PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland.—Bth ultimo, on warrant for theft of a Glad-stone-bag, containing surveyor’s books and other artioles, value £2 17s. 6d., the property of Ralph H. Jackson, surveyor, Frank Bell Evans, age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. Bin., labourer and fireman, native of Norfolk Island, medium build, slight dark moustache only; dressed in dark-brown tweed suit and Panama hat. The bag and contents were stolen from the Devonport Perry Wharf, and sold by offender to a second-hand dealer.

Auckland.—6th instant, on warrant for theft of a suit of clothes and a Waterbury watch, value £1 10s., the property of Gustaf Peterson, labourer, Patrick Daley, age forty, height 5 ft. Of in., labourer, fresh complexion, red hair, blue eyes, medium build, reddish moustache only; dressed in dirty dark suit, grey cap, white-spotted handkerchief round his neck. (See Police Gazette, 1908, page 353.) Offender pawned the clothes for 10s. on above date.

Auckland.—l4th instant, on warrant for false pretences on John Thomas Turner, clothier, &c., Auckland,

James H. McClure, alias Fraser, &c., age about thirty-five, height about 5 ft. 10 in., remittance-man, native of England, fresh complexion, clean-shaved, prominent nose ; dressed in grey suit. Probably accompanied by a woman, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., fair hair, full face and eyes; dressed in a royal-blue costume and hat to match. Both fond of drink. Offender purchased goods from complainant to the value of ss. 2d., and gave in payment a valueless cheque for £lO, drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand.

Auckland. —4th instant, that she maybe compelled to contribute towards the support of her child, an inmate of Auckland Industrial School, Julia Sweeney, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 7 in., cook, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion ; dresses well. Was last heard of at the Carpenters’ Arms Hotel, Auckland. Inquiry by the Education Department.

Onehunga. —27th ultimo, on warrant for using obscene language in a tram-car, Andrew Sims, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved ; usually dressed in dark suit; fond of drink,

Otahuhu.—2oth instant, on warrant for theft of a cheque for £5 in favour of Herbert Masters, Papatoitoi (recovered), Harry Albert Marshall, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of America, medium build, bow-legged, fresh complexion, fair bushy hair (frizzy in front), clean shaved, brown eyes, upper front teeth missing, “ Hands across the Sea ” with lighthouse and ship inside ring on upper right arm. Offender supposed identical with Harry Marshall, alias Henry Fraser Marshall. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 93.)

Cambridge.—l3th instant, on warrant for theft from Harry Vickers, farmer, Colin Jamison Duff, age thirty, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, supposed colonial, medium build, dark swarthy complexion, dark hair, dark moustache only ; usually wears dark clothes ; a member of the Salvation Army. He was employed by complainant, who gave him a £5 note to change and to keep £1 13s. due for wages. He kept the £5 note, and cleared out.

Te Karaka. —l6th March last, that a notice of fine may be served on him for £5 7s. for being found on licensed premises whilst prohibited, William Trevelyan, age fifty three, height sft. 6in., carpenter, native of England, light-brown hair, fair complexion, long fair moustache only, stoops when walking, complains of rheumatism ; fond of drink ; dressed in dark-grey suit and slouch hat.

Stratford. — Bth instant, on warrant for deserting his wife, Laura Eleanor Georgina Lambert, at Stratford, Frederick Henry Lambert, age forty-eight, height sft. 10in., baker, native of Germany, stout build, fair complexion, blue eyes, round face, flat nose, fair hair (thin on top), square shoulders, walks erect, has a Y-shaped piece out of left thumb-nail. Supposed to have gone to Sydney or Melbourne.

Hawera. —l2th instant, on warrant for theft of a gold ohain and a gold sovereign-case, value £7 10s , the property of Alexander Mitchell, farmer, Albert Scott, age about nineteen, height 5 ft. 5 in., jockey, fresh complexion, brown hair, pleasant appearance. Supposed to have gone to his parents at Riccarton. (See Police Gazette , 1909, page 163.)

Wanganui. —7oh instant, on warrant for forging and uttering a cheque for £2 Bs., B. Wilson (name supposed fictitious), age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, dark complexion, large projecting front teeth (dirty and broken); dressed in dark suit, hard black hat with broad brim ; has a small brown portmanteau and a black oil-sheet parcel with him. Supposed to have gone to Auckland. Offender stole nine blank cheques from L. Frost, billiardsaloon keeper, and forged the name of L. Frost to one for the above amount, and indorsed it 11 B. Wilson.” He lodged at the Argyle Boardinghouse under the name of Newton, and is known to follow up race-meetings. Other charges pending.

Palmerston North. deserting bis wife, Elizabeth Endert, at Palmerston North, Henry Hugo Endert, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 8 in., farm labourer and hotel porter, native of Germany, fair complexion, light ginger hair, ginger moustache only; scar on right side of upper lip (hidden by moustache), long straight nose, stout build, walks with a rolling gait; dressed when last seen in dark striped-tweed suit and green soft-felt hat. Is said to have been employed at Nelson as a day porter.

Palmerston North. compelled to pay arrears due for the maintenance of his son in the Weraroa Training Farm, John Spencer, age sixtyseven, height 5 ft. in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fair complexion, grey hair, brown eyes ; generally wears a grey-tweed suit and light soft-felt hat. He left Palmerston North in December, 1908.

Shannon. —18th ultimo, on warrant for disobeying an order of the Court to pay 2s. 6d. per week towards the maintenance of his child, an inmate of the St. Vincent de Paul Industrial School, Peter Neame, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 6f in., flax-cutter, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, fair moustache only; generally dressed in grey-tweed suit and cap. Pahiatua.— 7th instant, on warrant for obtaining the sum of 2s. from J. W. Garter by forging the name of Thomas Swan (his employer) to an order, James Thomas, age thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build, native of Auckland, brown hair, slight brown moustache only, fresh complexion; dressed in dark-tweed suit and cap. Has been a jockey. Father resides at Waihi. Offender left Pahiatua on 12th instant,, accompanied by Annie Swan. Description : Age sixteen, tall slight build, brown hair, fair complexion; dressed in blue-and-white-spotted print dress, blue-felt hat with feather.

Wellington. —l9th January last, on warrant for failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, Harry Wilson, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 10J in., hotel porter, slim build, fresh complexion, brown hair, cleanshaved; dresses well; fond of drink. Complainant, Alice Fletcher, Silverstream.

Christchurch,— 6th February last, that she may be compelled to contribute towards the maintenance of her three ohildren, inmates of the Wellington Receiving Home, Mrs.

Nevin, age thirty five, height 5 ft. 2 in. or 3 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, brown hair ; generally dressed in black costume. Her husband, Henry Nevin, committed suicide at Palmerston North last September. Inquiry by Education Department, Wellington.

Christchurch. — 13th instant, on warrant for theft of a Gladstone bag and contents as follows A Kaiapoi rug, green stripe on one side and chocolate colour on the other ; a pair of field glasses (recovered); a white shirt; a pair of sleeve-links, monogram “J.H.” thereon; a green-coloured tweed suit; a pillow ; an oval-shaped hair-brush and comb ; a flesh-coloured woollen singlet; a suit of pyjamas, grey material with gr<-en stripes; a Gillette razor, and shaving brush, &c., value £2O, the property of John Harris, boot-im-porter, James James (supposed fictitious), age forty, height 5 ft. 4in., stout build, very fair complexion, fair moustache only ; dressed in light-coloured tweed suit and hard black hat. Offender pawned the field glasses for £2 in Christchurch.

Southbridge.— loth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for twenty-four hours in default of paying 135., medical expenses when drunk, Samuel D. McDougall, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., marine engineer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, clean-shaved; generally wears dark clothes; fond of drink. Supposed to have relatives in the Wairarapa.

Timaru. —16th instant, on warrant for wife-desertion, Michael Colloty, age forty five, height 5 ft. 5 in. or 6 in., labourer, native of Ireland, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, light-brown moustache only, blue eyes; dressed in dark-grey suit and soft black-felt hat.

Invercargill. —About 22nd ultimo, on warrant for theft of £lO2 10s., the property of the National Bank of New Zealand, Riverton, Yernon Richard Hackworth, age fifty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in. or 9 in., bank-manager, slight build, fair freckled complexion, grey eyes, fair hair (thin on top of head), fair moustache only, walks smartly and holds himself erect, growth of fair hair on back of hands ; generally dressed in navy-blue clothes and woollen vest. Was last seen in Timaru on 31st ultimo.
