MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION.

Rewards. Constables J. I. Melville, No. 854, and I. H. Matliieson, No. 1008, have been awarded £2 10s. each by the Customs Department for services in connection with the conviction of Loo Lee and Ah Que, at Arrowtown, for breaches of the Opium Prohibition Act. (07/38.) Acting-Detective Macartney, No. 905, has been awarded £7 10s. by the Customs Department for services in connection with the conviction at Auckland of W. H. Dawson, chemist, for unlawfully importing opium. (07/38.) Detective A. Cameron and Acting-Detective J. McLeod have been awarded £5 each by the Customs Department for services in connection with the conviction of Wong Que for having opium in his possession. (07/38.) Constable J. Lander, No. 921, Te Awamutu police, has been awarded £1 10s., for services in connection with the conviction of J. Moore for sly-grog selling. Constable D. C. Fraser, No. 787, has been awarded £1 10s., and Native Constable Te Motu Heta £l, for services in connection with the conviction of Tawhiri for sly-grog selling. (06/670.) Constable J. Mclntyre, No. 452, has been awarded £l, and Constables J. Baird, No. 1129, and W. Almond, No. 1286, 10s. each, for services in connection with the conviction of D. Morris for sly-grog selling at Dunedin.

Circular No. 2/07.] Official Stamps. As it is desirable to ascertain the exact expenditure for postage and telegrams for the quarter ending 31st inst., each member of the Force in charge of a station or to whom stamps are issued will make up a return on that date showing:— 1. The total value of stamps received up to the 31st March, 1907. 2. Balance on hand on that date. 3. Total value of stamps used during quarter. The returns will be forwarded to District Headquarters, and Inspectors will please forward a summary of same to this office as soon as possible. W. Dinnie, Commissioner of Police. In some instances members of the Force in charge of stations have made improvements thereto without obtaining authority, and have subsequently applied for a refund of the cost thereof! It must be distinctly understood that in future no such claims will bo entertained, and no improvements must be made or expenditure incurred without authority being first obtained.
