Searching of Prisoners. (Circular No. 35/03.) With a view to the prevention of persons under arrest committing suicide or injuring themselves whilst confined in police cells, special attention is directed to the necessity of prisoners being carefully searched previous to their incarceration, and, in addition to their personal effects being taken possession of, articles of clothing such as belts, braces, handkerchiefs, neckerchiefs, &c., should be secured (pro tempore). Frequent visits must also be paid to them during their incarceration and recorded in duty-book.
