PERSONS WANTED.

Kawakawa.— 4th instant, thatf he may be served with a notice of fine for illegally betting, Bill Scanlon, age thirty-five, height sft. 6in,, bookmaker, stout build, ruddy complexion, light-brown hair, fair moustache only. (See Police Gazette, 1908, page 127.)

Kawakawa.— 4th instant, that he may be served with a notice of fine for illegally betting, Edward Griffin, age about twenty-five, height about 6 ft., bushman, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, fair hair, long features, small fair moustache only, shoulders slightly drooped, active athletic build. Parents reside near Whangarei.

Auckland.— 23rd ultimo, on warrant for disobeying an order of the Court to pay 10s. per week and costs, £l, towards Ihe maintenance of his wife, Richard William Polkinghorne, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 4 in., cook, native of New Zealand, medium build, black hair, hazel eyes, dark complexion, scar on back of right hand and ball of right thumb, second toe off each foot. (See Police Gazette, 1908, page 515.) Arrears to Ist ultimo, £6.

Auckland.— 17th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences on Maurice O'Connor, licensee Waverley Hotel, George Martin, age forty, height 5 ft. 6 in., flax-miller, darkbrown hair turning grey, closely cropped brown beard turning grey, laughing eyes, speaks with a foreign accent; dressed in dark suit and light coloured cap. Offender gave complainant a valueless cheque for £2 in payment for board.

Auckland. —16th February last, on warrant for theft from Henry Michael, bushman, Mokai, of a shark’s tooth, value ss. (recovered), and £1 10s. in money, Peter Wilkie, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. lljin., dealer, native of New Zealand, half-caste Maori. (See Police Gazette, 1907, page 308.) Supposed to have gone to Gisborne.

Auckland. — 26th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for fourteen days in default of paying fine and costs, £2 35., for drunkenness, John Boggs, age sixty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of Ireland, medium build, fresh complexion, grey hair, blue eyes.

Auckland. —19th ultimo, on warrant for theft from Orr Sheppard of property to the value of £lO, Ernest James McCartney, age twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 7 in., dark-brown hair, dark-brown eyes, pale complexion ; dressed in dark clothes and dark cap. The double-barrelled gun stolen has been recovered and traced to the possession of offender. (See Police Gazette, 1909, pages 113 and 131.)

Newton.— Between the 26th and 28th ultimo, on warrant for theft of carpenter’s tools, the property of Robert Barnes and William H. McEntee, carpenters, College Hill, Ponsonby, value about £3, Wilkins, age about twenty-one, height about 5 ft. sin. or 6in., darkish complexion, small dark moustache only, brown hair; dressed in blue coat, dark-tweed trousers, dark cap, soft creamcoloured shirt.

Te Awamutu. —l9th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days, in default of paying fine and costs, 135., for drunkenness, Thomas Darcy, alias Coughlan, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 6in., miner, native of Ireland, very dark hair and complexion, medium build, browui eyes; dressed in dark coat and vest, dungare e trousers, white-straw hat; addicted to drink. Napieb. contribute towards the maintenance of her child, an inmate of the Receiving Home, Wellington, Charlotte Lydia Laurenson, age about twenty-two, height 5 ft. 5 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, rather good-looking, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, inclined to be stout. Arrears due on Ist ultimo, £3 ss. Inquiry by Education Department, Wellington.

New Plymouth. —3oth November last, on warrant for failing to provide for his illegitimate child, Harold Limmer, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, clean-sbaved ; generally dressed in dark clothes. Photograph filed with warrant at Inspector’s Office, Wanganui. Complainant, Hannah Free, domestic.

Wanganui. —7th instant, on warrant for disobeying an order of Court to pay 7s. 6d. a week for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, Alfred George Watkins, age forty, height 5 ft. 9 in., coach-driver and stableman, native of New Zealand, ruddy complexion, square build, brown hair, brown moustache only ; dressed in dark suit and soft grey-felt hat. Supposed to have gone to the King-country.

Haweba.— 6th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £1 13s. Bd. for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, Ching Yen Leong, alias Ah Leong, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 2 in., native of China, fruiterer, thin active build, fair complexion, smart appearance. Wellington.— lßth ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, George Nicholls, age thirty, height 5 ft. 3 in., fireman, native of England, stout build, very dark complexion, black hair. Was formerly employed by the Union Steam Ship Company. Complainant, Rosa Hancock.

Wellington.—l6th ultimo, on warrant for disobeying an order of Court to pay ss. a week each for the maintenance of his four illegitimate children, Harvey Dundas, age about thirty-six, height about 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, ruddy complexion, bloated face, brown hair and eyes, clean-shaved except small fair moustache ; usually dresses well. Complainant, Eva Brown, with whom he has been living for the past six years. He is also wanted that a notice of fine for assaulting her may be served on him.

Chbistchubch.— Frank E. Alfrey, wanted for wifedesertion : It has been ascertained that offender left the Dominion in July, 1908, and is now residing in England. (See Police Gazette, 1908, page 184.)

Chbistchubch. —l3th instant, on warrant for disobeying an order of the Court to provide for the maintenance of his wife and family, Herbert Sauer, alias Chisnall, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 8 in., carpenter, native of Victoria, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, dark-brown eyes, clean-shaved, walks quickly; dressed in grey-check suit and hard black hat. Was recently living in Grey Street, Gisborne. Offender is also wanted on another charge. (See Police Gazette , 1908, page 145.)

Chbistchubch. —4th instant, that a distress warrant for £1 Is. in maintenance case may be executed, Leopold Blink, age thirty-five to forty, labourer and teamster, Scandinavian, strong build, fair hair and complexion, blue eyes, square chin, distinct foreign accent.

Chbistchubch.— lst instant, on warrant for disobeying an order of the Court to pay 15s. per week towards the maintenance of his wife, William James Green, age about forty, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of London, medium build, tanned complexion, dark hair, reddish moustache, brown ejes, scar over one eye, pigeon-toed, little finger on one hand crooked; generally wears dungaree trousers with leg-straps. Supposed to have gone to Methven or Rakaia under the name of Armitage. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 88.)

Temuka.— 26th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a horse, saddle, and bridle, value £ls (recovered), the property of R. J. Thistleton, stable-keeper, Joseph Sweeny, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of Australia, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, Roman

nose. (See Police Gazette, 1909, page 95.) Offender hired the horse and rode it to Makikihi, where he sold it for £3 to W. Simmons.

Dunedin.— 6th ultimo, on warrant for forgery, Man, name unknown, age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 4 in., dairy hand, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair, small fair moustache only, ruddy complexion ; dressed in dark-grey suit and cap ; wearing a silver or metal double watch-chain, with two trinkets hanging therefrom. Offender forged the name of John Westfold as an indorsement on a cheque drawn by Fraser and Macassey, and uttered it to Samuel Jacobs in payment for articles of clothing. He is probably identical with a man known as George Osmond.

Waitati. —4th instant, for escaping from Seacliff Mental Hospital, George Vincent Keys, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 7£ in., stoutisli build, square shoulders, dark complexion, black hair, short black beard and moustache; dressed in dark-tweed suit and cap and soft blue-striped shirt.

Invebcaegill.— lst January last, on warrant of commitment to Invercargill Prison for seven days in default of paying 13s. 6d., medical costs, when convicted of drunkenness, Thomas Harvey, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. in., labourer, native of New Zealand, dark hair, brown eyes, clean-shaved, round features, ruddy complexion ; dressed in dark suit and slouch hat.
