Between 30th lultjlno and Bth instant, on warrant for false pretences, Ennis, age thirty-two, height 6 ft., fresh /gbmplaajqm/A clean - shaved, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, athletic build, short-sighted (wears glasses) ; wekrmg nark sac suit, hard black hat. Is identical with George Henry Ennis. (See Police Gazette, 1900, page 206.) Offender obtained certain sums, amounting to £5 10s., from Peter Reilly by falsely representing that he had £l6O to his credit in the National Bank of New Zealand, Auckland. Other charges pending.

Offender-rendered a cheque for £2 drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand at Wanganui to H. W. Scott, chemist. It was returned marked ‘ No account.” His parents reside at Dunedin. Other charges pending.

Wellington. —l6th ultimo, on warrant for deserting his children, Maurice Daniel Paulmeir, age thirty, height 5 ft. 6Jin., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair moustache ; dressed in dark clothes and hard hat. Offender forged the name of James Neave to a cheque for £2O on Bank of Australasia, Wellington, and uttered same to Horace Lloyd, jeweller. He also uttered a cheque for £l6 to Walter Lewis Jenness, jeweller, Wellington, in payment for a silver hunting keyless chronograph Arosa watch, No. 131376, and may be found wearing it. He also signed the name of Jos. Marchant to another cheque. Other charges pending.

Lyttelton. —l6th instant, on warrant for deserting the s.s. “ Gowanburn,” being a prohibited immigrant, Chow Sang, age twenty-four, height 5 ft. 5 in., ship’s steward, native of China, stout build ; was wearing clothes too large for him, has an overcoat with him : slovenly appearance. A reward of £lO will be paid for his apprehension.

Christchurch.— 7th instant, on warrant for theft of a gold neck-chain and cross, value £2 10s. 6d. (recovered), property of Mary Farrell, nurse, J. Sturmey (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 8 in. or9in., medium build, dark hair and complexion, cleanshaved ; wearing dark-blue coat and vest and hard hat.

Christchurch.— llth instant, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Ernest Yorke, age twentv-nine, height 5 ft. 11 in., clerk, native of England, slight build, rather stooped, pale complexion, fair hair, large blue eyes, ginger moustache, broad dialect; dressed in dark-grey suit and hard black felt hat. His brother resides at East Oxford, Canterbury.

Akaroa.— Ist instant, on warrant for false pretences, R. J. Williams, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 6in., slim build, fair complexion, dressed in greyish-coloured sac suit. Offender received £3 from W. H. Henning, shipping agent, for advertising space in the Christmas number of the “ Bed Funnel ” magazine by falsely representing that he was agent for the magazine. A man named H. Stewart was dismissed from the Bed Funnel Publishing Company on 11th ultimo, and is supposed to be identical with offender.

Dunedin. — 2nd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying 10s. fine for disobeying an order of the Court for the maintenance of his mother, William John Galvin, age thirty-four, height about sft. 9in., boardinghouse-keeper and fisherman, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and moustache, blue eyes; dressed in dark suit and Dr. Jim bat; fond of drink.
