INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.

New South Wales. —lnquiry requested for William Arthur Wells, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. Sin. or 9 in., ironworker or tinsmith, native of New South Wales, medium build, fresh complexion, dark hair, light-brown moustache and side whiskers tinged with grey ; dressed in dark-tweed trousers, black- or blue-serge coat and vest, soft-felt hat. He left Sydney by the s.s. “ Maheno ” on the 10th October last for New Zealand, and told his wife he had obtained a situation there as bullock-driver. Inquiry by his wife, who has been left destitute. (09/137.)

Sydney. —A provisional warrant has been issued by the Water Police Bench, Sydney, for the arrest of Septimus Walter Smith, charged with committing fraud in Cape Colony. Offender is thirty-two years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in. high, medium build, sallow complexion, long thin face, fair hair, thin fair moustache only, speaks quietly, a journalist, a native of N.S.W. ; dressed when last seen in a grey-tweed sac suit and black hard hat; lately employed convassing for the Newtoivn Chronicle newspaper. Inverell (New South Wales).—A warrant has been issued by the Inverell Bench for the arrest of Harold Enos Whittingham, charged with the larceny as a bailee of a Model E. Speedwell bicycle, No. 17195, black frame, Dunlop tires, in good order, value £lO (identifiable), the property of George W. B. Ring, Inverell. Offender is twenty-two years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, sallow complexion, clean-shaved, dark-brown hair, smart appearance, walks quickly ; usually dressed in dark clothes and grey “Dr. Jim ” hat; a clerk. Victoria. —Inquiry requested for Bernard Egan, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in., strong build, dark hair and complexion, moustache only. He left his home at Longford, near Sale, about eight years ago, and is said to have been seen at Palmerston North about two years ago and then intended going to Hokitika. Inquiry by his mother. Tasmania. —Inquiry requested for Michael Brown, that he may be interviewed concerning the murder of Edward Tame, or Phillips, at Mount Heemskirk, Zeehan, on the 24th October, 1908. Description: Age about twenty-eight, height 6ft., a miner, native of Tasmania, stout build, brown hair, fair complexion, light-brown moustache, quiet disposition, addicted to drink. He left Zeehan on 6th November last, stating he intended going to Melbourne and then to New Zealand. (09/421.)

Malta. —lnquiry requested for Carmelo Briffa, alias David Badge, alias Cornelia, age about twenty-eight, rather tall and slight, a native of St. Julian’s Bay, Malta, half of right thumb missing. About three years ago he was employed in the Auckland tramways as conductor, and was dismissed for using obscene language, and in 1905 was fined £5 for using obscene language at Newmarket. He was seen in Auckland about eight months ago, and is now supposed to be working in some of the country districts. Inquiry by Giovanni Briffa, Malta. (08/1290.)
