On the 2nd ultimo the skull, arms, and hand of a man were found on the sea-beach near Maunganui Bluff, Dargaville, supposed to be the remains of an Austrian named Marko Separovicb, who was drowned on the 25th July last when crossing the Waipoua River, near Kawerua. (No. 697.)

On the 3rd ultimo part of the skeleton of a man, about thirtyfive years of age, about 5 ft. 4 in. high, was found in Grove Bush. There was a hole in the skull as if caused by a bullet, and at the inquest, held at Wintononthe 15th ultimo, a verdict was returned “ That death was caused by a bullet, but there is nothing to show whether self-inflioted or otherwise.” There was nothing by which to identify the deceased. blades, a file, and corkscrew; a leather envelope, a small note-book, two small purses, one of which contained a halfsovereign, a two-shilling piece, a shilling, two pennies, and a silver Ceylon ten-cent piece dated 1897, and a small leather pouch with strap for wearing round the waist. The clothing worn by deceased was a tweed sac suit, small-check pattern, lace-up boots, half soled. The second upper right molar has been stopped with amalgam, three top teeth are missing. An inquest was held on the 22nd ultimo, and the jury returned a verdict, “That death was caused by strangulation, self-inflicted, about the year 1898.”
