Auckland.— Samuel Jennings (name supposed fictitious) is charged on warrant with false pretences on Miss Moore Jones, Ladies’ College, Remuera, on the 6th instant. Description : Supposed colonial, about forty-five or fifty years of age, about 5 ft. 4 in. high, pale sallow complexion, medium build, brown hair turning grey, aquiline nose, small face, pointed chin, broad forehead slightly lined, brown thin long moustache turning grey, quiet voice ; was wearing turneddown collar, Pandora hat, and pepper-and-salt suit. He arranged to place his daughters in the college, and gave a cheque for £lO2 165., receiving £2l 16s. change. The cheque was signed “Robert Louison, Christchurch,” and was returned marked “ Not known.”

Dannevirke. — William Fulton is charged on warrant of commitment to Napier Gaol for seven days in default of

paying £1 3s. fine and costs for drunkenness. Description: A native of Scotland, cook and hotel porter, forty years of age, 5 ft. 3 in. high, medium build, dark hair, brown eyes, slight brown moustache only. He left for Palmerston North on 4th March last.

Shannon. — Walter Burke is charged on warrant with having, on the 9th instant, obtained goods to the value of £2 from William Murdock, storekeeper, by false pretences. Description : Supposed colonial, labourer, twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, fair complexion, darkbrown hair, brown eyes, clean-shaved except small darkbrown moustache, very quiet manner, slovenly gait; dressed in dark-tweed suit and black wideawake hat; will probably have a swag wrapped in a new tent with fly ; may seek work at a flax or saw mill.

Carterton.— James Stanley is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Gaol, Wellington, for one month in default of paying 13s. fine and costs for theft. Description : Supposed colonial, a station-hand, about thirty years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, fair hair, moustache only, fair complexion, hair stands up, thick protruding lips, good teeth, stout build ; dressed in dirty grey clothes and soft brown hat; carrying a blue swag.

Carterton.— James Moran is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Gaol, Wellington, for one month in default of paying 13s. fine and costs for theft. Description : Supposed colonial, station-hand, about twentysix years of age, about 5 ft. 3 in. high, dark hair, moustache only, dark complexion, smart active appearance ; dressed in dark clothes, dark hard hat well worn ; carrying a darkcoloured swag. Petone.— William Mallinder, charged with default of fine for a breach of the railway by-laws, has paid the amount due.

Wellington.— J. C. Johnson, alias F. E. Raston, is charged on warrant with having, on or about the 10th instant, obtained from Michael Joseph Hodgins, hotelkeeper, Lower Hutt, the sum of £1 19s. by means of a valueless cheque. Description : Supposed native of England, hotelmanager and book-keeper, fifty-five years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in. high, medium build, ruddy complexion, dark hair turning grey parted in centre, dark moustache only turning grey; dressed in blue-vicuna sac suit, hard black-felt hat; stoops when walking; boots well worn; fond of drink; was recently book-keeper at the Rutland Hotel, Wanganui.

Freeman’s Bay (Auckland). John McLeod, basketmaker, reports stolen, from his dwelling in Cook Street, on the 11th instant, a keyless open-faced nickel-plated watch, value 10s. ; three gold shirt-studs, two of them are ship’s wheel pattern with a diamond in centre, the third set with a bloodstone in centre, value £2 10s. Identifiable.

Dargaville. —John Grego, gum-digger reports that on the 13th instant his whare was broken into, and the following stolen: A boot-trunk containing a black-cloth sac suit (size 5), two woollen undershirts, a pair of woollen drawers, a brown-felt hat, a white dress shirt, a Post-office Savingsbank book in name of John Grego, a passport, and an Austrian drill-book ; value, £4 17s, Identifiable.

Gisborne. —Bertram Henderson, stable keeper, reports stolen from his bedroom in the Whatatutu Hotel, on the sth November last, a silver hunting Waltham watch (No. 5187), a German gold curb chain, and a 9-carat gold signet ring with heart-shaped stone ; value, £5.

Napier. — John Arnott Miller, shepherd, care of J. H. Smith, runholder, Dannevirke, reports stolen from his bedroom in the City Buffet Hotel, on the 31st ultimo, a blackleather pocket-book, containing three £5 notes, five £1 notes (supposed on the Bank of New Zealand), a discharge from the Fifth New Zealand Contingent, and a receipt for a saddle and bridle ; value, £2O ss. 6d.

Feilding. —John Horn, jun., farmer, reports stolen from his dwelling at Halcombe, on the 21st ultimo, a ladies’ American lever gold keyless watch, value £lO ; a gold bracelet with hinge, padlock attached, value £4 ; a pair of fieldglasses with leather partly worn off, value £2; a gold ring set with diamond and two rubies, value £7 ; a gentlemen’s gold ring seo with diamond, value £3 ; a brown-leather pocketbook, value 2s. 6d.; a white-silk handkerchief, value 10s.; a blue-black waterproof coat with sleeves and cape, red and blue squares on inside, value £3 ; a pair of nickel-silver spurs, value 7s. 6d. ; a washed-gold muff-chain, value 10s.; a yellow-handled and a black-handled Hollis hollow-ground razor; and about £2 13s. in silver. Identifiable, except money.

Rongotea. —Robert Brown, labourer, reports stolen from his whare, on the 18th instant, a silver hunting lever watch, supposed No. 29184, maker’s name on dial; a silver watchchain with silver - mounted greenstone attached : value, £5 10s.

Upper Hutt. Charles Richard Haybittle, farmer, reports stolen from his dwelling at Silverstream, on the 22nd instant, a very old gold verge watch, gold hands, two threads of fine gold and one of platinum round the edge of face in fancy work, ring of watch chased, value £BO ; a half-hoop diamond and ruby engagement-ring, value £l3; an imitation-pearl necklace tied with white ribbon, and a bottle of brandy, value 12s. 6d. Suspicion attached to a swagger, about twenty-six years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in. high, medium build, fair complexion, fair moustache only ; dressed in light-grey tweed suit, dark cap, no vest. May have been a fireman or trimmer, as a parcel containing dungarees and a pair of boots with the soles burned were found outside the house.

Wellington. —Leslie Rolfe, driver, reports stolen from his bedroom in Curtis’s boardinghouse, on the 3rd instant, a nearly new gold keyless hunting-watch, supposed No. 1895, dog and flowers engraved on back; a ladies’ double silver chain with twisted links, a tassel and silver sovereign-case attached ; a white - silk handkerchief, flowers and L.R. thereon; and a white-silk handkerchief with red border: value, £5. Mount Cook (Wellington). —James Webb and John Webb report stolen from their dwelling in Tory Street, on the 24th instant, a gold watch-chain with plain links joined with gold threads (value £10), six small split links, and £5 10s. in gold, the property of James Webb ; ten sovereigns and a small leather purse, the property of John Webb. Chain, purse, and one sovereign identifiable.

Blenheim. —Alfred Reynolds, flaxmill-hand, reports stolen from his hut at Tua Marina, on the 24th or 25th ultimo, a gentlemen’s silver English lever hunting-watch, No. 448976 ; value, £4. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Leonard Ba,rton. Description : A flaxmill-hand, about thirty years of age, 5 ft. Bin. high, medium build, fair moustache only,

Nelson.— Gustavus M. Mathieson, hotelkeeper, reports stolen from his hotel in Bridge Street, between the 25th ultimo and 9th instant, a ladies’ pepper-and-salt walkingcoat ; a small gold brooch made out of a Masonic stud, J.K. on back ; and a gold chain bangle with padlock: value, £9 15s. Coat and brooch identifiable. Suspicion attached to Mary Ready. Description: Cook, forty-six years of age, medium height and build, dark hair and complexion, very talkative, fond of drink, slovenly appearance. Left by s.s. “ Mapourika ” for Wellington on the 27th ultimo.

Seddonville. - James Gladstone, alias Stewart, alias Holt, alias De Wet, alias William Gilford, is charged on warrant with the theft, on the 11th instant, of money and clothes, the property of Charles Matthews ; value £lO 9s. 6d. Description : Supposed English, twenty-three years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, medium build, fair hair and complexion, very slight fair moustache only, pimples on face; takes very long strides when walking; dressed in brownish-tweed sac suit and very light brown or black Dr. Jim hat.

Dunedin.— Garl Jrivel, alias Jriebl, alias Glandor, is charged with theft, on the 6th instant, of a banjo and case (recovered), the property of Alfred Brown, hotelkeeper, Pelichet Bay; value, £ls. Description : A native of Germany, seaman and hotel porter, forty-eight years of age, looks younger, 5 ft. 8 in. high, fair complexion, fair moustache only, light-brown hair, blue eyes, large nose, woman with flag on right arm. Warrant to issue.
