman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, grey eyes; generally wears dark suit and greentweed cap.

Auckland.—24th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to the Inebriate Home, Rotoroa, for two years, Henry George Thomas Parker, alias Simpson, age twentyseven, height sft. 7in., journalist and clerk, native of England, auburn hair, blue eyes, thin features, long nose, clean-shaved; vagrant appearance. He obtained the above amount from the complainant to buy material to repair some furniture, but failed to purchase the cloth or to account for the money, and left the district.

Hamilton.—2Bth ultimo, on warrant for forging the name of William Laurenson to a post-office order for £2 and obtaining the money from the post-office at Hamilton, George Shaw, age about twenty, height about 5 ft. 8 in., shearer and labourer, native of New Zealand, clean-shaved, medium build, dark hair, small dark moustache just commencing to grow ; boyish appearance ; dressed in brown suit and light soft-felt hat.

Te Aroha.—2nd instant, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £5 11s. fine and costs for procuring liquor for a prohibited person, William Meek, age about forty - four, height about 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and gardener, native of England, medium build, dark sallow complexion, clean-shaved except dark moustache, long face and nose, slightly round shoulders ; usually wears dark suit and soft light-felt hat. Taumabunui. —24th ultimo, that he may be served with notice of fine for causing an obstruction in a public place, John James Meikle, age about fifty-two, height about 5 ft. 9 in., farmer, about 13 st. weight, thick-set build, side whiskers and stubby moustache, hair tinged with grey. He is well known throughout the Dominion as claiming and recently obtaining compensation from the Government.

Ormondville. —6th instant, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for seven days in default of paying £1 10s. fine and costs for being unlawfully in a hotel during closing-hours, Hector Saunderson, age twentytwo, height 6 ft. 1 in., shearer, native of New Zealand, sallow complexion, dark hair, slight build, clean-shaved, irregular teeth, large feet (walks as if they were tender) ; dressed in a dark-green-coloured tweed suit and green hat. His mother resides at Christchurch.

Dannevirke. —13th instant, on warrant for deserting his wife, Margaret Franklin, and leaving her without adequate means of support, Edward Franklin, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft, 9 in., horse-trainer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, clean-Bhaved, heavy dark eyebrows (meeting in centre), slightly bowlegged) ; usually wears dark-tweed suit and hard hat; fond of drink. He was recently in Wellington, and may be found in company with Lena McLaughlan, formerly barmaid at Palmerston North. Her parents reside in the vicinity of the Basin Reserve, Wellington.

Wellington. —2sth March, 1908, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for three months for disobeying an order of Court to pay 10s. a week for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, Frederick Paralow, age fiftyfour, height 5 ft. 7£ in., bricklayer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, heavy brown moustache and goatee. BJin., fireman, native of Ireland, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair turning grey, brown eyes, coat of arms and anchor on right arm, sailor and lass on left arm. A reward of £2 will be paid for his apprehension.

Wellington. —2sth ultimo, on warrant for deserting his wife, Carrie Philp, and leaving her without adequate means of support, Robert Morrison Douglas Philp, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 11 in., bank clerk, native of Australia, stout build, clean-shaved, dark hair, brown eyes, false teeth in front (one broken), nose slightly crooked, pigeontoed, fond of playing piano ; dresses well, generally in darktweed suit and Panama or felt hat; wears band ring with “Bob” thereon, red star trinket on chain. Offender was a clerk in the bank at Clermont, Queensland, and in December last deserted his wife and came to New Zealand, accompanied by Miss Christensen. They are supposed to have returned to Sydney.

Wellington.— l3th instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Tongariro,” John Whylock and D. Munro. First: Age thirty-five, height 5 ft. 10 in., trimmer, native of England, fair complexion, light-ginger hair, grey eyes, fair drooping moustache. Second : Age thirty - five, height 5 ft. 9in., fireman, native of Scotland, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes, face pock-pitted. A reward of £2 each will be paid for their apprehension.

Bin., carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair inclined to be curly (parted in the oentrq) ; usually wears a cap. Complainant, Annie Thorstensen.

Akaroa. —4th instant, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying 15s. fine and costs for drunkenness, Joseph Mcllroy, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, heavy dark moustache only. His brother, Hugh Mcllroy, is a well-known ex-jockey.

Christchurch. —7th ultimo, on warrant for indecently assaulting Alice Hensley, a child ten years of age, William Hamilton Ferguson Gibson, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. Christchurch. —l2th ultimo, on two warrants of commitment to Wellington Prison for one month on each in default of paying £3 11s. and £3 17s. for trespassing on the Riccarton Racecourse without being licensed as a bookmaker, J. Darcy, age thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 10 in., bookmaker, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, long dark moustache; usually wears dark suit and hard black hat.

Timaru. —Bth instant, on warrant for deserting from the s.s. “ Clan Shaw,” Robert Scott and David Downes. Bin., native of Scotland, fair hair, clean-shaved, broad chest. They may be found in the country harvesting.

Ranfurly. —lst ultimo, on warrant for obtaining £1 from Albert Miller by falsely representing that it was for James Herlihy, Robert Ward, age about twenty-four, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, slim build, large loose mouth, projecting ears, clean-shaved, scar or lump over one eye, dark hair; dressed in green-coloured suit or suit with green stripe through it, wears kerchief and half elastic-side boots; jockey appearance.

Dunedin. —7th instant, on warrant for deserting his wife, Jessie Elizabeth Betts, and leaving her without adequate means of support, Albert Edward A. Betts, age thirty, height sft. 7 in., tram-conductor and labourer, native of Melbourne, medium build, dark hair, sallow complexion, blue eyes, clean-shaved or may have a moustache; probably dressed in dark suit, green slouch hat, and tan boots.

Waitati. —Ist instant, for escaping from the Seacliff Mental Hospital, James Anstew Taylor, age forty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., 13 st. weight, well built, walks with a limp (right foot), dark complexion and hair, dark moustache only; dressed in grey-tweed suit, slouch hat, lace-up boots (one heel raised), underclothing branded with arrow enclosed in a circle. He was committed from Dunedin, and has a brother in Nelson.

Milton. —14th ultimo, on warrant for obtaining £1 2s. from Robert Robertson by means of a valueless cheque, James Eastes, age forty-eight, height 5 ft. 6f in., cycleagent, native of England, stout build, fair complexion, lightbrown hair, dark-blue eyes, clean-shaved except fair moustache ; dressed when last seen in a brown-tweed coat and vest. (See Police Gazette, 1899, page 140.) The cheque was made out on the National Bank of New Zealand, Waimate. There is no branch of the bank there. Offender is said to be well known at Waimate.

Invercargill. —l6th instant, on warrant for deserting his wife, Isabella Harriet Shea, at Invercargill, Terence Shea, age twenty - two, height 5 ft. 8 in., letter-carrier, native of New Zealand, dark hair and complexion, cleanshaved, blue eyes, thin face, pointed chin with dimple, prominent teeth, right shoulder higher than left, “ T. S. ” tattooed above wrist (probably left); usually wears a blue suit and brown cap. Photograph filed in the Inspector’s Office, Invercargill. Offender left the post-office on above date, and has not been heard of sinoe.
