Horse and Cattle Stealing.

Tauranga. —George Carrick, farmer, reports stolen, on the 10th ultimo, a bay horse by Forest King, five years old, about 14Jhands high, black points, unshod, branded A on one of his hind quarters, small scar on back near the middle of saddle-mark, broken to saddle but not to harness ; value, £B. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a Maori, name unknown, supposed from Rotorua. Description : About twenty years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in. high, stout build, copper complexion, slight dark moustache ; dressed in light-brown tweed coat, trousers, and vest, and light-brown soft-felt hat. Spoke good English.

Cambridge. —Te Winika reports stolen, between the 28th ultimo and 9th instant, a bay draught gelding, aged, black points, thick black mane, white streak about 2Jin. broad down the face to point of nose, branded A on shoulder; value, £2O. Identifiable.

Waipawa. —H. Lawson, sawmiller, Te Aute, reports stolen, on the 23rd ultimo, a chestnut pony, rising three years, 14 hands high, branded K.I. on near shoulder and rump, clipped mane, small lump on nose the result of a kick, shod all round; value, £5.

Stratford. —Hugh Hocken reports stolen from a paddock, on the 10th or 11th instant, a thickset heavy draught gelding, rising four years old, about 16 hands high, very quiet, unbroken except to lead, long hair on fetlocks, black points, not shod ; value, £29 10s. Identifiable.

Gore. — John McKay (name probably fictitious) is charged on warrant with theft, on the 7th or Bth instant, of two horses, the property of Hugh McLean (recovered); value, £IOO. Description: Colonial, twenty-seven years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. in height, thickset, stout build, fair complexion, small reddish moustache, beard and whiskers of a few days’ growth, keen looking; dressed in dark suit, Dr. Jim brown hat, blue-and-white regatta shirt, no tie ; was riding a black hack 16 hands high.
