Auckland. —23rfa ktjjcrch "last, oil -warrant of commitment, to Mount lSJn|n Gaof\for hours in default of paying Bs.. find anj costs for drunkenness, William Hugh Murray, tnirty-six, ft. 9 in., labourer, native of Zealand, medium build,- fresh complexion, dark hair, Ame eyes, \heavy brwvn moustache ; was recently working on the Main Trunk line. 2 Auckland. —6th ultimo, on Warrant fpr theft of a gold watch, chain, and locket, property of William Meldrum, tailor, value £lO, John twenty-two, height 5 ft. 4§in., farmer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow, complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes; right ring-fingef'has been injured. (See Police Gazette, 1907, pages 15, 41,141, and 410.) On the above date offender and a man named Reid sold the above articles to a cabdriver, who handed them to the police. The owner, W. Meldrum, was subsequently found in a drunken state in the street. Reid has been arrested and remanded.

Hamilton.— On or about the 11th October last, on warrant for forging and uttering a cheque for £2 13s. 9d., William Haddon, age about twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 11 in., painter and labourer, native of Scotland, dark hair, blue eyes, ruddy complexion, clean-shaved, square shoulders, well built, walks erect, very talkative ; fond of drink ; is musical, and plays the accordion well ; was in active service at the Boer War. (See Police Gazette , 1908, page 2.) Offender forged the name of John Cook Gerrard to a cheque on the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, for above amount, and uttered it to Eustace de Bambol, in payment for a half-yearly subscription of a life-insurance policy in the Colonial Mutual Life Insurance Society.

Rotorua. —2sth April last, for escaping from Waiotapu Prison Camp, John Francis Usher, age thirty-one, I—P.G.

height 5 ft. 9£in., labourer, native of England, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, two scars on forehead, British and Anferican flags, shield, eagle, emblem of Faith Hope and Charity, two vases of flowers, female bust, rose shamrock and thistle, and alligator on left forearm ; profusely tattooed on right arm and legs. Was sentenced at Auckland on 6th February, 1906, to five years on five charges of breaking and entering, and three of theft. (See Police Gazette, 1908, pages 207 and 217.) Offender is now suspected of breaking into a hut at Mamaku, Thames, and stealing therefrom about 201 b. corn-beef and some bacon ; a darkgrey saddle-tweed coat and vest, made by Hutton, American Tailoring Company, Auckland ; a pair of light lace-up boots, newly half soled, size 9, spur-marks on heels; a dark-red check rug, value £4 155., property of ALFRED TINDALL : a silver lever hunting-watch, rough edge on front case near the spring; a 15 ct. gold medal, “G. Ford, Mamaku Sports Club,” engraved thereon; a pair of blackcloth trousers, value £7, property of GEORGE FORD : a new compass ; a hollow-ground razor ; a rolled-gold watchchain, long twisted links, property of WILLIAM BATES, value £1 ss.

Taumarunui. —l4th February/iast, on, warrant of commitment to Mount Eden Gaoj f hr sevenjoays in default of paying 12s. fine and costs IPy of the by-laws, Stanley Atkins, age twfKtyXfffjht, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer and sawmill hand, medium build, fair complexion hair and moustache; dressed in dark or blue suit; smart active appearance.

The cheque was signed “«H. Willis.” charges/pending. The photograph of a well-known criminal named John Henry Withers, alias Walker, has been identified as identical with offender. Palmerston North.— Bth July last, on warrant for deserting his wife, Emily England, at Palmerston North, William Earl England, age thirty, height 5 ft. 10in., will probably be found working in a store, native of New Zealand, very fair hair and moustache, fair complexion, hazel eyes, thin build. Was last heard of at Hastings, where his father resides. He has also relatives about Inglewood.

Masterton. —2lst April last, on warrant fob failing to provide for the maintenance of kijs twoiltoatjQjAte children, Garioch Davidson, age tfnjr i£ht 5 ft. 10 in., labourer and horse-driver, native |of • Scotland, ruddy complexion, dark hair and mousxache turning grey, thick-set build, about 14 st. weight; generally dressed in dark suit; fond of drink. Is well known at Hastings, and has a brother living at the Lower Hutt.

Wellington. —llth ultimo, on warrant for assaulting Young Soo, vegetable-hawker, Walter Turner, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer and fruit-hawker, native of New Zealand, thin face and build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, scar on forehead and on left side of neck. Blenheim. —l6th April last, on warrant for theft of a bicycle, value £l7 (recovered), property of George de Emden, manager Wellington-Wairarapa Motor Company, James Shore, age about thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 2 in. or 3 in., labourer, supposed native of Ireland, clean-shaved except brown moustache ; dressed in ready-made dark-grey tweed suit and brown slouch hat. He obtained the bicycle on the hire system, and sold it to a Maori named Luke Stafford for £3 10s.

Reefton. —27th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Thomas Stevens, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 5 in. or 6 in., miner, native of Ballarat, dark complexion and hair, elean-shaved, stout build, dimples in cheeks, dark-grey eyes, medium nose, nail off one thumb (supposed right), womanish voice ; generally wears dark clothes and hard black hat.

Christchurch. —2oth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton for forty-eight hours in default of paying 13s. fine and costs for drunkenness, Frank Hodges, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 9in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, grey eyes.

Christchurch. —20th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Gaol for twenty-four hours in default of paying Bs. fine and costs for drunkenness, William Man ders, age forty-one, height 5 ft. in., bricklayer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes.

Geraldine.—-28th January last, on warrant for theft of a horse, saddle, and bridle, value £lO, property of Sarah Mulhern, hotelkeeper, Patrick Begley, age fifty-two, height sft. 4Jin., labourer, native of Ireland, fresh complexion, grey hair, blue eyes.
