Ponsonby. —Between 80th December and Ist ultimo, on warrant for theft of a gold bangle, a gold ring, and a darkgrey overcoat, value £7, property of the Rev. Francis Thomas (ring and bangle recovered), G. Wilson (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 5 in., supposed oolonial, slight build, very dark complexion, black hair, clean-shaved ; wearing dark-grey sac coat, serge trousers, and hard black hat. On the Ist ultimo offender sold the ring and bangle to Joshua Lazer, second-hand dealer, for £1 15s. Breaking and entering.

He was last heard of at Opotiki. Arrest desired.

Inglewood. 27th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences on Frederick Galgher, hotelkeeper, by means of a valueless cheque, James Kerr, age about thirty-five, height about sft. 4 in., law clerk, native of England, slight build, clean-shaved, fair fresh complexion, small growth under right eye; dressed in blue coat, fancy vest, dark-grey trousers, hard black hat, black button-boots, and darktartan tie. He gave complainant a valueless cheque for £l, and represented that he was going to join the staff of a local solicitor. Has been imposing on solicitors in Taranaki District, and may be traced through inquiry at solicitor’s offices.

Marton.— 29th ultimo, on warrant for false pretences on Elizabeth Pawson, Marton Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque, James Broome (name probably fictitious), age thirty-five to forty, height 5 ft. 6in., native of England, thin build, fair complexion, clean-shaved, fair or lightbrown hair ; dressed in shabby dark clothes and hard blackfelt hat. Offender obtained a blank cheque on Bank of New Zealand, Wanganui, from licensee of White Hart Hotel, and filled it in for £l, and cashed it with complainant.

Wellington. —lst December last, on warrant for failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, Benjamin Kirby, age twenty-one, height 5 ft. 4 in., bricklayer, thick-set build, brown hair, slightly lame through an accident to his instep. Is supposed to have gone to Sydney on 17th ultimo, accompanied by Mrs. McGregor, with whom he was living. Her father is a well-known contractor at Orange, New South Wales. Complainant, Annie Dixon. Offender forged the name of Charles Cathie to a cheque for £8 4s. on the Union Bank of Australia, Wellington, in favour of B. Easther or bearer, and presented it to George Edwin Potter, bootimporter, in payment for a pair of boots, value £1 55., receiving the balance in cash.

Wellington. —3lst .ultimo-, on warrant for deserting his wife, Elizabeth Ayling, at Wellington, William Percy Ayling, age twenty-two, height 5 ft. 5 in., hairdresser, naiive of England, fresh complexion, brown hair, brown eyes. Identical with William Percy Charles. (See Police Gazette, 1904, page 354, and 1907, page 115.) Offender has gone to Sydney, and the Wellington Benevolent Trustees have guaranteed £2O towards his extradilion-expenses.

Blenheim. —On or about 9th instant, on warrant for forging a oheque for £3 on National Bank, Blenheim, purporting it to be signed by C. Andersen, farmer, and uttering it to W. Draper, C. Andersen, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 7 in. or Bin., Norwegian, dark hair and complexion, stout build, clean-shaved except dark moustache ; dressed in dark suit and Panama hat with string. Has a light suit and cap with him. Speaks English with strong foreign accent, believed to have come to Wellington.
