Auckland.— Frederick Watson, seaman, No. 57, Durham Street, reports stolen from the schooner “Clematis,” on the 4th or sth ultimo, a metal watch and chain, a pair of vicuna trousers, and a new pair of American boots; value, £2 6s. 6d. Identifiable.

Avondale (Auckland). — Thomas Colin Thwaites, settler, reports stolen from his storeroom, on the 10th ultimo, a gentlemen’s colonial-made saddle, with new stirrup-leathers (irons branded “ Solid nickel”), two white-web girths (stitched to shorten them, two of the buckles recently sewn on) ; a double-rein bridle, nickel buckles, snaffle bit (branded “ Solid nickel ”), one side of the reins have bite-marks on them ; a heavy martingale, with five ivory rings attached: value, £5 ss. Identifiable.

Avondale (Auckland). — Charles Holloway’s shop broken into: Edward Richard Black, alias Wilson, has been arrested for this offence by Detective W. Maddern, Auckland police, and sentenced to two years’ labour. Property recovered.

Paeroa. —Searle Bros., bootmakers, report that on the 16th ultimo the plate-glass windows of their shop were broken (value, £4O), and the following stolen; A pair of gentlemen’s tan canvas shoes, a pair of gentlemen’s tan glace-kid balmorals, a pair of youths’ chrome shooters, a pair of box-calf balmorals, a pair of tan willow-calf balmorals, two pairs of French-calf balmorals, and about eighteen gentlemen’s odd boots, various sizes and makes; value, about £2O.

Karangahake.— H. J. Dougherty reports stolen from a seat opposite the Waikino Hotel, on the 28th October last, a fawn-coloured heavy waterproof overcoat, deep cape, very large bone buttons (one of them broken), one pocket torn at corner, chain tab broken ; value, £7. Identifiable.

Mangaweka. President Rhodes, bootmaker, reports stolen from his shop, on the Bth ultimo, a Geneva openfaced watch, No. 13338, ladies’ silver chain attached; value, £1 15s. Identifiable.

Martinborough. William Lionel Dickson is charged on warrant with theft, on the 15th ultimo, of a cheque for £2 13s. 9d., the property of Joseph Henry Huria. Description: Supposed native of Dunedin, labourer and shearer, twenty-six years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, strong build, fair complexion, clean-shaved, light-brown hair, grey eyes; supposed dressed in light-brown tweed suit and black-and-white check cap ; fond of drink ; supposed to have come south, and is said to have a brother employed on the

Canterbury Times. He cashed the cheque at Card’s Hotel on above date, and has not been seen since.

Upper Hutt.— Frederick Luers, manager, Burt’s Sawmill, Whiteman’s Valley, reports stolen, between the Ist and 31st October last, a set of shaft-harness, a set of leadingharness, a set of five-horse reins, a cart saddle with heartshaped silver mountings, about ninety sacks branded W.B. over U.H., a quantity of cooking utensils, and three sets of stocks and seven sets of dies ; value, £l9. Identifiable.

Wellington. —Ernest Proud, manager, Ford and Co., jewellers, reports stolen from the passage of the National Mutual Buildings, Customhouse Quay, on the 28th ultimo, a gentlemen’s American Comet free-wheel bicycle, No. 12801, wooden rims, nickel head, 22 in. frame, low handles ; value, £ls. Identifiable.

Wellington. — Captain Richard Seddon reports stolen from the s.s. “ Tutanekai ” at Onehunga Wharf, or during the passage to Wellington on the 27th October last, a blacksilk waterproof coat with black-velvet collar, black buttons, no cape, very light material, elastic bands inside of cuffs, left cuff slightly torn ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Wellington. —Lieutenant William Arthur Morgan, Inglewood, Taranaki, reports stolen from his cabin in the s.s. “Tutanekai” at Onehunga, on the 27th or 28th October last, a pair of No. 8 field-glasses, “Morgan” scratched on them, covered with black leather, a small black strap attached ; value, £l3 13s. Christchurch. —Karl Grieshabert, watchmaker, reports stolen from his shop, between the Ist and 18th ultimo, a ladies’ 18-carat gold half-hoop ring, set with three sapphires and two diamonds ; value, £B. Identifiable.

Christchurch. — Stanley Archibald Daley (known as Archie Daley) is charged on warrant with theft of a bicycle on the 6th ultimo (recovered), the property of William Woodhouse ; value, £lB. Description; Colonial, groom, about twenty-six years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. or 10 in. high, stout build, fair complexion, clean-shaved, light-brown hair ; dressed in blue-vicuna or grey suit, with grey cap. He sold the bicycle at Timaru, and is supposed to have gone towards Dunedin.

Christchurch. William Moor, coachbuilder, reports stolen from his yard in Victoria Street, on the 22nd or 23rd October last, a light-coloured canvas carriage-cover, hand made, 12 ft. by 12 ft., eyelet-holes in the sides with small pieces of rope attached ; value, £3. Identifiable.

Fahey, and traced to the possession of Duncan Henry Atchison McGregor, alias Palmer, alias Webb, &c., who was sentenced for this offence to three months in addition to the sentence he is now undergoing for horse-stealing.

Christchurch. —Maurice E. Wood, telegraph operator, reports stolen from the back of the General Post-office, on the 2nd June last, a gentlemen’s Rudge - Whitworth bicycle, No. 142760, white-enamelled hand-grips, black tips, Brooks saddle (broken); value, £lB. Identifiable.

William Terrington Popple, Road Board Clerk, reports stolen from the counter of the post-office, on the 10th October last, a pocket-book, containing a cheque No. 26987, for £1 10s. on the Bank of Australasia, Christchurch, signed by James Langdale and A. H. Burkett; a cheque, No. 19759, for £5 3s. 6d. on the Bank of Australasia, signed by George Rutherford and Frederick Bull; a sovereign, a half-sovereign, and a pocket-book, with “ W. T. Popple ” on inside,

Roslyn (Dunedin). —On the 15th or 16th ultimo the Dunedin and Kaikorai Tram Company’s office was broken into, and a conductor’s hag, containing about £4 in silver and coppers, stolen. An attempt was made to hurst open the safe with an explosive.

Nightcaps. —Nicholas Nicholls, shepherd, reports stolen from a loosebox at Wood’s Railway Hotel, Otautau, on the 23rd September last, a black rough collie dog, about two years old, answers to the name of Zillah ; had a Geraldine and Mackenzie County collar on, with chain attached. The dog is a well-known performer, and has won prizes at dog-trials at Balfour and in the Mackenzie County ; value, £ls. Identifiable.
