PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland. —2oth January last, for failing to obey terms of First Offenders’ Probation Act, Ernest Frank Fitzpatrick Williams, age thirty-two, height sft. 7fin., dark - brown hair, brown eyes, large nose. (See Police Gazette, 1903, page 145.) He was admitted to twelve months’ probation for theft, and failed to report himself. If found he should be arrested.

Auckland.— l9th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a drilling-machine (recovered), the property of Richard Waddy Oosslett, cabinetmaker, value £l, Arty Pollard, age about twenty-five, height 5 ft. 7 in., carriage-builder, colonial, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, clean shaved; dressed in blue sac suit and straw hat; he is said to have gone to Christchurch on the 19th ultimo by the s.s. “ Rotoiti.”

Auckland. compel him to maintain his children at industrial school, Arthur Walter Lewis, age forty-four, height 5 ft. 7 in., cook, native of England, swarthy complexion, large nose, clean shaved except heavy black moustache ; was last heard of at Aratapu, where he deserted from the barque “ Woosung.”

Ongarue. —l3th ultimo, on warrant for obscene language, John Denny, alias “ Maori Jack,” age twentyeight, height about 5 ft. 10 in., bushman, half-caste Maori, stutters, very strong build, clean shaved except moustache, stoops a good deal, fond of drink ; dressed in light suit.

Onehunga. —22nd ultimo, on warrant for assault with intent to commit rape on Alice Anderson, married woman, Selwyn Street, James Muir, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 7 in., sailor and labourer, medium build, thick lips, sallow complexion, brown hair, small moustache, wrinkled features ; dressed in blue-serge suit, tennis shirt, dirty grey cap. Is fond of drink. Supposed gone towards Helensville. He is complainant’s brother, and committed the offence when she was in bed sick.

Stratford. — Herbert Snell, wanted for fraud on James George Small, was at Midhurst on the 19th ultimo, and at Tariki Sports on the 25th ultimo. He is supposed to have recently returned from America. (See Police Gazette, 1902, pages 25 and 53.)

Stratford. —17th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide his illegitimate child with adequate means of support, Frederick Fletcher, age thirty, height 5 ft. 4 in. or 5 in., bricklayer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, ginger moustache only ; dressed in dark tweed sac suit and black Dr. Jim hat. Supposed to have gone towards Auckland, where his father works as a gardener. Complainant, Alice L. Buckley, Norfolk Road.

Thorndon Quay. — 28th ultimo, with a view of serving a notice of order for the maintenance of his children, Arnold Alfred Emery, age fifty, height 5 ft. 10in., ironmonger’s assistant (recently hawking ferns), native of England, medium build, dark complexion and hair, dark beard turning grey, blue eyes; usually dressed in dark clothes and cheese-cutter cap.

Hokitika.— lßth December last, on warrant for wifedesertion, Edward Augustus Hay lock, age twentyeight, height about 6ft., fair complexion, ruddy cheeks, long nose, thin face, dark-brown hair, fair moustache, top off first right finger ; generally dressed in dark fawn-coloured clothes and large grey soft-felt hat. Christchurch. —25th ultimo, on warrant for disobeying an order of Court to pay 7s. a week for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, John Haughton Byrnes, age twenty, height 5 ft. 6 in., painter, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark curly hair, dark eyes. May b 8 found harvesting. He was £4 18s. 6d. in arrears on the 23rd ultimo.

Lyttelton. —29th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide his wife with adequate means of support, Joseph Francis Virgin, age about twenty-two, height 5 ft. 8 in., seaman, native of England, stout build, fair complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, clean shaved except fair moustache, scar on top of head and on back of left hand; dressed in dark blue cloth sac suit and brown Dr. Jim hat, may be wearing tan or black-leather button-up boots; quiet manner. Waimate. —18th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the future support of his unborn illegitimate child, Archibald Mclnnes, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in., native of Australia, slight build, dark complexion and hair, dark heavy moustache; usually dressed in darktweed suit and Dr. Jim hat; has the appearance of a horsey man.

Dunedin. —11th ultimo, on warrant, for failing to provide his wife with adequate means of support, William James Simpkins, age forty-six, height about 5 ft. 9 in. or 10in., labourer, stout build, fair complexion, grey hair, lower part of left ear has been frost-bitten, scar on right cheek ; usually wears dark suit and cap ; may be found working with a threshing-mill.

Wyndham.— about 21st ultimo, on warrant for theft of an order from Walter Porter, for £l2 Bs. 3d., William Coyne, age eighteen, height 4 ft. 10in., native of Liverpool, fair complexion, rather chubby face, light-brown hair, large eyes, rolling slovenly gait; dressed in old dark-blue serge suit, blue-serge cap, white sweater, dark muffler and lace-up boots ; has been employed at flax-mills, and says he ran away from a ship at the Blulf. Theft from tent.

Invercargill. —26th ultimo, on warrant, for theft of eight shark’s teeth (recovered), the property of Frank Marisco, fisherman, value £2, Philip Ryan, age about thirty one, height about 5 ft. 10 in., half-cast Maori, strong build, long features, large nose; dressed in blue-serge suit and cap. Breaking and entering store.

Invercargill. —26th ultimo, that a summons may be served for failing to provide his wife with adequate means of support, John Trepler, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 6Jin., sawmill hand, native of New Zealand, fair complexiou, fair hair, slovenly gait, silly manner. Was last heard of at Lady Barkley, near Winton, in October last.

Invercargill. —llth ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Invercargill Gaol for twenty four hours in default of paying 17s. fine and costs for drunkenness, Charles Jolley, age seventy-five, height about 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of England, stout build, grey hair, short grey beard, very bandy legs, tottering gait; usually wears dark-tweed suit, black-felt wide-brim hat, scarf round his neck.
