[From Gazette, 1908, pages 1718, 1722, and 1723.) Reformatory Prison for the Detention of Habitual Criminals and Habitual Offenders proclaimed. (1.5.) PLUNKET, Governor. A PROCLAMATION. WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “ The Habitual Criminals and Offenders Act, 1906,” it is enacted that the Governor, may by Proclamation published in the Gazette, set apart any prison or other suitable place to be a reformatory prison for the detention of habitual criminals and habitual offenders : And whereas it is desirable to proclaim the east wing of the Prison at New Plymouth, in the Provincial District of Taranaki, to be a reformatory prison for the aforesaid purpose: Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby declare that the said building shall be a reformatory prison for the detention of habitual criminals and habitual offenders from and after the appearance of this Proclamation in the Gazette.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable William Lee, Baron Plunket, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor and Commander -in - Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twentieth day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eight. HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Constable Allan Satherley to be an Inspector of Weights and Measures under “ The Weights and Measures Act, 1903,” for the County of Horowhenua and Borough of Levin, vice Constable W. HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Constable George Carey to be Clerk of the Magistrate’s Court at Ohakune, from the 13th dav of June, 1908. JAMES McGOWAN. Licensing Officer under “ The Arms Act, 1880,” appointed. Police Department, Wellington, 16th June, 1908.
