Auckland. Antonio Labrovech, sailor, reports stolen from his bunk in the forecastle of the s.s. “ Zealandia,” on the sth instant, a gentlemen’s gold hunting lever watch (No. 1781386), an 18-carat gold albert with long links attached, watch and chain well worn ; value, £7. Identifiable.

Gisborne. —W. F. Sinclair reports stolen from his stable, on the 13th or 14th instant, an English hogskin saddle, heavy plated stirrup - irons, leather girth, double-reined bridle with red-leather forehead-band, a headstall bridle with heavy polo bit; value, £B. Identifiable.

Gisborne, — Theft from Mansen Hannah : The shawl has been recovered by Acting-Detective G. Nixon from Eliza Dickerson, who purchased it from Louisa Clark, now supposed to be in Launceston, Tasmania.

Adam, No. 7, Spencer Street, reports stolen from his bicycle, near the Masonic Hotel, on the 14th instant, a brown-check waterproof cycling-cape, slightly worn; awhitelinen shirt with double cuffs ; a pair of woollen socks ; a razor, “ 1,000 ” engraved on it; and a white bone-handled shavingbrush : value, £1 7s. Pahiatua.— On the 10th or 11th instant the Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-operative Store was broken into, and the following stolen: Two white-silk handkerchiefs ; two pairs darktan button boots, sizes 7 and 8 ; a pair of black broad dampproof lace-up boots ; one or two pairs heavy nailed watertight boots with heel-plates ; a black soft-felt hat; a gentlemen’s mackintosh with cape, large red-and-blue check lining, “Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-operative Association” on ticket gummed to inside of back : value, £8 Is. 6d. Identifiable.

Wellington.— Alfred Frederick Cooper is charged on warrant with theft, between the 4th November last and Ist ultimo, of sums of money amounting to £5 10s. 4d., the moneys of William Gordon Broad, dairyman, Hanson Street. Description : Colonial, driver, about twenty-three years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, medium build, fair hair inclined to ginger, fair complexion, thin face ; dressed in dark-brown suit, a black soft hat or white-straw hat with black band. Was recently in Hospital with scarlet fever. Photograph filed in the Inspector’s office, Wellington.

Wellington.— James McGill, alias Gill, and Albert Edward Hunt are charged on warrant with theft, on the 22nd November last, from Alexander Crabbe, veterinary surgeon, Napier, of a portmanteau, patched at corners, flap over lock, containing white shirts, size 16, makers Ballantine, Christchurch, and Swan and Edgar, London; about fifteen collars, size 17, Versailles pattern; about five blue- and browncoloured shirts, about ten handkerchiefs, a grey-silk tie, a-brown-check cap, a white-handled Johnstone razor, a strop, and a white-handle d shaving brush ; value, £4 10s. Description : First—Colonial, labourer, about twenty-two years of age, 5 ft. 10 in. or 11 in. high, thin build, round shoulders, no hair on face, blind left eye, boyish appearance ; dressed in dark clothes ; correct name said to be Arthur Gill; parents reside at Timaru. Second—Colonial, bricklayer (generally works as labourer), twenty-one years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, medium build, well set, fair complexion and hair, small fair moustache ; wearing dark coat and vest, light-tweed trousers, black Alpine hat, crape on arm. Hunt received the portmanteau from the Hotel Cecil for s.s. “ Tarawera,” but took it home and divided the contents with McGill, alias Gill. They left on the 2nd instant, taking the portmanteau' and contents, and may be wearing the shirts, accompanied by a man named Miles. Hunt is also charged with wife-desertion (see this issue of Gazette).

Wellington.— Skerrett, Wylie, and Weston, solicitors, report that between the 10th and 12th instant their office in Lambton Quay was broken into, and the following stolen : A gentlemen’s brown waterproof with cape and sleeves, a greasespot under the collar and one on the left side at bottom, chain tab missing ; value, £1 10s. Identifiable.

Wellington. —John Edward Jenkinson, cycle - manufacturer, reports stolen from his shop in Customhouse Quay, on the 12th instant, a gentlemen’s Coventry bicycle, No. 82033, free wheel, black 24 in frame ; value, £ls. Identifiable.

Christchurch. —Henry Hilton Thompson, charged with theft of a bicycle, the property of Daniel Hesse, has been arrested by Constable F. C. Smith, Carterton police, on information supplied by Detectives T. Boddam and J. J. Cassells, Wellington police.

Kaiapoi.™ Frank Egan, brewer, reports that on the 2nd or 3rd instant his office and strong-room were found on fire, and the following stolen: £57 in notes; £8 in silver; a cheque, No. 101701, for £8 on the Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch, signed “M. E. Burke, p.p. P.Burke ” ; a cheque for £9 and one for £1 10s., Nos. 77292 and 77594, drawn by the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association; a crossed cheque for £2 11s., No. Y 145307, drawn by T. G. Russell on the Union Bank; a cheque, No. 210667, for £1 165., drawn by Mrs. Crosbie; and a cheque, No. 311650, drawn by W. Olabborn for £8 on the Bank of New Zealand, Kaiapoi.

Ashburton.— James Gordon Cree, farmer, reports stolen from a second-class railway-carriage, between Valetta and Ashburton, on the 6th instant, a fawn-coloured Chesterfield coat, has a small mended tear below the waist; value, £l. Identifiable.

Dunedin.— Charles William Henry, gunsmith, reports that on the 6th or 7th instant his shop was broken into, and the following stolen: About twelve dozen assorted keys, including about fourteen skeleton keys of different patterns, some blank safe-keys, and three or four cold chisels; value, £7. Skeleton keys and chisels identifiable.

Mosgiel. —John William Heward, butcher, reports stolen from his stable, between the 14th and 19th instant, a gentlemen’s nearly new pigskin saddle, horse’s head stamped underneath flap ; nickel-silver stirrup-irons, one stirrup-iron bent; also, a single-rein bridle with snaffle bit, one buckle recently repaired: value, £5 ss. 6d.

Clinton. — Edward Breeze, storekeeper, Waiwera South, reports stolen from his shop, on the 9th instant, a cash-box, containing a cheque, No. 248381, on the Bank of New Zealand, Balclutha, for £9 13s. 6d., drawn by Arthur Woods; a cheque, No. V 29841, on the Union Bank of Australia, Dunedin, for £7, drawn by W. and T. Telford ; a cheque on the Bank of New Zealand, Clinton, for £4 17s. 4d., drawn by Thomas Blacklock ; a £5 Bank of New Zealand note, a £1 note, a sovereign, and about Bs. in silver, and a cash-book and receipts: value, £2B 19s.
